Obamacare Will Be a Failure Until
Medicaid Expands In Red States

New Republic, by Alec MacGillis

Original Article

Just as supporters of the Affordable Care Act were celebrating the news that the law’s new health insurance exchanges had enrolled 6 million Americans—below the initial 7 million target for the first year, but not shabby given the technical fiascos last fall—comes a reminder of how far we still have to go before the law comes close to achieving its purpose. Gallup has released the results of a 2013 survey asking Americans whether they “did not have enough money to pay for the healthcare and/or medicine they and their families needed.” The eye-opening results are, essentially, a final snapshot of

Comments:
Gov. Perry in Texas eloquently explains why setting up the exchange in his state is a "pig in a poke", because although the feds underwrite it for the first few years, no one knows the expense to the state after that. In addition, the case being heard before SCOTUS (Halbig v. Sebelius) is going to gut the whole exchange idea anyway, because the feds are trying to circumvent the law to cover up the shortfall from the states who refuse to sign up as listed in this article.

It´s not hard to believe that the writer takes the six million touted by the WH at face value without a grain of skepticism. This WH has lied flat out for years and provable on tape and he/she swallows it whole. This article was probably a high school assignment.

What OP said so well..BTW, doesn´t the "new repugnant" know "health exchanges" have "enrolled" at least 6 million people, and most of those in the past week?? Amazingly just before the expiration date of "enrollment" which has been extended to infinity! Of course, the fact that most of these new "policies" have not been paid for is just a "glitch" in an otherwise smooth running experiment. Red States? I don´t think so..

There are so many distortions in this article and one basic truth. To begin with, the poverty level varies from State to State as well as the value assigned to government assistance. Therefore the number used by the author may have been for Mississippi with no value given to government assistance such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, etc. Ms. Stefano’s numbers may have been for California with full value assigned to Government Benefits.

The Basic Truth is that the ACA, or if you prefer Obamacare, is one giant mess on the Birthday Cake of Life.

At the outset of the ACA, about 285,000,000 Americans were insured and roughly 42,000,000 were not. 6,000,000 have signed up. Of those, the most reliable figure we have which is from McKinsey & Co., states that 73% of those already had insurance. Also, only 80% of those 6,000,000 actually paid for their insurance so on 20%, they are still not insured. Doing simple math, 27 % of 6,000,000 is 1,242,000 less 20% having not paid or 248,400 which leaves insuring 993,600 of the 42,000,000 uninsured. For that the insurance plans and Doctors of 285,000,000 Americans have been potentially changed or eliminated.

Part II

Dates have been moved because people were discovering exactly what Senator Reid, at that time Speaker Pelosi and President Obama have foisted on us. If people were feeling the full force of this disaster a lot of states would be going from blue to purple. The Democrats know this and hence the 38 plus illegal changes in the law to protect them.

The plan was allegedly to insure the 42,000,000. Well, 1,000,000 down and 41,000,000 to go. The device they planned to use was a classic bait and switch on the citizens of the States. The Federal Government would subsidize Medicaid expansion for three years but then the States would be on their own. States took the deal because it improved their troubled Cash Flow while increasing their liability at a later date when it could be another politician’s problem. However the citizens of the States would be on the hook and more power would flow to Washington, the apparent real design of this entire scheme.

The lips of every Republican Candidate should utter three numbers. The insurance and choice of Doctors of 285,000,000 Americans was put in jeopardy to cover 1,000,000 and leave 41,000,000 uninsured. Here, in Texas, we have a better idea. We are growing our economy, creating jobs and enabling our citizens to get insurance with those jobs or be able to buy it themselves. We empower the people not the Government.

A Facebook co-founder and digital campaign strategist for the 2008 Obama Campaign, Hughes purchased The New Republic in March, 2012 to help build a future for substantive journalism in a digital age.

So Blue States are now a a model for state and municipal governments? Are you kidding?
So Alex is now saying that Detroit and Los Angeles are fiscally sound and don´t need Washington to send them billions of borrowed money to continue to enslave the entitlement class?

When Washington promises to give states money, the strings attached are nothing more than nooses that will be the financial downfall of state and municipal budgets. It is not a sustainable solution!

Red states get that!
Blue states don´t!

Medicaid is ten times more costly than medicare. Medicaid has free dental, housing allowances, food stamps, no co pays on Dr visits or medicines, clothing vouchers, free cell phones, free diapers, free baby food etc. Medicare has a monthly premium, co pays on medicines, hospital & Dr.visits.

As usual, we read a lot about poor people and their problems. As usual, the solution is to make the taxpayers make up whatever the difference is. Does no Democrat ever consider how much taxpayers can pay? Anyone would think there is no limit to how much we can be taxed.

Even worse is the borrowing that has put us trillions in the hole. Democrats assume taxpayers can make up that difference if the stick is only big enough and the House of Representatives would get out of the way..

We are one country. The Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion was intended to affirm that. But the Supreme Court exploded that approach with its ruling making the Medicaid expansion optional. . . .

Damn them, they must have read the tenth amendment. The audacity of the SC to think that the states have any say in regulating state help for the poor and indigent. How will we ever arrive at Obama´s desired condition that every person all across this one country be cookie cutter equal if they insist on allowing the states to go off on their own, willy nilly, like a herd of cats. Now all the poor people will be moving to the liberal states to get all their free stuff. We will end up like Detroit. This is all the fault of those nasty old white men, the founding fathers and their damn individual liberty and pursuit of happiness fetishes.

So says the left so must say we all.

Persons—both living and dead—become non-persons, past events become events that never happened, certain subjects become unmentionable in any public forums and sometimes even in private conversation.
