Some gay activists fear

Washington Times, by Cheryl Wetzstein

The resignation of a Silicon Valley executive who opposed gay marriage and refused to recant has sparked an online fight among gays about whether proponents of same-sex marriage are now going too far in trying to marginalize their opponents socially and economically. The announcement by popular Web browser Mozilla Firefox that co-founder and CEO Brendan Eich was stepping down after two weeks on the job for a 2008 contribution has sparked furious debate over civil rights, privacy and corporate responsibility. A leading gay blogger has accused the movement of displaying the same intolerance activists accuse their opponents of practicing, while

Yes, some militant gays are intolerant. However, we are at a tipping point in this country. We cannot afford to let the liberals retain power by distracting us on social issues, when our basic safety (the military) and economy (free enterprise) are hanging in the balance. I believe fervently that marriage should be between one man and one woman. However, I am a federalist. Marriage is not in the Constitution, and therefore by definition under the 10th Amendment is a matter reserved to the people and the states respectively. The Democrats want to make this, abortion, contraception, health insurance, education, and a host of other state issues a matter of national regulation. Don´t fall for debating the merits and emotion attached to each. These are issues for each state to decide. The national issues are freedom for the individual as expressed in the ten Bill of Rights, free enterprise, sensible taxation, protection of the family against the nanny state, a balanced budget and vigorous military spending. Lose on these issues and eventually we lose America. Pretty fundamental.

I agree with #3. No one is saying that anyone should support or even forget abortion, but as a legal issue, it is better left to the states. I think an L.dotter said it best when she said something like we don´t need to make it illegal, we just need to make it unthinkable. Education is the answer. Changing hearts and minds is always more effective than the iron fist of government. As long as the GOP keeps presenting this issue in its platform as a legal issue, we will always lose support. Better not to discuss it during elections but rather to educate the public separately. Social issues will always kill us if we try to control others with more government, especially when we are supposedly fighting for less government intervention into our daily lives.

Oops, by the way...yes, the radicals ARE intolerant and I have said this for years. Most of the gay activists are not really looking out for their best interests. The radicals are actually leftist tyrants first. That is their true agenda. The majority of the gay population is being hurt by these radicals and it looks like some folks are starting to realize it.

As I stated on the original article comments, there is unintentional blowback from this.

If you were a business owner, and had no issues with hiring gays before, do you feel the same now?

Sorry I don´t, and I am sad that I must admit that. But seeing what has transpired the past few years, never going to happen.

Why should I? Why should I hire people that if I do something in my life that counters their beliefs, they´ll try to wreck my business? Or impact my livelihood?

Forget it. The unintended consequences is that a lot of people making hiring decisions, even for big companies, are going to ask themselves a question..."Do I really need to take a risk of having all this hassle, and whining, and workplace disruption, and lawsuits?"

The answer will be no.

By the way, I do enjoy seeing the gay activists eating each other alive.

Four out of five illegal immigrants seeking driver’s licenses under a new D.C. law have failed a written knowledge test — a rocky start to a program that in its first two months has issued 268 licenses, according to city officials. The failure rate of 80 percent compares with a 58 percent failure rate for people seeking traditional driver’s licenses, the Department of Motor Vehicles told a D.C. Council committee. In addition, a check of the DMV website this week shows a massive backlog in appointments required to apply for the District’s “limited-purpose license.” The first available date for an

President Obama has described his foreign-policy doctrine as an attempt to hit singles, doubles and the occasional home run. But at this stage of the game, it looks as though he has popped out, grounded into a double play and been hit by a pitch. His attorney general, Eric Holder, said Sunday that the threat of undetectable explosives from Syria is “more frightening than anything” he has experienced in office. And the Wall Street Journal ran a front-page article Monday reporting that “the breadth of global instability now unfolding hasn’t been seen since the late 1970s” and that “U.S. global

ASHKELON, Israel — The roar of sirens echoed across this sun-kissed city Monday afternoon, and in a heartbeat the woman in the pink bikini was out of the pool, shepherding her three young kids to the nearest shelter. Up above, the vapor trail of a rocket fired from Gaza, just 10 miles down the coast, ripped the clear blue sky. And then, a boom: The rocket had been shot down. The kids jumped back in the seaside pool, and their mother returned to her tanning. Through it all, the lifeguard had barely stirred. Such is the dichotomous reality this week

Ponder for a minute what AFSCME has done. The union has severed ties with the United Negro College Fund because the Koch brothers contributed $25 million to the fund. Or rather, because the fund accepted the contribution. The money will pay for 3,000 scholarships and other needs. To read about this episode, go here. The hatred whipped up against the Koch brothers has become nearly frightening, I think. It is undemocratic, unsettling, intolerant. Maybe it is time for a shake-up. President Obama’s second-term staffing was always going to be a risk. He abandoned his first term’s team of rivals for a closer-knit team of loyalists. The bet was that he was assured enough in the job to no longer need the in-house challenge — and that smooth-running consensus would compensate for the loss. The bet isn’t paying off. Overseas and at home, the administration seems besieged and befuddled. Obama is in danger of cementing an image of haplessness that would be hard to undo. The administration was surprised when Russian President Vladimir Putin

The dog days of summer are upon us, and with them, an extended slowdown in politics — as Americans spend their time working on their tans rather than studying up on the latest fights in the nation’s capital. Things won’t pick up in earnest again until after Labor Day, when the political campaigning reemerges in full force. As we head into this break, it’s worth pausing to review and figure out exactly what we’ve learned about the American political landscape — as it relates to the 2014 midterm and 2016 presidential elections, the hopes (or lack thereof) for legislative accomplishments,

GAZA CITY — Tens of thousands of panicked residents fled their homes in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday after the Israeli military dropped leaflets from the sky warning those who stayed behind that they were risking their lives because a large, intense operation was imminent. Until now, the politics of immigration have been seen as a no-lose proposition for President Obama and the Democrats. If they could get a comprehensive overhaul passed, they would win. And if Republicans blocked it, the GOP would further alienate crucial Hispanic and moderate voters. But with the current crisis on the Southwest border, where authorities have apprehended tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central American children since October, that calculus may be shifting. Republicans and even some Democrats have accused Obama of being insufficiently engaged in a calamity that many say he should have seen coming.
