Want to see some of George W.

How has former president George W. Bush been spending his time out of office? By painting, of course. We´ve long known of Bush´s exploration of his artistic side. But now we get to see the results. Bush is unveiling more than two dozen portraits of world leaders for an exhibit called "The Art of Leadership: A President´s Personal Diplomacy" at Southern Methodist University. Of his painting, Bush told his daughter Jenna Bush Hager: "There’s a Rembrandt trapped in this body." While neither SMU nor the Bush library will release close-ups of all of the portraits (booooo!), they did send us

Actually, and I speak as a fellow intermediate artist, Bush has a gift for capturing a recognizable face...if you´ve never done portraiture you have no clue how difficult it is! His style is not one I like, but he is artistic, and I´m amazed....many facets to this guy.

Am I the only one that misses having integrity and class in the White House? I am so tired of Michelle´s classless act, and her constant need to treat herself to so many expensive, lavish, and luxurious vacations.

Reading the comments after the article, I´m somewhat struck by the continued BDS that boils in his detractors. It never occurs to some that all presidents must deal with weighty issues and not every action a president takes is perfect, or even correct at times. But no matter what Bush bad decisions made, and there were some, I never EVER got the impression Bush hated his country and would sacrifice it for the sake of some despotic foreign country to look more favorably upon us. Or would dismantle us from within to cater and pander to the lower rungs of our own society, rather than increase the opportunities for them to better help themselves to higher levels. Or to force us like lemmings over a fiscal cliff of unlikely return, as our current POTUS has done. No, Bush would not have done that. I despise Obama and everything he stands for, and I LOATHE every single one of those who support him.

I appreciate those with a trained eye giving non-artists (like me) a favorable opinion of these paintings. I just like the way our former President handles that paintbrush. The WA PO just can´t resist snark, however.

I second #1 and #6. I confine myself to pencil, pen and ink. That´s hard enough without throwing in color and texture in the mix.
To my eye all the portraits are recognizable but obviously not as polished and true to life as Norman Rockwell´s painting of Richard Nixon.

As was said above let´s see what snarky Chris Sillizia can produce...then we´ll talk.

Immigrant-rights activists have set up water stations, gone out nearly daily to find border crossers in distress, and circulated warning posters and maps of the locations of those who have died in the desert. (Snip) Now Robin Hoover, founder and former member of the local group Humane Borders, is planning to distribute 100 high-intensity flashlights. Hoover will work today with a local church in Altar, Sonora, 115 miles southwest of Tucson and one of the last staging areas for would-be border crossers, to pass out the $8.32 flashlights that can illuminate a tree a half-mile away and include both a strobe

American composer-conductor John Williams, 82, is set to debut a new arrangement of The Star-Spangled Banner for Independence Day. It will feature choirs, trumpets, an orchestra and cannons on the National Mall in Washington D.C. for the nation´s birthday. Usually a soloist performs the national anthem for the annual ´Capitol Fourth´ celebration in Washington. But this year, the acclaimed composer will lead the National Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, the Joint Armed Forces Chorus and the Choral Arts Society of Washington in performing a special new arrangement. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the national anthem.

New documents filed by the U.S. Justice Department against Libyan militant Ahmed Abu Khatallah further shut down claims made by the Obama administration that the Benghazi attack sprouted from from an anti-islam film. The documents come after recent comments made by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that some of the attackers may have been influenced by the online video. The court filings make clear those who organized the attack were part of a ´conspiracy´ involving several members of the Ansar al-Sharia ´Islamic extremist militia´, reports Fox News. The government are trying to ensure Khatallah remains behind bars.

Washington - Celebrating the ethnic diversity of America, President Barack Obama said more than two dozen foreign-born service members who became U.S. citizens at the White House on the Fourth of July are vivid reminders that welcoming immigrants "is central to our way of life." He pleaded anew for new immigration policies, saying the vast range of backgrounds and experiences that has made America a melting pot for more than 200 years also makes the country stronger. He argued that the system must be retooled for the U.S. to remain the greatest nation on earth. "The basic idea of welcoming

I grew up listening to Paul Harvey on the radio. I didn’t always find him, but somehow, he always had a way of finding me. I’d usually be driving back from a business trip and inevitably, I’d tune in to some obscure station – and there he was. Loved it. I also loved his resoluteness – particularly when it came to the principles and values for which he so deeply cared. Regardless of which direction the political winds blew, Paul Harvey stood steadfast for the beliefs he held dear and his unwavering love of country. To Paul, America really was

Americans hardly need an excuse to display the flag, but few occasions bring the red, white and blue out in fuller force than our national birthday. Jeane Kirkpatrick once said, “Americans need to face the truth about themselves, no matter how pleasant it is.” The truth is that the United States is an exceptional nation: It’s the world’s oldest and most stable capitalist democracy, older even than Great Britain, which did not become a mass democracy until the late 19th century. It’s the first nation founded in an act of rebellion against a colonial power. It’s the first nation founded

His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt. "Every student in this country needs some higher education, whether that´s two-year degree, a four-year degree, or professional training of some sort." Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. They, in turn, made her an honorary school counselor.
