Will the vanity of centrists
doom us to climate disaster?

The Week, by Ryan Cooper

Original Article

Since the release of the new IPCC report on the current and future effects of climate change, climate hawks (including myself) have made the same very basic argument that we always do: Climate change looks bad, potentially very bad, and therefore we should curtail the greenhouse gas emissions which cause it. Clive Crook writes that this is approach is somehow responsible for public skepticism of climate change: The main reason for the disconnect between the science and the public is the gross tactical incompetence of the climate-science community, as it´s called, and its political champions. Consider this latest installment of the

FTA "Climate change looks bad, potentially very bad, and therefore we should curtail the greenhouse gas emissions which cause it."

Whether climate change looks (potentially very) bad or not is certainly debatable. The pseudo scientific conclusion that greenhouse gas emissions cause it is NOT debatable...it doesn´t, unless you´re a tree hugger who never took a science course in High School or College.

What nonsense. Show us some hard, empirical evidence - not computer model projections - and we might start to take you seriously. Your "chicken little" and "crying wolf" hysteria is not enough to compromise the world´s economy, leading to the starvation of millions. It´s the Sun, stupid. The burden of proof is upon you. Proof, not conjecture. We don´t care if every self-proclaimed scientist on the planet echoes your unsubstantiated alarmist cries. The preponderance of scientists once claimed that the earth is flat. This is science, not democracy. We demand solid proof - nothing else will do.

You can start by accurately predicting something that is not obvious. Something like the slowdown of atomic clocks in orbit, the Higgs boson, the Milliken oil drop experiment, or even the nuclear bomb. Something repeatable and verifiable. Even accurately predicting the average high temperature in New York City next August might get us to take your models more seriously. That is how many scientific theories have been confirmed. Until properly confirmed, they are just speculative theories - especially yours.

Do it, or just go away.

I don´t know how to model climate and I don´t need to know how in order to recognize that a model whose predictions are not realized is wrong. The IPCC scare mongering continues to rely on a connection between X percent of CO2 equal Y temperature rise when the facts do not comport with this theory. There may be a problem! There is currently no support for the predictive causes of a problem. Science is all about falsification and the climate model upon which all the doom predictions are based is clearly false.

Scientific American had the gall to run an article by Michael Mann where he labeled the current real live pause in temperature rise a "faux pause". Just what would a real pause look like?

Our entitlement programs represent a huge and rapidly growing unfunded liability. Every year for the last 7 years at least, the trustees have said we either need to double premiums, cut distributions in half, or some combination of both. We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that doing nothing will result in the US becoming another Greece within 20 years. Yet we do nothing.

The worst error in science is to conclude based on your data that there is a change that isn´t truly there. So the rigorous approach is hypothesize that global average temperature was the same between 1897 and 1997. When the scientist tested that hypothesis, they found that could not be supported at 95% confidence limits. On that basis, they agreed that there probably was a small increase in average global temperature. They could not disprove the hypothesis man had no effect on the global temperature. But the politician decided it was man´s fault anyway. And now for the last 16 years there has been no increase in temperature despite higher CO2 levels.

A prudent rational man would conclude that we are better off fixing our entitlement programs and wait til we know for certain that mankind is affecting the global temperature.

Dialing up the hysteria, shouting the same BS louder and more often does not make it even a tiny bit more persuasive. The "science" is garbage, and much of the "data" is cherry picked or outright faked like the fake hockey stick graph.

Climate models are fantasy based on speculation, estimation and voodoo. They can predict nothing, and are uselessly undependable. Exactly none of their predictions have come about.

No, thank you. Keep your damned leftist, central planning hands off of my money and away from the levers of power.

Harare, Zimbabwe — President Robert Mugabe’s statement early this month that whites will no longer be allowed to own land in Zimbabwe, and that any white farmers still left will be kicked out, raised eyebrows at home and abroad. Now those comments by the long-ruling autocrat are bringing a backlash in Zimbabwe’s beleaguered trade and tourism ministries. One Harare business newspaper calls them “not just racist but also unconstitutional, retrogressive, and detrimental.” As the Monitor reported July 3, Mr. Mugabe visited a small farming community 120 miles from the capital Harare that was handing out land permits. The group says the U.S. Department of Interior approved mining plans without enough public involvement, and gave little heed to the pollution caused by digging, shipping and burning coal. The group asked the courts to stop mining until the plans are re-done. The
