Health Care Without End
New York Times, by Ross Douthat

Original Article

SO you think it’s finished? So you think now that enrollment has hit seven million, now that the president has declared the debate over repeal “over,” now that Republican predictions of a swift Obamacare unraveling look a bit like Republican predictions of a Romney landslide, we’re going to stop arguing about health care, stop having the issue dominate the conversation, and turn at last to some other debate instead? You think it’s over? It’s never over. I mean, O.K., it will be over in the event of a nuclear war, or a climate apocalypse, or if the robots eventually rise up and

Much like abortion without end. When you impose something that a majority of Americans resist, the argument tends to persist.

Nobody knows what will happen with the various suspended and hollowed-out provisions — whether the employer mandate will ever take effect, whether the individual mandate will be enforced along the lines that its architects argued was necessary for the law to work.

Let´s hope neither mandate works simply because they are mandates -- we are ordered by the Imperial Democrats, the Imperial President and the Imperial John Roberts to buy something few of us wanted. It should die a quick death, but Douthat is right. It won´t.

...and liberals looking for a reform (ahem, single payer) that doesn’t leave 30 million Americans uninsured.

Single payer was the goal all along and continues to be. Democrats voted for single payer and they knew it. At this moment, the O´Care system is a mess, a disaster. When it gets so bad, everyone will throw up their hands and say it cannot work, so let´s just simplify everything and go single payer.

As for "30 million uninsured", even if that were true, and I´m not at all sure it is, so what? That is their choice. What happened to choice in one´s own health care? And please, don´t compare it to the necessity of having auto insurance. In the latter, one should have insurance because you can kill someone else in an auto accident. But with mandating health insurance, you are responsible only for yourself.

..“worse” will be the result of betterment: our political debates will be consumed by health care because of all that medicine can do for us,...

Typical liberal, deciding that traditional medicine is always the best route and that everyone SHOULD, DAMMIT, have it. What about those people who have been harmed by the medical care system? Iatrogenic illnesses and deaths are almost epidemic. People having the wrong limbs removed, the wrong (dangerous) medicines prescribed, second surgeries because the first one left a "leak" somewhere. You hear only half or less of those stories. I know.

If liberals would stop interfering in the lives of others, we´d be fine. We were fine, until they got hold of our schools, our military, our Congress, our bodies, our Courts, marriage, and soon, our Churches. Their ravenous appetite for control is all-consuming, while we get that deer-in-the-headlights look every time another liberty is lopped off our Constitution. Like we can´t see this coming any more? Please.

Please, just leave us the hell alone to choose our own ways to live and die.

Was it not the game-changer of all game-changers when Dictator Wannabe Barack Hussein Obama had his ‘Emily Litella: “Never mind!”’ moment? It sure as shootin’ was. Keep your plan! Keep your doctor! Yada yada yada and so on and so forth. Trust but verify? No way! Distrust and distrust some more! That’s more like it!

Who’s to say “a Romney landslide” didn’t take place? In Obama’s world, voter fraud is an art form.

And then there‘s “Stinkburger” - Why else would he talk and behave like an adolescent unless he was one?

After five years, BHO has proven himself to be unworthy of my trust at any time on any subject. Period.

Poster #2 has very effctively pointed out just how much America has become Two Americas: those of us who don´t need or want the government in our lives and those who eagerly do want the government involved in all aspects of their lives. And until the majority of our elected representatives figure this out or understand it, it won´t matter who we elect as President.

A health care plan is not health care.

The brochure you get from a resort, is not equal to the vacation you have there.

The website that signs you up has been a joke. It is not able to write you a prescription, nor take out you tonsils. THAT is health care.

Another possible outcome is that this obamacare fiasco will inadvertently fix the healthcare system. Once obamacare implodes on itself (it can´t do anything else) there will be a period of chaos where almost nobody is covered. Medical costs will go down because nobody can afford to go to the doctor. Doctors and hospitals will find creative ways to provide healthcare and the insurance companies that haven´t gone bankrupt will begin to compete for our business with lower rates. Their lawyers will push for tort reform instead of accepting the outlandish settlements as the cost of doing business. Anything that prices itself out of the market either adapts or dies.

#2 and #5 are correct. This bill is more about control than care. In fact I think we should start calling it the "Health Control" bill as it implies its about heavier government regulations, just the "Gun Control" debate is.

Government authorities were wise to back off in April when scofflaw Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy surrounded himself with armed supporters to avoid paying more than $1 million in grazing fees and penalties he had accumulated over two decades. As infuriating as it was that Bundy had repeatedly defied court orders and insisted he could graze his cattle wherever he pleased, he wasn´t worth a bloody confrontation. Three months later, though, Americans who obey the law and pay their bills might wonder how long Bundy and his gun-toting pals are going to get away with rejecting the rule of law. It´s bad enough

In Denver, Colorado, a local Planned Parenthood clinic is being sued by a mother who is alleging that they refused to report the suspected sexual abuse of her daughter by her stepfather, Timothy David Smith. Cary Smith is alleging that Planned Parenthood performed an abortion on her then 13-year-old daughter, R.Z., who was brought there by Timothy, who was also the unborn baby’s father, and that Planned Parenthood failed to report clear signs of possible sexual abuse and returned her home with her rapist. The legal positions of President Obama’s Justice Department have been slapped down unanimously a remarkable 13 times in the Supreme Court in the last two years. Over and over, even Obama’s own two appointees to the court — Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan — have held that the president has exceeded his authority and violated the separation of powers. This coming week, we could see the second-highest court in the land rule that the administration broke the law in enforcing a key provision of Obamacare, calling into question once again Obama’s fidelity to the Constitution — and further endangering his

Communist regimes have long specialized in committing enormous resources and legions of secret police stooges to the airbrushing of their own histories. Persons—both living and dead—become non-persons, past events become events that never happened, certain subjects become unmentionable in any public forums and sometimes even in private conversation. This brand of enforced amnesia becomes necessary with these regimes for the simple reason that they are far more terrified of their own populations than the threats from the outside world that they are constantly handwringing about. At a recent hearing, Rep. Paul Ryan neatly summarized the problem the IRS has when he responded to Commissioner John Koskinen this way: “I don’t believe it. That’s your problem: Nobody believes you.” Now two federal judges have basically said the same thing. Last Thursday, US District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan, a Bill Clinton appointee, ordered the IRS to designate an official to explain — under oath — how it lost the Lois Lerner e-mails. The judge also asked a federal magistrate to look at other ways the court might find the IRS records. The order was followed the next day with

Barack Obama did not blow apart Hillary Clinton’s huge lead during the 2008 Democratic primaries just because he was a landmark African-American candidate, new to the scene, and a skilled campaigner. Even Democrats were all Clintoned out. By such weariness, I don’t suggest that either of the Clintons is unpopular. Indeed, Americans apparently look fondly back on the high-growth 1990s as the continuation of the Reagan-Bush boom years, and a time when Democrats and Republicans finally fixed budget deficits. (Note well that when Obama went back to the Clinton-era tax rates for the more affluent, the deficit dipped, but certainly did

Worse, the Nevada Democrat has become especially fond of slinging race cards just to crank up the outrage. Last week, Sen.
