Exclusive: Photographs Expose
Russian-Trained Killers in Kiev

Daily Beast, by Jamie Dettmer

Kiev, Ukraine - The first crack of a sniper’s round in Kiev’s Independence Square came shortly after nine o’clock on the morning of February 20 and the last about seven hours later at around four o’clock in the afternoon drawing to a close the bloodiest day in what had been a months-long struggle to oust Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych. Many of the 53 people slain died from clean shots to the head or neck—telltale wounds inflicted by expert marksmen; while others were gunned down at closer quarters by less expert assassins armed with AK-47 assault rifles. Most of the photographs accompanying this article were taken on February 20,

Comments:
As stated before, I was somehow watching the events unfolding those two nights in February in Kiev because it was being televised live by UStream. You could clearly see the muzzle flashes and hear the loud crack of the weapons shooting into the crowd. There were loud flashes and explosions and a constant barrage of some explosive device being throw. Because of darkness, I couldn´t tell then who were the good guys or the police who went after them with water cannons. (The same sniper tactics are being used against protesters in Venezuela).

When 10-year-old Charlotte Bell was invited to the White House’s annual “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day,” she made sure not to let an opportunity to help her dad pass her by. During a question-and-answer session with Michelle Obama, Charlotte wasn’t interested in asking about the first lady’s favorite book or favorite sport — she was there to get her daddy a job. “My dad’s been out of a job for three years and I wanted to give you his resume,” said Charlotte, handing Mrs. Obama a copy. “Oh my goodness,” the first lady said, hugging the little girl, and then turning back to the audience. “Well, it’s a little private,

The Obama administration is poised to take over Oregon’s broken insurance exchange, according to officials familiar with the decision, who say that it reflects federal officials’ conclusion that several state-run marketplaces may be too dysfunctional to fix. In public, the board overseeing Cover Oregon is scheduled to vote Friday whether to join the federal insurance marketplace that already sells health plans in most of the country under the Affordable Care Act. Behind the scenes, the officials say, federal and Oregon officials already have privately agreed that closing down the system is the best path to rescue the state

Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that the United States shouldn’t impose harmful sanctions on Russia, as he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin “is not going to use military force” in eastern Ukraine. “So far, we have limited the sanctions to the leadership of Russia, and I think that is the proper approach,” he told the Agence France-Presse while in Paris for a discussion on climate change. “I don’t think we would go so far as to impose sanctions that would hurt the Russian people.” Mr. Carter argued that Russia’s takeover of Crimea was “inevitable” and that the West couldn’t have done anything “to prevent that

Israel has suspended its peace talks with the Palestinians in response to a unity deal between Hamas and Fatah. The decision came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chaired a six-hour meeting of Israel´s security cabinet. The Palestinian factions announced the reconciliation deal on Wednesday, saying they would attempt to form a unity government in the coming weeks. Mr Netanyahu told the BBC the Palestinian leader must abandon the deal if he wanted peace with Israel. Mahmoud Abbas has "taken a giant leap backwards", the Israeli leader told BBC Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen. The direct negotiations were already close

Bundy has not paid grazing fees for his cattle, which number into the hundreds and have been on federal land illegally, for over two decades. However, more prominent Republican leaders who have made public and laudatory statements about Bundy have begun to backtrack. Expect the rest — if they want to keep their

Slavyansk, Ukraine - Ukraine´s military launched assaults to retake rebel-held eastern towns on Thursday in which up to five people were reported killed, a move Russian President Vladimir Putin warned would have "consequences". The offensive sent international tensions soaring and oil prices up, raising the prospect of Russia making good on its threat of a massive response in the ex-Soviet republic. The rocket lifts off to a height of about 800 feet, hovers and returns for a landing in the video shot by an aerial drone. SpaceX has been working on a reusable spacecraft with its earlier experimental Grasshopper program. The Grasshopper can be seen in the background of this video. The wings on the Falcon 9 are fixed in the tests, but SpaceX will transition to wings stowed against the side of the rocket and extended just before landing. Russian President and 2005 Super Bowl champion Vladimir Putin told a media forum in St. Petersburg Thursday that the internet was a “CIA project.” Putin said that the series of tubes began as a CIA project and “is still developing as such,” adding that Russia needed to “fight for its influence” on the web. The comments come as the Kremlin tightens its grip on the internet within Russia. In advance of President Obama’s four-nation Asian tour this week, the Washington Post published an article saying this: President Obama’s bid to focus U.S. attention on Asia has failed to meet the lofty expectations he set three years ago in a grand pronouncement that the new emphasis would become a pillar of his foreign policy. Anyone expecting rancher Cliven Bundy to apologize at a news briefing Thursday for widely condemned remarks — that black people were “happier” during the slavery era than now — would be disappointed. Wearing his signature cowboy hat, Bundy, who led an armed confrontation with federal rangers over a land dispute and was then hailed as a patriot by Fox News’ Sean Hannity and other conservatives, repeated in Bunkerville, Nevada, what he had said earlier — he was “just wondering” if blacks were better off under slavery. President Obama’s landslide victory in 2008 was supposed to herald the beginning of a new Democratic era. And yet, six years later, there is not even a clear Democratic majority in the country, let alone one poised for 30 years of dominance. It’s not because Mr. Obama’s so-called new coalition of young and nonwhite voters failed to live up to its potential. They again turned out in record numbers in 2012. The Democratic majority has failed to materialize because the Republicans made large, countervailing and unappreciated gains of their own among white Southerners. Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a stern warning to Russia Thursday evening, one week after a tentative agreement to defuse the crisis in Ukraine appeared to have no impact on the violent clashes between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian government. "The window to change course is closing," Kerry told reporters at the State Department. "President [Vladimir] Putin and Russia face a choice." If Russia does not reverse course and take action to urge the separatists to stand down and give up their arms, Kerry said the U.S. and its allies are poised to take actions directed at hurting Russia´s economy.

In late 2011, nearing the eve of the formal start of the 2012 presidential election cycle, America’s liberal commentators had already watched a series of Republican presidential debates and formed their opinions of the prospective GOP candidates. House Speaker John Boehner hasn´t been coy about his interest in tackling immigration reform legislation. Just last week the Republican leader said he was ´hell bent´ on doing so before the 113th Congress adjourns at the end of this year, despite facing pressure from members of his caucus not to bring the issue to the House floor. The Speaker´s zeal for getting his Republican colleagues to embrace immigration reform took a sharp turn on Thursday from determination to antagonism, however, when Boehner publicly made fun of his Republican colleagues for being too afraid to confront the issue publicly. ´Here´s the attitude. The age comparisons between Hillary Clinton and Ronald Reagan seem as natural as they are nonsensical. Yes, were Clinton to win in 2016, she would take office at age 69—just as Reagan did in 1981. And yes, the comparison is often made when Clinton´s critics and allies debate whether she has the health to serve out two presidential terms. But it´s a wildly misleading comparison, as the number that matters when assessing Clinton´s health is not her age, but her life expectancy. And there is where the Clinton-Reagan comparison is revealed as a stretch. A combination of federal data and
