The incredible hypocrisy of
21st Century feminism

Jewish World Review, by Alicia Colon

Original Article

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted. In addition, opponents of the amendment also warned that it would lead to abortion on demand and same-sex marriages.

Amen Alicia.

I suspect that current "feminists" ignore the horrors that Islam inflicts on women for the same reason that the left refuses to call them out on their many other human rights abuses. The feminists would like to keep their own heads firmly attached to their bodies.

(While at the same time supporting the Gosnell´s of the world who decapitate babies daily in the name of "choice")

Here´s another big hypocrisy for you: The pro abortionist women who screech that they and they alone must have total control over their bodies are the same women who willingly submit their bodies to government bureaucratic control under Obamacare.

Men and women are wired differently. God created them that way. Feminists want to change that. As a result, we have women prostituting themselves for attention and jobs, and the ability to hook up with anybody anytime they want to without emotional attachments. Men are still using them as props and for sex. Feminists just don´t realize what has happened. Good article; well thought out.

Feminism was once about equal rights - ie the right to be equal where it was possible to be equal, such as being able to vote. It was a just cause.

Today, however, feminism is based on the assumption that women must strive to be equal even when it is not possible to be equal. For instance, consider this desire by feminists to equate female strength to male strength. It flies in the face of biological logic.

This never-ending desire by modern feminists to be equal when it is not possible to be equal is producing distortions of reality, and is part of a wider distortion - of words, ideas and values - that has run amok in the last 50 years. It is also driving women to depression because it holds them to an unrealistic standard.

The biggest lie of the NOW harridans was that oral contraception (the pill) prevented fertilization. It does not. It prevents a fertilized egg (conception has already taken place) from implanting in the uterine wall of the womb. This is why the Catholic Church does not condone oral contraception. Many good women, even religious women, unwittingly may be aborting a child with their monthly cycle. This is why the Catholic Church does not condone oral contraception. The chemical manipulation of women’s hormones often leads to infertility or birth defects when they do decide to have children. (Could this be the cause in the rise of autism, rather than immunizations?)

My sisters, please read the insert that comes with your monthly prescription.

I have a dear friend who is writing a book for Ignatius Press on the “Revolution That Betrayed Women.” In 1968 (the same year as Pope Paul VI “Humanae Vitae”) Betty Friedan high-jacked one of the first NOW national conventions and rammed through an abortion platform late at night, in much the same manner Reid rammed through zerocare. The convention had been packed with radical feminist students who caterwauled about abortion as a right, while the serious feminist old guard comments were shut down or summarily dismissed. One third of the delegates walked out and away from NOW after the abortion plank was approved by a 57-vote margin. Freidan then claimed the convention spoke for all the women in America. 57 votes brought radical abortion policies to America. I can’t wait until her book is finished. She has unearthed some volatile evidence.

Took a train into Boston once, and at Wellesley stop, a young lady got on and she was wearing a tee shirt that read, "Down with Patriarchy". I thought to myself that she must be a student at Wellesley which is Hillary´s alma mater. Seeds sown are still growing.

M. Thatcher correctly described feminism as poison. You ever notice that no matter what victory they achieve, Title IX, quotas, leftist curriculum, equal pay etc. They always find something to keep them angry. That´s how they keep the group-think going. I don´t want to trivialize their movement. It is dangerous, they want to destroy everything in our society.

The credibility of so-called "feminists" has taken two major blows from which it cannot recover. The first is the one Alicia makes in the article, which is that American feminists completely ignore the fact that women are oppressed in other cultures to a degree that most women in the U.S. cannot even fathom. (As Charles Krauthammer once said, one cannot plausibly ascribe to the tenets of both feminism and multiculturalism simultaneously.) The other is that abortion so dominates the feminist agenda that they regularly go all out to support the most abject of womanizing misogynists (cf. Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy) so long as they support expansive abortion rights

I am at least glad to hear about Phyllis Chesler, cited in the article.

She and Tammy Bruce are both strong women who are fighting for the actual independence that the feminist movement of the 70´s lied it was after.

As a gullible college student I bought all of this until reading Ayn Rand. Only then did I discover that feminists wanted to replace all cooperation between women and men with a monolithic Daddy State to take care of the women.

It is so rare today when a woman speaks up in defense of women worldwide. In reminding us of the frivolous issues of past feminists, Alicia Colon points out the contrast with more serious issues facing women today, issues of actual oppression and physical harm in less modern cultures. Focusing on these issues is not politically comfortable, so today´s feminists prefer to look for other meaningless issues like ´contraception´, the long broken glass ceiling and the imaginary 77 percent differential in over all pay compared to men in general rather than compared to exact work requirements in hours, physical ability and assignment.

From my own personal friendships alone with two different couples, the differences between two married lawyers and two married doctors are quite illustrative. In each case the women make substantially more than their husbands, because the women have a more highly paid specialty in their field than their husband´s. The problem with feminism is that most of what they think and stress as important is a generality, because it is an easy sell to the shallow minded.

Feminism is about preferential treatment. So are black rights, hispanic rights, gay rights, union rights, islamic rights, etc.

The problem is that preferential treatment always comes at the expense of someone else, and has nothing to do with equality.

After practicing law for 10 years, I took "Women and the Law," as part of my course load to get an LLM at George Washington University Law School. This was the spring of 1984. I was the only male in the class. W/O boring you with the details, the experience was a real eye opener for me. Based on the comments of the instructor that were mostly irrelevant to an analysis of the course, and the responses of about 1/3 of the students, I came to the conclusion that feminists, like any other liberal special interest group, are total frauds. They claim that they seek equality for all. But that´s just to lure well-meaning suckers into providing support. Their true goal is never equality. It is POWER. Once they have the power, they can advance their own agenda, which often includes retaliation and revenge against those who offended them in the past or only offered tepid support. Look no further than the retaliation suffered from a Silicon Valley CEO who offended the gal lobby for anecdotal proof for this conclusion.

As a professional woman in what was once thought of as a man´s profession, I fought hard for respect. Feminists of my era wanted workplace equality because we had what was required above the shoulders. We advocated that reproductive organs had nothing to do with equal ability. Today´s feminist is all below the belt, undoing all the work her forebears devoted to their opportunities and defiling it with the lowest form of female caricature. Hypocrisy is the least of it, the damage they do to the next generation of women is unconscionable.

I was exposed to a unique view of gender differences. I grew up with seven older sisters, two younger sisters, and two younger brothers – 24 years difference in ages. Our father worked two or three jobs and our mother was the housekeeper. We had a big house, a huge yard, and a sizable garden. We all had to clean, do the dishes, mow the lawn, and work in the garden – our father was an equal opportunity taskmaster.

At Christmas, dolls for the girls, guns for the boys. That’s what we wanted. As the first boy after seven girls, I was excluded from hand me down rules – boys bikes had a bar on them, girls shirts button from the other side, and girl’s jeans had the zipper on the side. Other than that, we were treated equal.

My sisters know how to use a hammer and a saw and at times still will, but they gravitated to the realm of women. My brothers and I remember how to knit and pearl, but we will build a deck instead. One sister received state aid for her mentally handicapped daughter, otherwise, none of us has received government support beyond Social Security or unemployment.

The only times my sisters griped about inequality was due to the way they were created - the monthly “curse”, they couldn’t just duck behind a tree to find “relief”, and now that the youngest is 52 years old, hot flashes. In society, they were treated as equals when they acted as equals and, believe me, they’ve embarrassed their share of men with their abilities.

We are created equal concerning rights, but we are not created equal with regards to physical, mental or spiritual characteristics. You can’t really legislate equality and respect, but with determination you earn them.

Excellent article.

Feminism, like most of the -isms and ´rights´ campaigns, was a whole-cloth exercise in divide and conquer with the so-called empowered groups willingly jettisoning their individuality in exchange for being shackled to a politician or party.

A decade is an eyeblink when counting centuries but I would submit that feminism wrote its epitaph with the Anita Hill farce followed by their deafening silence on a case of sexual harassment and predation by no less than the President of the United States.

Now they´ve got the brass neck to promote a woman for the presidency who just happened to be married to the predator in question and did worse than nothing: she enabled his antics and lied about it.

Death isn´t immoral when it occurs naturally. For the hand of man to willfully cause it is what is immoral.

Hillary Clinton appeared Tuesday on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to promote her book, "Hard Choices." Stewart briefly discussed the 656-page tome about Clinton´s tenure as secretary of state and then asked exactly what everyone is wondering. "No one cares," about the book, he said. "They just want to know if you´re running for president." Stewart, like so many, tried to get the answer -- even telling Clinton that it sounded like she had just declared that she was running. Like so many others Stewart couldn´t confirm anything, but he gets points for asking the most creative questions.

Politicians in Germany have devised an ingenious solution to combat the threat of eavesdropping by American spies: playing classical music during their meetings. MPs who sit on the spying committee had become so concerned that US agents might listen in to their discussions that they had ordered classical music to be played, to drown out the discussions. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the
