Martin McGuinness dismisses
Lord Tebbit´s Real IRA jibe

Telegraph [UK], by Padraic Flanagan

Martin McGuinness, Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister, has criticised Lord Tebbit for saying he hopes the former IRA commander is shot in the back for toasting the Queen at a state banquet. Lord Tebbit’s disgust at Mr McGuinness’s invitation to Windsor Castle on Tuesday led the ex-Conservative chairman to claim that his presence may provoke the dissident Real IRA into shooting the Sinn Fein politician. The peer, who was injured along with his wife in the 1984 Brighton bomb, also said the Queen had no control over who was invited to the event to mark the visit to Britain of

The Queen was very gracious a couple of years ago when she shook hands with the Deputy First Minister. He remembers this and is behaving accordingly.

The race to stop Las Vegas
from running dry
Telegraph [UK], by Nick Allen    Original Article

Outside Las Vegas’s Bellagio hotel tourists gasp in amazement as fountains shoot 500ft into the air, performing a spectacular dance in time to the music of Frank Sinatra. Gondolas ferry honeymooners around canals modelled on those of Venice, Roman-themed swimming pools stretch for acres, and thousands of sprinklers keep golf courses lush in the middle of the desert. But, as with many things in Sin City, the apparently endless supply of water is an illusion. America’s most decadent destination has been engaged in a potentially catastrophic gamble with nature and now, 14 years into a devastating drought, it is on the verge

Isis--the greatest social media users in the world. Marketing geniuses. Or so we are constantly told. The truth is, there is nothing surprising, or particularly difficult, about what they do. This group is, after all, comprised of predominantly young men in their twenties, many of whom have grown up in the West and will be completely at ease with Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. [Snip] They have even been tweeting pictures of cats holding guns, in a bizarre mash up of Internet and Jihadi culture. In their smartest coup, Isis released, on the Google Store, a now banned Android app called The Dawn of Glad Tidings.

It might sound like a scene from Hamlet: “We go to gain a little patch of ground... which is not tomb and continent enough to hide the slain.” Was it necessary for David Cameron to fight over his little patch, in the form of Mr Juncker? [Snip] A Ruritanian grand duchy and a charming relic of the Holy Roman Empire, Luxembourg has done well to retain its independence in such a conflict-strewn region. Its principal industries are tourism and tax avoidance, and it is not a nursery of statesmen. In recent years, Gibraltar has produced more politicians who would be plausible members of a British Cabinet. In the early Eighties,

Paintings depicting the moment Charles Saatchi apparently throttled his former wife Nigella Lawson have emerged for sale, on his own art website. The couple divorced last year after Saatchi was seen with his hand around his wife’s neck as they sat outside Scott’s restaurant in Mayfair. [Snip] Pete Jones, 52, has listed ‘Last Course’ on the site – a picture of Miss Lawson with hands on her throat painted on a bread board - for £17,600. Another picture, painted by Jane Kelly and called Art Collector Throttling a Cook has a price tag of £1,170. Darren Udaiyan, 41, produced a Van Gogh style painting of the incident, which he uploaded to the site

U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner was in Moncks Corner earlier this month, according to a story posted Wednesday on The Berkeley Independent´s website. Abbie Brown of Brown´s BBQ got a phone call after the lunch rush on June 6 asking if someone special could come in for lunch. Boehner and his entourage of Capitol Police agents came in, and were later joined by former congressman Henry Brown, according to the story. Boehner had been in town to play golf earlier that day with the former congressman, the story said.

The game is up. No one will now believe that the United Kingdom can deliver a substantively different deal in Europe. The FCO´s ploy of doing a Harold Wilson--that is, making some piffling changes and presenting them as a significant new deal--has been discredited almost before it began. If David Cameron couldn´t prevent the appointment of Jean-Claude Juncker as President of the European Commission, no one will believe that he can deliver a more flexible EU, with more freedom of action for its member nations. I suspect this is one of those situations where normal people get the point more

It was retired Army Major Del Henty who first raised the alarm. Spotting the convoy of caravans making its way through the West Sussex village of Findon towards its picturesque village green at around 2.45pm on Tuesday he knew trouble was brewing. The convoy turned out to be a group of travellers intent on pitching their caravans on Nepcote Green--where for 300 years a traditional sheep fair has been held each summer--for what could have turned out to be weeks, if not months. Britain has moved a step closer to leaving the European Union after David Cameron declared “war” on Brussels over the nomination of Jean-Claude Juncker. [Snip] The result emboldened Eurosceptic MPs and Ukip supporters who want to leave the EU. However, Mr Cameron said he would wage a “long, tough fight” to reform Brussels before campaigning for Britain to remain in the EU in an in-out referendum he has promised to hold in 2017. Cameron knows that most of his counterparts regard Jean-Claude Juncker as a fairly useless, wine-soaked uber-federalist. Facebook’s News Feed—the main list of status updates, messages, and photos you see when you open Facebook on your computer or phone—is not a perfect mirror of the world. But few users expect that Facebook would change their News Feed in order to manipulate their emotional state. We now know that’s exactly what happened two years ago. For one week in January 2012, data scientists skewed what almost 700,000 Facebook users saw when they logged into its service. Some people were shown content with a preponderance of happy and positive words; some were shown content analyzed as sadder than average.

Edward Klein’s book about the animosity between the Clintons and Obamas, “Blood Feud” (Regnery Publishing), rocketed up the best-seller charts since it was featured in The Post last Sunday. Here, in another exclusive excerpt, Klein describes how Bill’s health is a preoccupation of the Clintons. A pair of black, armor-plated SUVs swung into a suburban cul-de-sac and crunched to a stop in the driveway of the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York. A wall of burly Secret Service agents jumped out and surrounded the man who emerged from the lead vehicle. It was mid-summer 2013, and Bill Clinton looked shrunken and weary.

With the news of a massive influx of immigrants on the southern border, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 22% of Americans favor increased immigration. Only 14% of Republicans, 23% of independents, and 27% of Democrats favor increased immigration. This included 50% of GOP voters, 43% of independents, and 32% of Democrats. The percentage of those preferring to decrease immigration has jumped from 35% in 2012 and 2013 to 41% in 2014. Dear Secretary Clinton, Please consider this in the nature of a friendly intervention. You have a money problem. It’s time to deal with it before it gets worse. Actually, you have two money problems. The first is how you talk about it. The second is how you collect it — or, to be more precise, the fact that you’re still frenetically collecting it. Let me be clear at the outset: The issue isn’t that you’re rich, or even that you and your husband became rich after leaving office. American voters don’t have a problem with wealthy candidates or even wealthy ex-presidents

What transpired in the Mississippi Senate run-off is a red line for many conservatives across the country, because the Republican Party establishment essentially took a civil war and escalated it to a war for independence. It’s one thing to oppose your base in a primary. It’s entirely another to despicably play the race card against your base, and bolster the legitimacy of the propaganda of our race-baiting opponents on the Left. But that’s exactly what the Kamikaze pilots running the GOP did. As a result, Chris McDaniel won Republican voters handily on Tuesday, but still lost the run-off statewide thanks
