Why is Obama administration
blocking Detroit River bridge?

Washington Examiner [DC], by Michael Barone

Original Article

Why isn´t the Obama administration willing to finance the customs plaza for the new international bridge over the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario? That´s a question raised by this article in the Wall Street Journal. As the Journal notes, the government of Canada has agreed to pay, as part of a public-private partnership, about $3.65 billion for building the bridge, including a $550 million link with Interstate 75 in Detroit. The new bridge would provide an alternative for the privately owned Ambassador Bridge, which was opened in 1929. Yet the Obama administration isn´t ponying up $250 million to build

Seems another billionaire Obama Crony Capitalist Matty Maroun is blocking economic development in both Beleagured Detroit and Canada just like Buffett is profiting from blocking Keystone to profit his a Railroad.
250 million is chump change for this anti- American administration.
Time for entire Michigan delegation to demand PUBLIC bridge be built and Obamas cronies told to pound sand.

Why do you even have to ask?
There is no doubt in my mind that the private owner of the existing bridge, Maroun, has paid off Obama via campaign contributions and bundling.
It´s Chicago rules.

That´s such as easy question to answer. Matty Maroun is a big dem. donor and our governor and state legislature is republican. Chicago rules indeed.

This was on the ballot last November. Moroun spent millions promoting a constitutional amendment that would have required a statewide vote, as well as the approval of each municipality where the bridge would be located, before state money could be spent to build any international bridge/tunnel project (Proposal 6). He wanted to build and control another private bridge.

He had an agreement with the UAW that if they would support his gambit, he would support their attempt (Proposal 2) to enshrine public and private collective bargaining rights through labor unions into the state constitution.

Both were defeated in the election, and the bridge may proceed.

When the GOP takes the Senate

Conventional wisdom is clear that the next Congress has a considerable likelihood of being a Republican Congress. That same consensus also holds that if the GOP does indeed take control, the next two years will be marked by confrontation with the White House and even less actual legislative action than the present Congress has accomplished. To be fair, there is some compelling logic behind these conclusions. President Obama has clearly opted out of the role of governing through legislation. He has become the most defensive president since at least World War II, blaming the Congress not just for all the ills of the

When former CalPERS CEO Fred Buenrostro was charged more than a year ago by both federal and state officials with fraud and obstruction of justice charges, something didn’t seem right. The allegations focused on how Buenrostro had forged documents to help placement agent pal Alfred Villalobos get paid by some of his private equity clients, but there was no mention of Buenrostro personally benefiting (beyond a $300k per year job with Villalobos upon retirement from CalPERS). Not was there any evidence that Buenrostro improperly influenced investment decisions at CalPERS.

The rate of Alzheimer´s disease and other dementias is falling in the United States and some other rich countries - good news about an epidemic that is still growing simply because more people are living to an old age, new studies show. An American over age 60 today has a 44 percent lower chance of developing dementia than a similar-aged person did roughly 30 years ago, the longest study of these trends in the U.S. concluded. Dementia rates also are down in Germany, a study there found. "For an individual, the actual risk of dementia seems to have declined," probably due to more

Many have parsed what President Barack Obama’s critics mean when they charge that the handling of the crisis on America’s southern border is “Obama’s Katrina.” The president’s supporters are quick to note that this comparison is misleading and unfair. Hurricane Katrina drowned an entire urban center. American citizens died waiting for federal and state aid. Thousands of Americans, mostly of meager means, were trapped in a dying city. Some of them did not make it out alive waiting for their countrymen to save them. In that sobering moment, much of the promise of the United States was betrayed. It is

Political fallout from underage illegals may

The flood of underage--and many not-so-underage--illegal immigrants from the Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador crested in the Rio Grande Valley, but now the waters are being diverted and channeled to other parts of the United States. Well, maybe that metaphor is a bit labored, but my point is that these young and not-so-young people are being transported to various parts of the country, to be put under the care of relatives, we are told, though it´s not so clear that the caregivers are always relatives. The influx of children across our southern border is troubling. First, because they are not all children — not by a sight — but images of children are useful for stirring emotions to muddy the policy waters. Second, because it is not all that unusual: As the Wall Street Journal reports, between 23,000 and 47,000 minors illegally entered the United States and were apprehended in each of the past five years; in 2013, we ordered only 3,525 deportations, suggesting that something on the order of nine in ten, or more, of minor illegal aliens — again, of the number apprehended — are allowed to stay. The number not apprehended is very large,

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend. A growing number of our fellow Americans have taken on grotesque features, in looks and sounds, in reaction to the thousands of children from Central America who have crossed our borders as they flee poverty and violence in hope for something better.
