Gun owners not pleased with
Mayor Fischer´s Thunder request

WDRB-TV [Louisville, KY], by Courtney Godfrey

Louisville, Ky. — Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer is asking gun owners to leave their firearms at home during this weekend´s Thunder Over Louisville. His comments aren´t sitting well with gun owners. Following a rash of teen violence in downtown Louisville in late March, gun owners have been vocal about their choice to carry a firearm. Many have told WDRB through interviews, phone calls and social media that the violence downtown is why they chose to carry. But despite the mob violence that took place in and around Waterfront Park the night of March 22, officials are assuring people that Thunder Over

Comments:
Fool Democrat mayor asks that citizens go defenseless during the fireworks event (so they can be easy pickings going back and forth to their cars parked on dark streets), makes no request that rioting thugs stay home. Typical, and easy comments from someone with his own personal armed police detail.

Encouraging reactions seen in the video, and from user comments. On the mean streets, hope and change does not cut the mustard.

Newark, where more than a quarter of residents live in poverty, is stuck paying $1 million a year on bonds for a baseball park that’s lost its main tenant. The $34 million Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, envisioned as a pillar of development in the state’s most populous city when it opened in 1999, is mostly silent this season after the Newark Bears folded amid dwindling attendance. The owners are trying to sell the club after putting belongings, including the team bus, up for auction in April. Taxpayers in Newark and surrounding Essex County are left with a combined $2 million a

Abortion is increasingly being used simply as a form of “contraception”, MPs claimed as official figures showed a surge in the number of women having nine or more terminations. Almost seven in 10 women who had a pregnancy terminated last year were married or in a stable long-term relationship, the new figures from the Department of Health show. Overall there were 190,800 abortions in England and Wales last year taking the total for the last decade to just under two million. Across mainland Britain as a whole there were 202,577 in 2013. The Coalition split over tackling knife crime will be laid bare next week when Conservative and Liberal Democrat ministers clash over moves to toughen penalties for carrying blades. Their differences will come to a head when the Commons votes on a Tory MP’s call for anyone caught twice with a knife to face an automatic jail sentence. Conservative ministers support the principle of the move, but it is opposed by the Liberal Democrats. After they failed to reach an agreed position, Tory ministers have been instructed to abstain, while the vast majority of Conservative backbenchers including parliamentary private secretaries are

Teen violence: Racial

Cincinnati — Teen mobs at city events is not a Cincinnati thing, and it´s been going on for years. Evidence of teen violence goes back to the Wisconsin State Fair in 2011, Philly, Chicago and spring 2014 in Louisville. They all have in common the attacks are by black, teenaged boys and girls. And most of the victims are white. The race factor is not something officials like to talk about. One UC criminology professor says that silence could be deadly. To some who called 911, the race factor was obvious. 11 victims filed reports saying they were kicked, punched

Top Senate Democrats and Republicans on Tuesday said they were considering offering American companies a one-time tax break if they repatriate profits stashed abroad. The senators anticipate the proposal would generate a windfall in revenue that would be used to fund federal transportation projects. U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters in the Capitol that Republicans had discussed a corporate tax repatriation "holiday" idea and "it enjoys a good deal of support in our conference." New York — Spending on corporate subsidies by the state of New Jersey has risen more than sevenfold under Republican governor Chris Christie, according to a study published on Wednesday, which concluded that the awards had done little to boost the state’s flagging economy. New Jersey has awarded tax breaks or credits at a rate of $75.9m per month since Christie came to office in 2010, compared to $10.1m per month during the previous decade, according to a report by New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP), a liberal-leaning thinktank. The study found that in all, $4bn worth of subsidies had been awarded

Kerry said he hoped to build momentum for the protection effort at a two-day summit at the State Department next week. The 16-17 June gathering will for the first time bring together world leaders, business executives, scientists, and environmental activists in an attempt to deal with major threats to oceans. “Increasingly, the ocean is threatened,” Kerry told a small group of reporters at the State Department. “The world´s oceans, as vast as

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – It´s perhaps appropriate that President Barack Obama is vacationing this weekend in California, where the state flag features a roaming grizzly. The restless president, who has compared himself to a caged animal on recent wanderings by declaring the "bear is loose," took a long Father´s Day weekend away with his wife and older daughter. The visit to the desert resort area of Palm Springs is one of the ways Obama has been trying to escape during his sixth year cloistered in the White House. Barack and Michelle Obama´s weekend visit to Palm Springs, California, started out with a wardrobe malfunction for the first lady - but luckily the president was there to save the day. The first couple were stepping off Air Force One at the Palm Springs International Airport on a balmy Friday evening when a gust of wind nearly blew up the voluminous skirt of Mrs Obama´s green-and-black summer frock. The 50-year-old first lady was photographed struggling to tame the billowing fabric, with a relaxed Mr Obama walking alongside her with a rueful smile on his wife.Eventually, the commander-in-chief came to his

Anaheim, CA - President Obama, appearing emboldened after his recent move to cut carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, on Saturday ridiculed members of Congress who deny climate change or plead scientific ignorance as an alibi for avoiding an uncomfortable truth. Speaking in gleefully sarcastic terms to a commencement ceremony at the University of California, Irvine, Mr. Obama likened those who deny climate change to people who would have told John F.
