Sarah Palin and Joni Ernst:
Making them squeal

The Hill (Washington, D.C.), by Bernie Quigley

Original Article

In the beginning, over there where you can see Russia, there was former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska). And now there is Joni Ernst (R-Iowa). What I saw in the now-famous campaign clip for her Senate run in Iowa — in which she promised to "make them squeal" in Washington and said her Washington skills would include castrating pigs — was confidence and fearlessness. It was a clever ad, and amusing. But with the kind of heartland self-assurance and righteous country confidence that you find in a mountain preacher like Billy Graham or in Johnny Cash and June and Mother Carter:

Hey Bernie, Sarah did not make the comment about Russia, Fey did.

As a city boy, I like the pig ad.

We need to send folks to Washington that can light a fire under the status quo GOP. The GOP ignores reasonable arguments - unless they feel some heat. I deplore how they talk down to us.

Great ad. And good article by Bernie Quigley. Sarah Palin, Joni Ernst, and others like them are changing the language and the narrative of DC politics...and are definitely winning the sound bite wars.

Those ladies have ba...er, intestinal fortitude to go along with their intelligence and comely appearance. I´m glad they´re on our side. [Ah, now, be nice to Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. I´m sure she has her good points.]

#2: Cut Bernie some slack. The "I can see Alaska" meme has become a useful cliche.

~~What happens now that Palin has endorsed Ernst is pivotal. When she endorsed Nikki Haley (R) for governor of South Carolina, Haley skyrocketed in the polls and advanced to easy victory. Worth noting, former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) endorsed Haley as well and has also endorsed Ernst. But does Palin still have the chops?

My guess is yes. If so, Ernst will be heading to the Senate in November.

Let´s hope he´s right!

Correct what #2 said; Palin said you can see Russia from Alaska, which is true (Big Diomede in Russia, Little Diomede in Alaska which are 2 and 1/4 miles apart). Fey´s parody made it from Palin´s house which the low information types bought.

You can easily find out Joni Ernst´s positions by going to her website: www.joniforiowa.com/issues/ She wants to repeal and replace Obamacare, she believes that life begins at conception (it does), she´s a Second Amendment supporter, she wants to scrap the tax code, she believes in the U.S.-Israeli partnership, she wants to grow jobs in Iowa, protect traditional marriage, honor veterans, and grow jobs nationally.

She has no stated position on amnesty or illegal immigration--at least, not on the website.

Mitt Romney endorsed her on March 5.

Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel is projecting confidence about his campaign´s review of ballots cast in a runoff election he narrowly lost to incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran Tuesday ahead of a planned legal challenge to the election results. The campaign is focusing on any ballots cast by individuals who voted in the Democratic primary on June 3, who under Mississippi´s election rules, were not allowed to vote in the Republican primary runoff three weeks later. McDaniel claimed in an interview on Fox News late Thursday that his campaign had identified over 1,000 such votes in Hinds County, which includes a large African

Despite Hillary Clinton’s disappointing book sales, and a gaffe-prone publicity tour, she remains the prohibitive favorite for the Democratic nomination. If anything, the last few weeks have only confirmed her advantage. Despite these disappointments and mis-steps, there is no substantial anti-Clinton movement building in the party. All we hear are crickets. This is very peculiar, when we think about the role that the Clintons have long occupied in the Democratic party. They have long had a troubled relationship with the left wing. Bill Clinton left it on the outside looking in after the Republican wave election of 1994. He dealt with

The National Security Council says the U.S. is "diligently pursuing solutions" to join the Ottawa Convention that bans the use, stockpiling, production and transfer of the mines. The council says the announcement was made Friday at a conference in Mozambique to review the treaty. The White House statement does not indicate when the U.S. will join the treaty or specify the size of the U.S. stockpile.

Snyder has shrugged off complaints about the name, even claiming that “redskins” is a “badge of honor.” Team president Bruce Allen, protesting too much, says the name “has always been respectful of and shown reverence toward the proud legacy and traditions of Native Americans.” But momentum

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000. Were Lois Lerner’s allegedly lost emails actually destroyed? An Ohio-based trade association, the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), isn’t so sure, and they don’t find IRS commissioner Koskinen’s explanation of their loss very plausible. IAITAM administers internationally accepted certifications for information technology professionals. According to the group’s standards, if Lerner’s supposedly malfunctioning hardware was properly destroyed, there would be records of it. Dr. Barbara Rembiesa, president of IAITAM, questions whether there is documentation of the destruction of the files.
