New York Times, by Jodi Rudoren

JERUSALEM — Officials involved in the fraught Israeli-Palestinian peace talks said on Tuesday that an agreement was near on extending the negotiations through 2015 in exchange for the release of Jonathan J. Pollard, an American serving a life sentence for spying for Israel. The agreement would also include the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, including citizens of Israel, and a partial freeze on construction in West Bank settlements. Secretary of State John Kerry and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel hammered out details of the emerging deal in meetings here that began Monday night and continued early on Tuesday.

Why is our government even entertaining the notion of giving up a traitor like Jonathan Pollard in the naive hope of securing some harebrained Middle East peace deal that can´t possibly work??? What´s next, releasing the entire Walker spy ring to Putin in exchange for the pathetic hope of saving Ukraine??? Then what???

How will the release of Pollard affect
peace between the Palestinians and Israel?
The Palestinians could care less.

The only way peace will be achieved is
when one side pushes the other side
into the Mediterranean.

Americans are in a period of amazingly negative thinking about the state of our country. A recent Gallup analysis drove home how deep and how threatening the current mood is. Gallup asked Americans in early June how much confidence they had in our nation´s institutions. The answer: not much. Only 30% had "a great deal" or "quite a lot of confidence" in the Supreme Court. Just 29% felt that way about the presidency. And an abysmal 7% had faith in the Congress. Think about what this means. Our most trusted national institution, the unelected Supreme Court, has the confidence of

This Quinnipiac poll, released today, is getting a lot of press. Understandably so: Quinnipiac polled 1,446 registered voters nationwide, and a plurality of 33% tagged Barack Obama as the worst president since World War II. Such historical ratings are always biased toward the recent past, of course; 28% said George W. Bush was the worst. In a head-to-head comparison with Bush, 40% say Obama is worse, while 39% think Obama is better than his immediate predecessor. In a re-run of the 2012 election, 45% now say the country would be better off if Mitt Romney were president, while 38% think

In a couple of days, Americans will fire off fireworks, drink beer, grill meats and celebrate the Fourth of July — America’s birthday. What is the Fourth of July all about? It’s not the date on which the United States actually won its freedom. It’s Independence Day, right? But independence from whom? Fourth of July is the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the document in which the United States of America declared itself independent from King George III and the Britain that he ruled. Prior to that, we were British colonies. The Declaration of Independence declares America’s

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has 59,297 employees – 17.3 percent out of 342,089 workers total -- that make $100,000 or more in yearly salary, according to data from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Among those employees, 18,709 of them earn a salary of $180,000 or more. An OPM database, FedScope, contains historical data on the federal civilian workforce going back to 1998. The database holds information about civilian federal workers employed by most Executive Branch agencies (excluding intelligence agencies, the White House, and the Office of the Vice President) and some Legislative Branch agencies. What music comes to mind when you think of America and Independence Day? “The Battle Hymn of the Republic?” A John Phillip Souza march? Glenn Miller or the Andrews Sisters? Outside of country, there isn’t much music being made about America anymore. Oh, pop music is still filled with references. America’s favorite problem child, Miley Cyrus, turns up in nearly every 4th of July playlist with “Party In The U.S.A.” and Katy Perry’s “Firework” has also become an Independence Day party anthem. But Cyrus’ song mentions nothing American, except the “fame excess” of Hollywood. “Firework” just uses the 4th of

A federal consumer protection agency is spending more money per square foot to renovate its Washington D.C. headquarters than it cost to build the Trump World Tower or Las Vegas’s Bellagio Hotel — and the project’s budget continues to grow. That’s the House Financial Services Committee interpretation of a Federal Reserve’s Office of the Inspector General report that found that the cost to renovate the headquarters for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is now estimated to be $215.8 million. That is a significant increase from 2010´s initial cost estimate of $55 million and double last year’s upwardly revised estimate

The ruling was made by Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Robinson, who also told Khatallah’s court-appointed lawyers that they reserve the right to revisit the issue. A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.

Megyn Kelly faced off with former Weather Underground leader Bill Ayers in an explosive interview tonight in which Kelly repeatedly confronted Ayers about bombings and killings that the radical group was reportedly involved in. Kelly asked Ayers how many bombings he was personally responsible for. Ayers declined to answer, but did acknowledge the “terrible risk” they took with some of their more out-there tactics. Kelly grilled him on how the Weather Underground “declared a state of war against the U.S. government” and encouraged violence. Kelly went through a series of instances in which the Weather Underground was tied to bombings and killings,

A crowd of 300 angry protestors forced three buses carrying 140 undocumented migrant children and their parents to turn around in Murrieta, California, on Tuesday after they blocked the road. The dramatic confrontation between the flag waving protestors and the Homeland Security buses came one day after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to resist the federal government´s plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Holding up banners that said ´Return to Sender´ and suggesting the children should be sent to the White House instead, the irate protestors succeeded when the buses

Today, the Supreme Court ruled in the nationally followed Hobby Lobby case. The for-profit corporations that brought these cases to the Supreme Court—a craft store and a cabinet manufacturer—argued that the corporations’ religious convictions should excuse them from compensating their employees through the comprehensive health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers sought to exclude insurance coverage of several forms of birth control because, contrary to medical and scientific evidence, the corporations’ owners believe some birth control causes abortions. The Affordable Care Act already includes special arrangements for houses of worship and religious non-profits, like schools and hospitals. Houses

According to AZ Central, McCain dismissed criticism over the tactics the Republican Establishment used to get black Democrats to cross over and vote for Cochran. Said McCain, "There are some people complaining that African-American voters voted. [But] I thought one of the major priorities of the Republican Party was to get all minority and ethnic voters out to vote for Republicans." He described Cochran´s "get-out-the-vote campaign"

The Israeli Defense Forces said the strikes were in response to rockets being launched earlier into Israel from Gaza. The waves of rockets from Gaza and IDF retaliations have picked up since the teens were kidnapped and the Israeli crackdown began. Hamas has not claimed responsibility for launching the rockets but Israel holds them responsible for everything coming out of Gaza. The Israel Defense

The public largely blames President Obama for the flood of children who have poured over the border in recent weeks, creating a growing humanitarian crisis, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll released Monday. The late June survey found that the public largely blames Obama policies for the crisis in Iraq and believes the lost IRS emails are an administration effort to cover up wrongdoing at the agency. The poll found that 59% of those closely following the immigration crisis agree that "current administration policies and lack of focus on securing the border" are behind the human tide of illegal crossings.
