Supreme Court rejects appeal from
New Mexico photographer who

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday from a studio that refused to photograph a lesbian couple´s commitment ceremony, letting stand a New Mexico high court ruling that helped spur a national debate over gay rights and religious freedom. The justices left in place a unanimous state Supreme Court ruling last year that said Elane Photography violated New Mexico´s Human Rights Act by refusing to photograph the same-sex ceremony "in the same way as if it had refused to photograph a wedding between people of different races."

The Supreme`s are cowards! They are thinking of workload only, not quality of outcome.

As I have said before, gays are just shooting themselves in their collective feet.

Small business owners are taking note; they won´t cite religion next time, they´ll just be "busy".

You are not going to force people to serve others that they have an issue with. Not going to happen.

If I was a photographer, it would be all nice and smiles and everything, but sorry, I am booked that week!

From this appeal rejection, if government can force citizens to serve anyone who demands service, then government can also force citizens to serve the state at prices determined to be "fair". And this, coincidentally is what is happening to America´s healthcare under Obama such that doctors will be screwed-over after years of expense and difficult training.
These doctors will retire rather than let Obama determine how they run their medical practices. Control over every aspect of life, from healthcare to energy, is the Progressives´ aim ... kind of like the USSR.

Fight fire with fire. The government can force you to provide services to occasions that you have a moral disagreement with but the government can´t (so far) force you to provide your best effort for said required services. I mean I´m must saying sometimes memory cards breakdown, erase themselves, etc. Cameras can be fickle after all.

So boys and girls, what part of the Constitution did you use for that decision?

What about the rights we all have to not be ´slaves´?

You are saying that Gays can make this photographer into a slave and he MUST do what they want regardless of anything, not to mention his religious convictions...

In effect you have established Progressive Secularism as a state religion and we all must obey!

WRONG DECISION!

A traditional couple should go to a Muslim meat market and demand that they make pork sausage for their wedding. If the refuse, sue.

So, if it was a nude wedding would she have to take the pictures? If if was a hard rock wedding would she have to take the pictures? What control do each of us have over our lives?

Now personally, I would be happy to take the wedding pictures. However, can we accept government REQUIRING us to take them? What else may government require? I fear there are no limits, so long as the requirements do not offend our masters in the black robes. If a statute DOES offend them they can find a reason to hold it unconstitutional every time.

#9, I´ll go a few better.

How about demanding that the local, gay female accountant who does in-home services--has to work around my giant blown-up photographs of tortured gay women in other countries? We´ll call it art.

How about the local, black, webmaster be forced to maintain my KKK website?

How about the gay head of a marketing agency be forced to strategize with me about how I can--legally--refuse service to gays?

How about a gay actor forced to take a part of a gay pedophile, in a movie called "All Gays are Also Pedophiles". It will be on TV, with a big marketing plan. His face will be everywhere.

How about a gay teacher forced to teach about what the Bible says about homosexuals in a private school?

Or how about this. We find out which Judge has children or grandchildren, find an accused child-molester who got off, and then insist that guy babysits their children or face a lawsuit. I mean, they are deciding that everyone must do business together, regardless of personal feelings, so that babysitting job better be open to everyone.

Oh, they wouldn´t like that?

The photographer should have been smarter. All he had to do was quote a price that was two to three times his normal fee. The "ladies" would have gone to another photographer, and we wouldn´t be facing this mess.

So should it also be okay again to deny service in a retail establishment based on race, gender, ethnicity? All those reasons could be said to be based on one´s religious beliefs.

#14, look at it this way. Should you have to work in unpleasant situations in your own private business? Things that make you uncomfortable? Does a pretty girl have to give me a massage when I won´t stop staring at her breasts and making dirty jokes? Should you have to have me as a chiropractic patient when I--purposely--keep passing gas in your face when you are doing a procedure? Do you have to give golf lessons to a guy who was accused--but not proven--to have beat his previous golf instructor to death with a club?

I can do this all day.

Doing a mediocre job will just get a refusal to pay by the client. In fact, just doing a regular effort may get a refusal to pay on some trumped up claims - given that many of these wedding jobs are not made in good faith , rather they are made to stir up trouble.

Payment up front I would guess is the only smart way to do wedding business - given the human flotsam and jetsam getting married these days. If I were running the business I would let it be known that any one of my "staff" is liable to show up to do the shoot. I would thus have available someone who wouldn´t mind doing the job if I didn´t want to - a gay relative or someone.

Given that every gay marriage turns off a large number of heteros to ever getting married, or at least having a "big wedding", forfeiting the gay business may not be a good long-term business model.

Women have had enough headache getting the groom to play "dress up" in weddings past. Now, you are asking a normal hetero male to dress up and essentially mimic something that Elton John and his spouse did a few months back. "Honey does this wedding tux make me look gay?"

I stand with #14. If you are offering a public service the law says no discrimination. You certainly know it when you take a business license. If you want to restore some level of discretion, however you define it, take it up with your state representatives, or move to a state with fewer protected classes.

It required four votes for the court to take up the case. They are not taking up the case. I suspect this may tell us how the gay marriage cases are going to come out.

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend.
