Caught kissing staffer, Rep. Vance McAllister
asks for forgiveness

A married freshman Republican congressman who campaigned on his Christian, conservative values apologized Monday after surveillance video surfaced purportedly showing him in a lengthy liplock with a staffer. In the Dec. 23 footage, obtained by a local newspaper, Rep. Vance McAllister, R-La. - who ahead of his election last fall ran multiple campaign ads trumpeting his faith and family - is seen kissing and embracing a woman for about 20 seconds at his Monroe, La., district office. The Ouachita Citizen reports the woman is the congressman´s 33-year-old part-time scheduler, who is also married.

From another article:

A married Republican U.S. representative apologized on Monday after a Louisiana newspaper posted a surveillance video showing a man it identified as the congressman kissing a woman from his office staff.

"There´s no doubt I´ve fallen short and I´m asking for forgiveness," Representative Vance McAllister said in a statement issued by his office. "I´m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve."

Vance, who took office last November in a special election that he won partly by touting his Christian values, made the statement after the Ouachita Citizen in West Monroe, Louisiana, posted the video on its website.

Well, great - he´s the guy endorsed by the Duck Dynasty Robertson family.

He has a long list of apologies to make.

This angers and disgusts me. What kind of an idiot do you have to be not to realize that a Republican congressman - especially one who claims to be conservative - and endorsed by conservative celebrities, is going to be watched like a hawk for any misstep? So, he decides to cheat on his wife?

I don´t know that the person who might replace him would have any better character, and a leftist´s votes would cause even more harm, so I tend to agree with those who say to apologize and get back to work, although it sickens me to say it.

Vitter has apparently, and thankfully, cleaned up his act. This guy can do the same. It would take something worse than this to not be given a second chance considering the behavior of some of the others on the Hill.

For those posters who say, yes but.....it is never a valid defense to point out that others do it too, or do it worse, or do it more often.

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend.
