Friends, family of Wilson
say a private goodbye to a
football patriarch

Buffalo News, by Mark Gaughan

DETROIT – The funeral for Ralph C. Wilson Jr. was a relatively small, private affair Saturday, but the Buffalo Bills said the passion of the Western New York fan base was felt. “I just want to offer thanks on behalf of the Wilson family – Mary Wilson and his daughters, Christie and Dee Dee – and the entire organization and family,” said Bills President and Chief Executive Officer Russ Brandon. “The outpouring of support from our fans, our community and our region has been overwhelming.” Family, friends and several National Football League dignitaries paid their last respects to Wilson

Comments:
Whether you´re a Buffalo Bills fan or follow another team, Ralph Wilson - the last of the AFL founders and the only owner the Bills have known - is owed a debt of gratitude for shepherding the AFL-NFL merger and thus helping make pro football the popular sport it is today.

First lady Michelle Obama took her campaign to help veterans find jobs to Fort Campbell, Ky.., Wednesday where she said that most Americans don´t know much about the military. Following comments from Jill Biden, the vice president´s wife and Obama´s teammate in helping veterans, she noted that unlike Biden, she had little familiarity with the military prior to campaigning for the White House in 2008. “Unlike Jill, I wasn´t a military mom. I wasn´t a Blue Star family member. I didn´t know much about the military, and I was probably more like the average American,” said Obama.

A prominent Japanese politician has raised hackles as Barack Obama visits Tokyo by claiming it´s an ´open secret´ that he and the first lady are headed for divorce, and that the president has been using Secret Service agents to cover for him as he pursues extramarital affairs. Kazuyuki Hamada, who sits in the upper house of Japan´s parliament, earned his PhD a half-mile from the White House at George Washington University, and emerged as a shrill commentator on America´s economy and foreign policy. In 2009 he also joined the ranks of the so-called ´birthers,´ arguing in a book titled ´Who is Obama?´

Jeb Bush said Wednesday he´s "thinking about running for president," in his most direct statement yet about a possible 2016 run. The former Florida governor spoke at a Catholic school benefit in New York Wednesday morning. He previously has said he´ll make a decision on whether to run for president before the end of this year, making clear that he was considering the possibility. But his comments on Wednesday appeared to be more direct. Asked what his "immediate plans" were, he said, according to an attendee: "I´m thinking about running for president." The answer was met with applause and a standing ovation, after

Anyone expecting rancher Cliven Bundy to apologize at a news briefing Thursday for widely condemned remarks — that black people were “happier” during the slavery era than now — would be disappointed. Wearing his signature cowboy hat, Bundy, who led an armed confrontation with federal rangers over a land dispute and was then hailed as a patriot by Fox News’ Sean Hannity and other conservatives, repeated in Bunkerville, Nevada, what he had said earlier — he was “just wondering” if blacks were better off under slavery. In advance of President Obama’s four-nation Asian tour this week, the Washington Post published an article saying this: President Obama’s bid to focus U.S. attention on Asia has failed to meet the lofty expectations he set three years ago in a grand pronouncement that the new emphasis would become a pillar of his foreign policy. [Snip] By now, nearly five and a half years into the Obama presidency, objective people can draw reasonable conclusions, among which are these: Barack Obama was among the least prepared men to ever serve as presidency. It shows. He has been overmatched by events right from the start.

At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list. The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources. For six months, CNN has been reporting on extended delays in health care appointments suffered by veterans across the country and who died while waiting for appointments and care.

MADISON TOWNSHIP House Speaker John Boehner theatrically mocked his fellow Republican Congressmen for being afraid to reform immigration policy when he spoke Thursday before the Middletown Rotary Club in his home district. "Here´s the attitude. Ohhhh. Don´t make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard," Boehner whined before a luncheon crowd at Brown´s Run County Club in Madison Township. "We get elected to make choices. We get elected to solve problems and it´s remarkable to me how many of my colleagues just don´t want to ... They´ll take the path of least resistance." Boehner said he´s been working for 16 or 17

First lady Michelle Obama is scrapping her plans to deliver a graduation speech for high school seniors in Topeka, Kan., after hundreds signed a petition in protest. Instead of delivering a graduation speech, Obama will speak before the school district the day before graduation, and will deliver remarks at a "Senior Recognition Day." More than 1,750 people had signed a petition protesting the first lady´s appearance at the graduation ceremony, angered that security concerns would limit the number of friends and family who could attend. According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, students would have only been allotted six tickets apiece had

George Clooney has confessed to calling Las Vegas gambling mogul Steve Wynn an ´a**hole´ and storming off at a recent dinner because the casino-owner insulted President Barack Obama. The verbal assault occurred two weeks ago when the two-time Oscar winner was in Vegas promoting his Casamigos tequila, and was invited to dine with Wynn and his wife, Andrea Hissom, at the fancy Botero restaurant inside the 72-year-old´s Encore hotel. But when dinner was finished, the conversation turned to Obama´s Affordable Care Act, of which Wynn is a vocal opponent. That´s when sparks began to fly. Clooney immediately took exception to how the billionaire

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul said voter fraud should stop, but suggested that Republicans have overemphasized the problem in an interview with David Axelrod Tuesday. “Dead people do still vote in some elections. There still is some fraud. And so we should stop that, and one way of doing it is (driver’s licenses).” Paul said, according to a Washington Post transcript. “Although the incidence of fraud is relatively small,” Axelrod responded. “It probably is, and I think Republicans may have overemphasized this. I don’t know,” Paul responded. According to the Post, Paul noted that he does support voter ID but unlike some Republicans, who
