Jerusalem - Israel’s capacity to keep tabs on Iran was boosted Wednesday night after the successful launch into space of its 10th and most advanced satellite to date. The satellite, which Israelis call Ofek 10 (Ofek meaning dawn in Hebrew), entered into orbit around the Earth in the early hours of Thursday morning and immediately started transmitting signals back, according to information shared by Israel’s Ministry of Defense and Israel Aerospace Industries. (Snip) The Ofek 10 will be used for military purposes, Israel´s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has said, including monitoring Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons development

Comments:
It stands to reason that if they are watching Iran, so are they the Gaza Strip. Well played, Israel.

Hobby Lobby Is Already Creating
New Religious Demands on Obama
Atlantic Magazine, by Molly Ball    Original Article

This week, in the Hobby Lobby case, the Supreme Court ruled that a religious employer could not be required to provide employees with certain types of contraception. That decision is beginning to reverberate: A group of faith leaders is urging the Obama administration to include a religious exemption in a forthcoming LGBT anti-discrimination action. Their call, in a letter sent to the White House Tuesday, attempts to capitalize on the Supreme Court case by arguing that it shows the administration must show more deference to the prerogatives of religion. "We are asking that an extension of protection for one group not come at the expense

Los Angeles - It’s not just a people problem: Growing rates of obesity in pets have led to the emergence of fat farms offering ‘‘pawlates,’’ ‘´doga’’ and ‘‘Barko Polo,’’ doggie versions of Pilates, yoga and Marco Polo to help slim down man’s best friend. In the U.S., 53 percent of dogs are overweight or obese, up from 45 percent four years ago. In cats, the figure is almost 58 percent, said Dr. Ernie Ward, a veterinarian and founder of the Association of Pet Obesity Prevention in Calabash, North Carolina. Overweight pets can suffer diabetes, joint problems, heart disease and decreased life expectancy, just like obese people, he said.

An arrest was made in London on Wednesday in connection with suspected terrorism in Syria, the Metropolitan Police Service said. Police arrested a 32-year-old man at a home in west London. The suspect has not been identified, but police said he faces charges including fraud by false representation and arranging funding for the purpose of terrorism. The arrest comes during an ongoing investigation into "suspected terrorist activity in Syria," police said. Searches at 12 locations in and around London are being conducted in connection with the arrest, police said. Western authorities have expressed concerns about the flow of money and

A Burger King in San Francisco has taken its support of LGBT pride week to a new level and released a special sandwich — the Proud Whopper. Burger King is already on record as supporting gay marriage, issuing in the past a “Be Your Way” slogan that played off its popular “Have it Your Way” message. But the specialty sandwich is a new thumbs-up campaign for gays, Time reported. The Proud Whopper is no different in taste, texture or ingredient than the regular Whopper — the message the chain is hoping to convey. The Proud Whopper wrapper reads, once opened, “We are all the same inside.”

Bullies hiding behind computer screens now have the First Amendment to protect them. The state’s highest court on Tuesday struck down an Albany County law that criminalized cyberbullying, crimping government efforts to crack down on electronic harassment. In a 5-2 ruling, the Court of Appeals ruled that the local law was “overbroad” and trampled free-speech rights of online tormentors. “Although the First Amendment may not give defendant the right to engage in these activities, the text of Albany County’s law envelops far more than acts of cyberbullying against children by criminalizing a variety of constitutionally protected modes of

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday that President Barack Obama must visit the Texas southern border to see the immigration crisis for himself. “If he doesn’t come to the border, I think it’s a real reflection of his lack of concern of what’s really going on there,” Perry said on FOX News’ “FOX and Friends,” noting that Obama is planning to be in Texas next week for fundraisers. “If the President of the United States is really serious about securing that border, we can show him how to do that,” Perry added. “But I haven’t even had a phone call from this president.” Obama is scheduled to be in Austin and Dallas on Wednesday and Thursday for

White House advisers lays out scenarios

President Obama promises that the U.S. troops he’s sending to Iraq won’t get into another shooting war, but a top White House adviser has listed several scenarios that would prompt direct military action against Islamic militants. Ben Rhodes, a deputy national security adviser to the president, said the U.S. “has a role to play in a number of different ways” that could result in military engagements in Iraq. The government in Baghdad is fighting militants loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), and Mr. Obama has sent nearly 500 U.S. troops to protect the U.S. embassy and the airport in Baghdad, and to serve as military advisers.

Omar al-Shishani, one of hundreds of Chechens who have been among the toughest jihadi fighters in Syria, has emerged as the face of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, appearing frequently in its online videos — in contrast to the group´s Iraqi leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who remains deep in hiding and has hardly ever been photographed. It is not yet clear why two Iraqi army divisions entrusted with the defence of Mosul collapsed so suddenly and so abjectly two weeks ago. But a likely key factor in the astonishing success of the Isis invasion force, which apparently numbered less than 2000 men, was the failure of the US-led Coalition to provide Iraq with even a primitive air force. (Snip) The Isis fighters who came in from Syria did so by road, in pickup trucks, in a long convoy. Although some Isis trucks carried light anti-aircraft guns, their entire force was extremely vulnerable. This past week, Fox News, Megyn Kelly, and Dinesh D’Souza gave a platform to an entity that hates America and our way of life. Seems the prospect of smokin’ out a snake like Bill Ayers was too good to pass up. Getting an exclusive one-on-one with a crazy, violent communist with a small c was quite a coup for Kelly and D’Souza...or was it? Since lying and deceit generally benefit the liar, we have to ask, ”What was in it for Bill Ayers?” A mea culpa for past crimes? Hardly. After listening to Ayers, we must conclude: once a psychopath, always a psychopath.

A crowd of 300 angry protestors forced three buses carrying 140 undocumented migrant children and their parents to turn around in Murrieta, California, on Tuesday after they blocked the road. The dramatic confrontation between the flag waving protestors and the Homeland Security buses came one day after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to resist the federal government´s plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Holding up banners that said ´Return to Sender´ and suggesting the children should be sent to the White House instead, the irate protestors succeeded when the buses

President Obama’s displeasure with gridlock in Washington — and with the Republicans he blames for it — has been rising for months. This week it has boiled over. From the Rose Garden to the Cabinet Room to near the Key Bridge in Georgetown, the president has signaled more than mere annoyance at the state of affairs at the halfway point of this year. His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt. The White House is not planning to reassess its strategy for handling thousands of unaccompanied minors streaming across the border amid mass protests. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said he had not spoken to President Obama about protests in California that blocked buses full of immigrant detainees from reaching a processing station. But Earnest said there was no expectation of changing strategies to deal with the flood of minors "at this point.” "At this point, what we´re focused on is making sure that we can ramp up the resources that are necessary to meet this growing need," Earnest said. Higher education is no longer just for kids in the top quarter or the top half of the class. College is for everyone," First lady Michelle Obama told a gathering of school counselors in Florida on Tuesday. "Every student in this country needs some higher education, whether that´s two-year degree, a four-year degree, or professional training of some sort." Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. They, in turn, made her an honorary school counselor.
