A Clear Choice on Defense
Real Clear Defense, by Paul Ryan

Original Article

Posted By:johngalt1, 4/9/2014 3:16:55 PM

The world is less safe when America doesn’t lead. But for President Obama, this lesson has yet to sink in. In February, he offered a budget that would cut crucial funding for our national security. So tomorrow, House Republicans will pass a budget that would give our troops the funding they need. First, let’s put things in perspective: For decades, defense spending made up roughly 50 percent of the federal budget. Today, it’s just 18 percent. And if we stay on the current path, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that defense will fall below 10 percent by 2024.

National defense is an odd topic of choice for someone who doubled down on his stunt to cut future pension COLAs of military retirees - the only recipients of federal payouts who Ryan dared to go after and cut.

Paul Ryan is not a moron. His budget provides for additional spending on defense. You may or may not like his ideas, but he is not a moron.

I´ll take this occasion to agree with #3. My argument with the House leadership is not with their intelligence and not with their motives or character. It´s with the undue influence that the financiers and beltway "mentality" has on them. In their minds, they are doing the best they can. However, they are not listening to us. In our minds, they are not providing the tough opposition to what is going on that our country so critically needs. Many are themselves victims of the corrupt beltway "system".

Ryan´s latest budget makes the case. No matter how well reasoned, it will not pass Harry Reid´s Senate and the Emperor´s veto, and everyone including Ryan knows it. Yet he persists in taking the Country Club approach.

We are not fooled: nothing will change until a real opposition rises that is willing to take to gloves off, forget about politeness, protocol, and political correctness, and stands these Chicago thugs and traitors in the WH down.

I´ve concluded that a new party, consolidating the myriad conservative splinter "third parties" is what is needed, short of open civil war. The last CW resulted in horrendous casualties and a divide in the nation´s spirit that has not healed to this day. We need to exhaust all Constitutional measures to avoid another one. In addition, horrendous debt and enemies abroad (now that we have much greater international "exposure") are existential threats.. Another CW would probably doom our Republic.

The Framers provided the remedies to rein in the abuse: impeachment, the purse (ability to shut down the government), and state-initiated amendments per Article V. Neither of the two "major" parties will use, let alone promote, these tools. That is why I believe we need a new one to properly apply them.

He´s a duplicitous, elitist Republican who believes we have forgotten what he did to the military retirees...which by the way he has not restored as he said he would. I wonder what happened??? I guess that was a good headline for a couple of days.

The battle today between the Salafist al-Qaeda hydra and Shia Twelvers in Iraq became inevitable late November 2013 in Geneva, when America agreed to suspend some sanctions against Iran and allow billions of dollars to flow into the coffers of the clerics who rule Persia and pull the strings of Bashar al-Assad. (Snip) Despite appearances, the real significance of Geneva may not be the opening of P5+1 nuclear negotiations with Hassan Rouhanni, but as a marker in history of the moment when Washington ceded Iraq to Tehran.

Leaders of the Western world expressed understandable dismay when Russia absorbed Crimea this March in what was essentially a hostile corporate takeover. Russia stripped Ukraine of its most valuable asset and saddled Brussels and Washington with Kiev’s debt in the process. Vladimir Putin ate the West’s geopolitical lunch and left it with the tab. Worse, the subsequent buildup of 40,000 combat-ready Russian troops along Ukraine’s eastern border forced Brussels and Washington to publicly confirm that the West would go no further than sanctions to prevent further Russian land-grabs in the region.

On April 6, Eurasianist storm troopers operating under Kremlin coordination launched assaults, seizing government buildings in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lugansk, and several smaller cities in eastern Ukraine; declared themselves to be the assemblies of independent governments; and immediately invited Russian troops to invade and annex their respective fictional statelets. There can be no doubt that many of the thousands of invaders involved were in fact Eurasianist storm troopers, and not, as reported by some media outlets, “pro-Russian protesters.” They carried the outward-radiating eight-arrowed flag of Putinist ideologue Aleksandr Dugin’s fascist Eurasianist movement and shouted and displayed its slogan

What you believe and what is actually true can often be two very different things, and the difference could kill you. I can believe my favorite sports team are the best of the best, only to be slapped in the face by reality on Sunday afternoon. I can believe my pay check will last me to the end of the month in spite of my busy social schedule and efforts to punish my liver at every available watering hole... only to be faced with the reality of baked beans on toast and hitching a lift to work when

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Sarah Palin on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of Republicans calling for the impeachment of President Obama, writing in a Breitbart op-ed that the influx of young illegal immigrants over the southern border "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´no mas.´ " Mixed/careless metaphors aside, this is nothing but bad news for Republicans — especially four months until the 2014 election. Palin is hardly the first GOP politician to raise the issue of impeachment over the past couple years. Others include Sens. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Reps. Blake Farenthold (R-Tex.),

Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Despite his continuous denials, some still believe that Mitt Romney will run for president in 2016. Speaking to MSNBC on Monday, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, went one step further saying that the former Massachusetts governor will be occupying the White House after the next presidential election. “I think he actually is going to run for president. He probably doesn’t want me to say that. A hundred times he says he’s not, but Mitt Romney has always accomplished what he has set out to do,”

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

Enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. His unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, “no mas.” Without borders, there is no nation. Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America. It’s the only promise he has kept. Discrediting the price paid for America’s exceptionalism over our history, he’s given false hope and taxpayer’s change to millions of foreign nationals who want to sneak into our country illegally. Because of Obama’s purposeful dereliction of duty an untold

World Net Daily reported, via Free Republic: The retail giant Costco Wholesale has issued an order to remove all copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book, “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” from the shelves of its stores nationwide, WND has confirmed. The book, in this midterm election year, is a strong rebuttal of the progressive ideology behind President Obama’s policies, which have been supported by Costco co-founder and director Jim Sinegal, a major Democrat donor and a speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention that nominated the president. A Washington Post political reporter has noted Obama’s “romance” with the nation’s

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton told the German magazine Der Spiegel on Tuesday that she and her husband Bill were ´deeply in debt´ when they left the White House, and blamed ´relentless persecution´ by Republicans for her legal bills after his presidency. The claim has added fuel to the fire Clinton herself touched off last month when she claimed they were ´dead broke´ after their time in the White House. The former first lady earns $200,000 or more every time she makes a public speech. The former president has earned a reported $104 million in speaking fees since he

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim. Costco has suddenly — and according to author Dinesh D’Souza, inexplicably —booted his book from stores nationwide, ordering chain operators to clear their shelves of “America: Imagine a World Without Her” by July 15. Mr. D’Souza said roughly 3,600 copies of his newest release has sold at Costco already, but he has no idea why the chain refuses to sell more. “We’re in the process of finding out what’s happening,” he told WND. “I look forward to getting to the bottom of this and continuing the strong relationship my publisher and I have always had with Costco and their millions
