White House to Post Ambassador
Nominee Qualifications Online

ABC News, by Al Weinberg

Original Article

The Obama administration will start posting proof of their ambassadorial nominees’ competency online in an effort to stanch criticism that their political appointees are not qualified to represent the United States abroad. The change in policy, which was announced by the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA)today, comes months after a slate of confirmation hearings in which nominees appeared to have little understanding of the political and cultural dynamics of the countries to which they were being sent. The string of recent diplomatic gaffes highlighted the decades old practice of presidents rewarding big bucks backers with diplomatic posts. The goofs began when hotelier

“In the coming days, our team will look into the irregularities to determine whether a challenge is warranted,” McDaniel, 41, said of the allegations. “After we’ve examined the data, we will make a decision about whether and how to proceed.”… Steffey, a professor of election law at Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, detailed the barriers McDaniel would have to go through in order to claim victory, noting he would have to identify a “systemic problem so pervasive as to have the entire election thrown out,” something he believes is without precedent… There were poll observers on the ground, but Steffey

Inside the Other Bergdahl Negotiations

While the U.S. government was negotiating with Taliban representatives on the controversial prisoner swap that set Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl free, Bergdahl’s family opened up a separate channel to the Taliban to try to buy his freedom with cash, according to two sources with knowledge of the case. This channel of negotiations has not been previously reported. It was focused on winning Bergdahl’s freedom with a $10 million ransom to be paid by private sources, not U.S. government money, the sources say. These talks started in 2012 and continued until May 2014. The revelation of this second set of negotiations underscores two points:

I’m 41 years old, which doesn’t feel that old to me (most days), but history is short. With the exception of those trapped behind the Iron Curtain, the world as I have known it has been remarkably free and prosperous, and it is getting more free and more prosperous. But it is also a fact that, within my lifetime, there have been dictatorships in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Poland, India, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, South Korea, and half of Germany — and lots of other places, too, to be sure, but you sort of expect them in Cameroon and Russia. The news was filled last week with breathless headlines: “Scott Walker part of ‘criminal scheme,’” declared The Washington Post. The Milwaukee (Wisconsin) Journal Sentinel, which is intimately familiar with the facts of this case, nonetheless headlined “John Doe prosecutors allege Scott Walker at center of ‘criminal scheme.’” The New York Times, all the networks, CNN, MSNBC, Time.com and all the other usual suspects chimed in with a deafening cacophony of alarm, using the same “Walker at center of criminal scheme” headlines. Even Forbes took the bait. In a year saturated with false, misleading or downright fraudulent misreporting from the left-wing

The talk about Republicans impeaching
President Obama is a Democratic fantasy
Washington Post, by Ed Rogers    Original Article

All the talk about impeaching President Obama is crazy. Notice that most of the commentary about impeachment actually comes from Democrats, not Republicans. Forget about whether or not there might theoretically be a technically valid legal case for impeachment; it won’t happen. But the usual suspects on the left would like for Republicans to try. It is in the Obama forces’ best interest to pretend that the Republicans might really try to impeach the president. It is easier for them to motivate their base when it appears they are dealing with a dangerous, reckless foe. The fact that a few

President Obama prides himself on having taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago. So he must be smarting from this week’s Supreme Court decision saying he doesn’t understand a president’s recess powers under the Constitution. The high court slapped the president hard over what it said were his illegal recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board in 2012. And it wasn’t just the court’s conservatives: This was a 9-0 decision. The Constitution empowers the president to unilaterally fill high-level vacancies when Congress is in recess. Both parties have used the power when their appointments were blocked on Capitol Hill. But Obama

IT Trade Association Questions Whether

Weekly Standard, by Jim Swift    Original Article

Were Lois Lerner’s allegedly lost emails actually destroyed? An Ohio-based trade association, the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), isn’t so sure, and they don’t find IRS commissioner Koskinen’s explanation of their loss very plausible. IAITAM administers internationally accepted certifications for information technology professionals. According to the group’s standards, if Lerner’s supposedly malfunctioning hardware was properly destroyed, there would be records of it. Dr. Barbara Rembiesa, president of IAITAM, questions whether there is documentation of the destruction of the files. Who performed the work, says Rembiesa, is important because not all IT professionals are IAITAM certified. “The notion

A nightmare for Affordable Care Act supporters has been the possibility that only the sick would be left to purchase insurance through its exchanges, driving premiums up and insurers out. While the law’s boosters have been quick to dismiss the possibility that such a so-called death spiral could occur, data published in the Wall Street Journal suggest that this chain of events may not be so far-fetched after all. The findings are significant not just for what they say about how Obamacare is working now, but also for their impact on the political debate over its future. At its base, the data

On January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama assumed the presidency, the overwhelming majority of African-Americans cheered and prayed for him. His inauguration was a signal moment in black history, reminiscent of the celebrations that accompanied the Emancipation Proclamation, Joe Louis’ victory over Max Schmeling and the March on Washington. Irma Brown-Williams traveled to the inauguration from Tuskegee, Alabama, wearing a coat on which she had pinned photos of her mother, father and siblings, all of whom were deceased. Asked to explain, she said, “I’m here for them. … They could not be here, so I brought them with me.” Against

The evening of election day, which I spent at Toomey´s “victory” party outside Allentown, was a difficult one. Driving up from Washington, I had heard Specter´s radio ads accusing Toomey of voting to help pornographers - a charge based on some obscure House vote that did no such thing. The caliphate – an Islamic state with a single political and religious leader, ruled by a would-be successor to Mohammed – seems to be back in fashion. The institution is a millennium old, though the last caliphate was abolished in 1924, when the secular republic of Turkey snuffed out the final vestiges of the Ottoman Empire. A century on, the Iraqi jihadist group Isis wants to resurrect the caliphate across the Fertile Crescent, that beautiful but war-studded arc of land stretching from the Red Sea to the Persian Gulf. Medieval aims, through modern means. Can they do it? Their ambitions can’t

The former sexting pol has been noticeably absent at recent public events attended by Abedin, including the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner in Manhattan earlier this month. Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) In 1996, while at the FEC, Lois Lerner harassed Republican Senate candidate Al Salvi and made him this outrageous offer, “Promise me you will never run for office again, and

Ordinarily, President Obama’s days are planned out to the smallest detail. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.

Decades of socialist/progressive indoctrination in our schools, media, and culture, plus six years of Obama, have yielded a devastating unspoken consequence. It is the loss of who we use to be as Americans. In his 1961 Inaugural Address, President John F. Kennedy said, “My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Democrats have perverted Kennedy´s inspiring challenge. Their dispiriting goal is to have as many Americans as possible controlled by and dependent on government, even for life itself, which is at the root of ObamaCare.
