Matt Bevin defends going
to cockfighting rally

Courier-Journal [Louisville, KY], by Joseph Gerth & James R. Carroll

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 4/6/2014 7:20:55 AM

U.S. Senate candidate Matt Bevin spent the week defending his decision last weekend to attend an event in Corbin, Ky., that most attendees knew was a rally to legalize cockfighting in Kentucky. Bevin has said he didn´t know it was a rally supporting cockfighting and thought it was a "state´s rights" rally. After ducking other calls for comment, Bevin went on WHAS radio´s "Terry Meiners Show" on Thursday to talk about the rally, cockfighting and other things. "I´ve never been to a cockfight, I don´t condone cockfighting, but here´s the thing: I´m not going to disparage people for exercising their First Amendment rights,"

Comments:
Unforced errors kill a candidate, once again.

The liberal media bias is stunning! The headline implies there was cockfighting at the rally, and in the article cockfighting is described in detail and then they erroneously state that Bevin defended cockfighting. He did not. He clearly stated it is not a federal government issue. That is a true statement. Cockfighting is clearly a 10th amendment issue.

The libtards in our media desperately want McConnell to win. That tells a story right there!

This why it is so difficult for me to support Tea Party candidates: they look good, sound good, say all the right things we Conservatives want to hear, and then they go and step in it with something so dumb but so avoidable and blow a potential win. Cockfighting? Really? Whoever scheduled that should have been immediately fired followed by Bevin doing a huge mea culpa. Instead he foolishly attempts to defend the action and digs his political grave in the process. Good thing it happened in the primaries and not in the general.

Another reason why primary challenges should be reserved only for the worst cases.

So when this Bevin loses the primary by about 2-1, will he support McConnell or grandstand and screw around? Any bluegrass L-Dotters have an idea?

I am shocked at the first 9 posts and ask HOW many of you have closely followed Matt Bevin and this race?
He is a wonderful man and smart as hell, a fighter, a young TURK like Lee and Cruz and Paul. Military past, self made man, 9 children (including a few adopted from Africa).
While he was attending this meeting, Fruit of the Loom announced they are closing their doors, and 600 Kentucky jobs are gone.
Where was Mitch McConnell?
Is negativity contagious posters?

Sorry, Bevin supporters. This has zero to do with Mitch McConnell, except it appears McConnell is lucky with his challengers. This was a dumb error of judgement on the part of Bevin and his staffers.

The Humane Society is demanding Bevin´s withdrawal from the race. Cockfighting is brutal, bloody and fatal to the losers. How can anyone show up at a rally for those who support it?

Bevin may very well be a wonderful man and smart as hell, but a political blind spot is what it is. And is this the race for him to be running, with control of the Senate hanging in the balance? No conservative goal can be reached without a majority.

I´m a Matt Bevin supporter, wasn´t happy to read about this last week, but Matt was interviewed on Mark Levin´s show Friday night and sounded tremendous. He´s one of 6 children and has 9 of his own with his wife, 4 of whom were adopted from Ethiopia. Mr. Levin said McConnell is welcome to come on the show if he so desires. Mitch McConnell shouldn´t be rewarded for 29 years of starving US taxpayers and real problems of needed money while enriching global warming profiteers. McConnell has had daily access to a microphone for 29+ years. He could´ve had AGW laughed into oblivion decades ago but he chose not to. George Bush #1 mandated in 1990 that CO2 was a pollutant. McConnell could´ve addressed that major mistake and reversed the course of history but chose not to. He still refuses to address the science that clearly proves CO2 doesn´t cause warming. Or even that China controls global CO2. He changes the subject to jobs. He more than anyone in the country has shepherded global warming fraud from zero to the $1 billion+ a day industry it is today. He signed Bush´s 2007 so-called energy bill which reads like George Soros wrote it and turns the US over to the AGW industry including expanding murderous ethanol--everyone today knows ethanol is murder. The UN and World Bank have asked the US to stop it and the US won´t. McConnell even approved giving the EPA control over a non-public commodity trading market that´s riddled with fraud and increased gas prices at the pump further strangling this country. 30 years of expanding George Soros´ number one cause is more than enough. McConnell will lose to Grimes in the general anyway.

It was my understanding that their were 4 or 5 contenders in the primary. The classic MSM tactic is to focus on any mistake as a way of excluding any coverage of the others. In John Cornyn´s race they focused on loony action of Stockman and ignored the other candidates.

McConnell as majority leader will be no better than Harry Reid, except McConnell will rollover for the democrats, while Reid rides roughshod over Republicans.
Both are career politicians who would stab their own party members in their backs.
McConnell and McCain vs Cruz for example.

If you think this has nothing to do with McConnell, I have a bridge I want to sell you.

The story originated from the AP. The pajama boy reporters at the AP wouldn´t be caught dead at any event related to cockfighting, even one where no fighting took place. This story was handed to the AP, and there is only one person with a vested interest in making it public during the primary season.

The Dems would have waited until the general election.

The organizers of the rally told interviewers
that there was " never any ambiguity" about the purpose of the event, which was to rally support for changing laws that outlaw cockfighting.
So , again Bevin looks like a liar or extremely naive.
700 people attend a rally and there wasn´t a single sign supporting their cause ?
What did he think was the purpose of the rally ?
Bevin then dug himself a deeper hole.
Cockfighting is banned in all 50 states.
Bevin defended cockfighting and dogfighting.
" He then went on to defend the sport,.."
Bevin said the Founding Fathers engaged in cockfighting and that it was part of our national heritage.
FTA -"You look at cockfighting and dog fighting as well, this isn´t something new, it wasn´t invented in Kentucky for example,"
he said. "I mean the founding fathers were all, many of them, very actively involved in this
and always have been.
These things are part of a tradition and a heritage that go back for hundreds of years
and were very integral early on in this country."
Where does DeMint find these people ?
Milton Wolf posts grotesque patient x rays on Facebook and Bevin supports animal cruelty.

I liked it better when you were keening over the "mistreatment" of L´Wren Scott rather than postimg as article which is critical of a Tea Party candidate.

Judging from the "lynch mob" responses of some folks here, Matt Bevin will be hounded incessantly for his attendance at that rally. [You do remember "Macaca" don´t you? Ah, I thought you would.]

I didn´t see where Matt Bevin was in favor of cockfighting. Indeed, to do so would be acting against the prevailing cultural surge. For example...

Defending a new law to ban halal and kosher slaughter, a Danish Minister said this, "Animal rights come before religion.” [Yeah, we´ve come a long way, baby.]

P.S. I´ll be sending some $$$ to Bevin´s campain today. I hate to see anyone "Eiched."

We must keep all the incumbents in place until we find someone perfect in every way. I remind you that Our Lord Jesus Christ was accused of many faults during his public ministry. Even when the candidate IS perfect he will not be credited with being perfect. Since then nobody is perfect but the standard is to compare him with the do nothing incumbent who refuses to confront Obama and gave him more than a simple increase in the debt ceiling but a blank cheque for a full year because he is so desperate to avoid these debt ceiling confrontations. If you are looking for the perfect candidate you won´t recognize one if they did come along and support the devil himself because nothing embarrassing will ever by told about him!

#24, a long recitation of one´s take on "the facts" is not useful in this instance. Bevin has been consistently running way behind McConnell, and now he has stupidly gotten himself branded as the "cruelty to animals" candidate. He´s finished. And if Grimes is elected the litany of damning facts and wrongheaded votes we´ll be able to assemble by the end of her first term will dwarf all the complaints - some real, some fanciful - about McConnell. And by then Bevin´s name will barely amount to the answer to a trivia question, no matter how great he sounded on some radio show many years earlier.

So, do we get real and help out McConnell (while grooming a solid successor) or follow a path which leaves the Marxocrats in charge. I´ll go with the former.

The tens of thousands of Central Americans who have crossed America’s porous borders over the last year came on the assumption that once on U.S. soil they would never have to return to their countries. The instigators of this influx correctly viewed Obama’s de facto support for amnesty as a flashing green light. After all, how seriously were they going to take U.S. immigration law under a president who treated border security as a punch line to a joke? In 2011, Obama loudly mocked conservatives, the very ones who foresaw today’s mushrooming crisis, as malcontents crying wolf about a vulnerable border. “You

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the
