Neither snow nor rain can keep these couriers from the completion of their appointed rounds — even if they aren’t too swift. A Brooklyn woman got the surprise of her life this week when three letters mailed to her 45 years ago finally arrived. "I´ve been crying since Wednesday," Susan Heifetz told the Daily News. "I´m flipping out. This is not normal to get three cards from 1969." The red-letter week consisted of a message from a young man she briefly dated who was serving in Vietnam as well as two birthday cards for her 19th birthday: one from her

Post Offices in major cities have piles of mail that wait to be dealt with. If mail falls in an elevator pit, gets stuck behind a sorting machine, or just gets left in the basement, it can be years before it is found.

The Post Office really is much worse than you imagine. If the general public saw what really happens...

As the investigation into the Bourbon Street shooting continued Tuesday, police confirmed that six of the victims were visitors from out of state, including a woman from Australia. NOPD spokeswoman Hilal Williams sent out a press release shortly before 2:30 p.m., which included a change in what authorities had previously said - that six of the victims were women and four were men. But victim nr. 7, who police previously identified as a woman, is in fact a 22-year-old New Orleans man, who was treated and has since been released from the hospital. With its finances in the red and its role sharply curtailed, questions are being raised about the long-term future of the agency that put New Jersey on the map of big-time sports. But no matter what its fate, the hard truth is that the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which once netted tens of millions of dollars annually from The Meadowlands Racetrack and Giants Stadium, will likely be a lingering financial liability for state taxpayers. A series of decisions by officials over time have left it marooned, with significant structural costs and little means to pay for them

President Obama has quietly promised Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren complete support if she runs for president — a stinging rebuke to his nemesis Hillary Clinton, sources tell me. Publicly, Obama has remained noncommittal on the 2016 race, but privately he worries that Clinton would undo and undermine many of his policies. There’s also a personal animosity, especially with Bill Clinton, that dates from their tough race six years ago. A former Harvard law professor and administration aide, Warren would energize the left wing of the Democrat Party just as Obama did against Clinton in 2008. Thanks to her outspoken stand against big banks

It goes by the name of Japanese knotweed, or Fallopia japonica. It presents a pleasing appearance to the eye: heart-shaped leaves, bamboo stems and pretty, little white-flower tassels. Airlines in Ireland and China have looked into the concept, but none have yet put the idea into practice. Major carriers in the
