The Paycheck Fairness bill failed in
the Senate today. It wouldn’t have
eliminated the wage gap anyway.

Washington Post, by Wesley Lowery

While today´s vote tally -- which broke down along party lines, with not a single Republican senator voting in favor of the bill -- was not unexpected, it came after weeks of a heavy messaging push from Democrats. Had it passed, the bill would have made it illegal for employers to retaliate against a worker who inquires about or discloses her or his wages or the wages of another employee in a complaint or investigation. It also would make employers liable to civil actions Those changes, Democrats argued, would make it easier for women suing for wages equal to their

Since there is no real gap the WP is lying. It couldn´t be party lines or it would have passed so WP is lying about that too.

Heard an analysis on the radio last night concerning this so called "wage gap". When relevant factors (conveniently left out by Hussein) are put in - hours worked (full vs. part time), job skill and career difficulty (engineering vs. social work), education level, etc. the gap disappears.

So how come the RINOs in the Senate didn´t do this for Ted Cruz when it was about implementation of Obamacare? I guess the National Chamber of Commerce likes Obamacare? Good going McConnel - I´m sure the primary voters of KY will like your heroic stand here as opposed to what Matt Bevin would do.

We already have laws requiring equal pay for equal qualifications for the same job. There are non discrimination laws in every state that work just fine. In this case manufacture an issue, create a false solution, ask how anyone could be against it, them blame republican as being responsible for it in the first place and totally against it now. Don´t you know our Ocationer is on the side of the angels.

In 1976, the summer after my freshman year in college, I attended the Clarion Science Fiction Writers’ Workshop on the bucolic grounds of Michigan State University. It was a six-week program, chaired each week by a different published author. The two dozen or so attendees came from all over the country, most of them beginners like me. At the opening cocktail party I met a hip but very serious young man named Paul who looked like he had just walked off a commune (which I’m pretty sure he had): macrobiotically starved, with stringy hair, what looked like tree moss growing on

Exploding shells and rockets rattled me awake in the early hours of a misty Tuesday morning in Saigon. I scrambled to my hotel roof and watched as fireballs, smoke and debris burst across the city’s famous airport — once one of the busiest in the world, now shut down as thousands desperate to evacuate jammed the hangars. As dawn arrived, people rushed to the rooftops of nearby buildings, staring in shock at the sudden, savage attack from artillery encircling the city. Two older military transport planes made an attempt to climb into the sky, slowly twisting and turning to escape

It was not so long ago that “The View” was a coveted destination on the presidential campaign circuit. Proving that one could play with Barbara Walters and the gang was a badge of cultural honor, one that Barack and Michelle Obama, among others, proudly wore. But now “The View” is a mess. Barbara has faded into retirement from the show she created, and in a messy housecleaning, only Whoopi Goldberg remains. The latest round of firings by ABC means that the franchise is in jeopardy. The program has been slipping. When I asked Walters why she was largely avoiding politics this season, she

Packed with doodles, corrections and margin notes, a working version of arguably Bob Dylan’s best known song has been sold by Sotheby’s for more than £1 million. Dylan’s tinkering with “Like a Rolling Stone” is laid bare on a piece of stationery from the Roger Smith hotel, a block from the White House in Washington DC. Scribbled in pencil on four sheets of paper, it appears like a stream of consciousness as Dylan put together a song which became almost an anthem for millions of teenagers in the 1960s. Amidst the lyrics are doodles of a chicken, a hat, a deer and possibly

Generally speaking, the further into a U.S. president’s tenure in office one gets, the less volatility there is in that president’s job-approval rating. It’s pretty logical that 1,979 days into Barack Obama’s presidency, the number of people most inclined to approve of his performance has stabilized, as has the number of those disposed to disapprove of him. Given that Obama tends to evoke particularly strong emotions with bedrock supporters and equally adamant opponents, arguably more people than usual have locked in their opinions. And those who are undecided by this point are the folks who have pretty much checked out of

Medicaid wrongly paid out more than $14 billion last year to managed care organizations, often for treatments or services that were not necessary, never performed or weren´t eligible for coverage. That´s according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office. For comparison, $14 billion is the cost of the new airport planned for Beijing, China. It´s also how much the U.S. government has spent training Iraq´s military since 2003. MCOs, which allow Medicaid beneficiaries to get their care though state-run programs are rapidly increasing in popularity through the expansion of Medicaid. The amount of annual improper payments could increase because of Obamacare,

One: Piketty’s Charge- If politics is a war by other means, then books often serve as the artillery. Take Herbert Croly’s The Promise of American Life, the foundational text of modern American liberalism. Its publication in 1909 was heralded as a revelation, when in fact it was more a synthesis of notions that had been floating around in the political ether for a decade. Theodore Roosevelt loved it. “I do not know when I have read a book which I felt profited me as much,” T.R. wrote to Croly. “I shall use your ideas freely in speeches I intend to

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. Hamas has not claimed responsibility for launching the rockets but Israel holds them responsible for everything coming out of Gaza. The Israel Defense
