Self-Defense in the classroom is

A multiple stabbing attack by a lone perpetrator in a Pennsylvania school, in which more than 20 were wounded, has everyone crying for more metal detectors in schools, and for more guns in the hands of teachers, other school personnel and even students. Now, I’m a big proponent of an armed citizenry. I think an armed citizenry is one of the greatest, most effective deterrents to crime. But when I heard about this incident, my first thought was, “Whatsamatta, weren’t there any chairs in that school?” I believe this particular attack could have been curtailed without a single gun. In a school setting,

The part under the butt they said nothing about are your legs.
Use them. Get out of the building immediately.
All that cowering does is make it easy for the authorities to find all the bodies in one place.

This is one of the things I´ve noticed, kids today are no longer taught to defend themselves lest they be identified as "aggressive" or "bullies". That´s why one kid can stomp around for 30 minutes slashing and stabbing the sheep huddled together in fear.

I can promise you that had something like this happened in my school in the ´70´s, the butt-whuppin´ would have been EPIC!

The Government wants sheep, it does not want people that can think for themselves, or defend themselves or defend others. After all that is the job for the Government. What a sorry state we live in.

We call the police "first responders". They are NOT the first responders. They are the first government agents to respond. The real first responders to any incident are the people who are there, under attack. How they respond during those first minutes of the attack will ALWAYS determine the outcome. The government agents will draw the chalk lines and put up the crime scene tape after they have completed their Ninja Drills.

The kids did well. Adults with their twenty-twenty hindsight on how they would have handled the problem in their imagined youth are part of the problem. Kids pulled the fire alarm, provided first aid, and tackled the attacker. Teachers, administrators, and security personnel assisted in his apprehension. I am glad he didn´t have a gun, there would be multiple funerals being planned if he had. The problem we all need to work on is how to deal with the mentally ill.

"If he had had a gun" is pure speculation. I can speculate too: At the first shot, which could kill, wound, or miss entirely, the students could run clear, or if close enough, mob the assailant. Or an armed guard or adult could neutralize the attacker. In fact, if he had used a noisy gun instead of a silent knife there are any number of scenarios that would involve no fatalities at all, or just one, that of the attacker. But of course, the most likely one is the one that is taught and/or encouraged: everyone cower, err, "shelter in place" and wait for your turn to be offed while the cops are making their way to the scene.

Granted, I have not been in such a circumstance to need to defend myself beyond an insane Jack Russell or 3 maniacal preschool grandsons, but I did wonder the same thing. Did no one try to block him with books, a trash can, a keyboard, shoes, a back pack, purse, baseball bat, flag standard, broom or mop or chair? Guess I watch too many Jackie Chan movies to not think of anything at hand becoming an offensive or defensive device.

In April, President Obama told the nation that “marketplace” or “exchange” enrollment, at 8 million customers as of March 31, had exceeded expectations and costs were lower than expected. Many in the news media accepted the selectively released statistics, despite the Obama administration’s record of sometimes providing inaccurate or incomplete information on HealthCare.gov. Even today, the government continues to withhold relevant public information on costs and enrollment requested by Congress and the press under the Freedom of Information Act. In fact, the measure of the Affordable Care Act’s success rests neither with individual anecdotes nor in the Obama administration’s self-assessments.

Perhaps no issue better illustrates the current divide between everyday citizens and our political and business elites than the issue of immigration. The latter group draws the financial gains from a generous labor supply without considering the perspective of those on the other side of the ledger: the working people who have to worry about being laid off and replaced with lower-wage workers, about the strain placed on their local hospitals and neighborhood resources, or about cartel violence spilling across the border into their own communities.

Not much is certain in life, but here are two things you can take to the bank. If you want a child to learn to read, phonics is the way that works. Second, you can be sure that our Education Establishment will try to keep phonics at a minimum and force children to memorize the English language one sight-word at a time. Where reading is concerned, the nonsense never stops. In his famous 1955 book Why Johnny Can’t Read, Rudolf Flesch said he looked at all the research. National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.
