Party of the rich: In Congress,
it´s the Democrats

Associated Press, by Stephen Ohlemacher

WASHINGTON — Republicans are the party of the rich, right? It´s a label that has stuck for decades, and you´re hearing it again as Democrats complain about GOP opposition to raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment benefits. But in Congress, the wealthiest among us are more likely to be represented by a Democrat than a Republican. Of the 10 richest House districts, only two have Republican congressmen. Democrats claim the top six, sprinkled along the East and West coasts. Most are in overwhelmingly Democratic states like New York and California.

Comments:
Based on 2012 personal finance disclosure information, seven of the ten richest members of Congress are Democrats. They are: Mark Warner, Jared Polis, John K. Delaney, Scott Peters, Richard Blumenthal, Jay Rockefeller, Nancy Pelosi

Is anyone else noticing an emerging animus in the MSM for democrats? Pardon my skepticism, but could this an election strategy so that when we complain in Sept and Oct, they can include recent reporting in their statistics?

Did any of those elitists actually earn their wealth by their own efforts or was it inherited or gained through political influence and favoritism?

I´ve observed that there are three sorts of people who tend to migrate toward the Democrat party: Those, as this article points out, who are wealthy enough to afford its excesses; those of modest mental means who don´t know much about politics or economics, but think "progressive" is a synonym for "hip" or "intellectual"; operatives employed the grievance industry, and its clients who expect something for nothing.

The democrat party is a coalition of groups that consider themselves victims of society. They are basically anti-social and demand special consideration for their issues. They will die angry and full of hate.

History enlightens. Great advances in wealth creation occurred post-Civil War among our small entrepreneurial class as well as middle class labor. The beneficiary was the secular progressive GOP (never a traditional conservative party) as we migrated from an agrarian to an industrial based economy.
As a result, the R´s held the political advantage all through the Gilded Age. Then in 1909, TR grasped what Disraeli in England and Von Bismarck in Prussia had understood earlier; political power was shifting from the Capitalists to non-Socialist Labor. Hence TR allied w/Gompers of the AFL to bring the trade unions into the Republican Party but Taft and the WS Gang opposed it. This was the essence of the Bull Moose fight in 1912 which TR lost. The results were fateful for the GOP, as it has been labeled the party of Big Business, ever since. Then in ´32, FDR embraced the labor unions and the D´s has never looked back. Today the GOP is a carcass awaiting burial. Labor, its natural constituency, is firmly in the D´s pocket as well as WS, whose eternal interest is in looking out for their own interests. Who are today´s rich? Why the Hollywood and Celebrity Gang, the Corporate CEO Gang, the Venture Capitalist Gang etc; all major contributors to the D´s. Why? Because the rich was to stay rich and get richer. And the D´s are happy to do their bidding.

New York (Reuters Health) – Office workers who spend long hours looking at computer screens have changes in their tear fluid similar to people with the disease known as dry eye, according to a study from Japan. The protein MUC5AC, secreted by cells in the upper eyelid, makes up part of the normally occurring mucus layer, or “tear film,” that keeps the eye moist. But study participants with the most screen time had MUC5AC levels nearing those of people with diagnosed dry eye. “To understand patients´ eye strain, which is one of major symptoms of dry eye disease, it is

Deep within the earth´s rocky mantle lies oceans´ worth of water locked up in a type of mineral called ringwoodite, new research shows. The results of the study will help scientists understand earth´s water cycle, and how plate tectonics moves water between the surface of the planet and interior reservoirs, researchers say. The Earth´s mantle is the hot, rocky layer between the planet´s core and crust. Scientists have long suspected that the mantle´s so-called transition zone, which sits between the upper and lower mantle layers 255 to 410 miles (410 to 660 kilometers) below Earth´s surface,

GRAFTON — Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” bears themes of justice and forgiveness amid creativity, and the inmates at Grafton Correctional Institution have spent several months creating their own rendition of the play. On June 5, the troupe debuted its performance before an audience of peers in preparation for a series of weekend performances for friends and family. Directed and adapted by retired Oberlin College professor Phyllis Gorfain, the production took about eight months to prepare. Gorfain, along with five Oberlin College students, worked with the 18 inmates three times a week to develop the play.

Do you remember the original robber barons? No, they were not the great American industrialists/philanthropists of the late 19th century—men who were unfairly tagged with the moniker. I mean the originals: the German barons of the 13th century who controlled the Rhine River, which was the primary channel of commerce and communications for central Europe. Their castles overlooked the river, and they exacted tribute from every passing ship. The barons ignored customary "just" tolls, charged whatever the commerce would bear, exacted payment "in kind" from cargoes, and exercised power by controlling strategic territory.

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim. President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. Screenwriter James Vanderbilt will make his directorial debut with the film, which will also star Cate Blanchett. Robert Redford has signed on to play Dan Rather in Truth, a film based on the 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power. The book, written by Rather´s producer Mary Mapes, centers on the firestorm that erupted in September of 2004 after Rather reported that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, a report that was based on documents that turned out to be forgeries.
