Business Groups Not Backing

U.S. News & World Report, by Lauren Fox

A new report reveals if Congress does not act to overhaul the country’s immigration system, the future could be bleak for businesses who depend on lower-skilled workers. The study, which was released during a Capitol Hill meeting co-hosted by the Partnership for a New American Economy, a bipartisan group of mayors and business leaders, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, finds that while there is still a strong demand for low-skilled workers, the number of Americans willing to fill those low-skill jobs has dwindled dramatically during the last two decades. The report is yet another signal that the business community is not

Perhaps these "businesses" need fewer customers so we don´t have to open the borders!
Who are these people anyway?

Of course Americans will not take these low skilled jobs. Thanks to government, they get more pay and benefits by being on welfare, and without actually having to do any work.

There are many millions of low-skilled American and legal immigrant workers out there. Many of them are currently unemployed and on some sorts of social welfare. Those business employers would much rather hire new foreign labor because it is cheaper for them plus those foreign workers are much easier for the employers to control.

What Obama should be doing is retraining those out of work American workers, many of them who are minorities, and then placing them with American employers who claim they can´t find American workers and thus need new foreign workers.

Big business doesn´t just want to import unskilled labor. They also want to import skilled labor. Remember all the software piracy happening overseas? Its not just movies and music. A company moves its development overseas and all of a sudden some foreign company pops up with the same software and hardware. The company goes to foreign authority which just scratches its head and looks bored. Now big business wants to bring the jobs back to the US, but still does not want to pay American wages. Big business runs to its government cronies to get the necessary leverage. They have gone all the way to Obama trying to get him to talk to China about piracy, but its not working. Also countries like China are still restricting foreign business inside their borders. So much for the New World Order. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Hey, Chamber of Commerce: how about trying capitalism? Supply and demand, with price as the moderator. Raise wages, improve working conditions, and you will find plenty of Americans willing to do the work. (What English-speaking American wants to work in an environment where Spanish or another language is the norm? - English should be the primary language in all public places.) Case in point is the lack of any shortage of NYC trash collectors. There are also plenty of American engineers on the sidelines, displaced by low-cost H1B and outsourced "replacements".

The CofC types point to farm work as their "case in point". Work in the hot fields can be made tolerable if working hours are adjusted and places to cool off provided to accommodate the heat. The cost of picking the crops are only a minuscule part of the retail price. Doubling or tripling it would only impact the price of a head of lettuce by a few cents. Again: let price be the moderator.

Apparently securing our border is a job elected Americans won´t do.

This article notes that the chamber of commerce has dropped $500,000 into the pockets of Mitch McConnell to assist in his perpetual incumbency project. Think Mitch will keep opposing immigration so-called "reform" if he´s re-elected on the chamber´s dime? Think again.

Unlike many of his Republican colleagues, Karl Rove advocated Thursday for bipartisan compromise on immigration. “Republicans have to look at this as an opportunity that they have to work,” the Republican strategist said on the Fox News program “Happening Now.” “It’s an opportunity to get some things done to help secure the border.” He suggested that in working with President Barack Obama’s $3.7 billion request for additional funds to deal with the current immigration crisis, Republicans could make policy gains like increasing the amount of border patrols. “They ought to sit down in good faith,” he said of Republicans and the

President Obama on Thursday claimed he is “not that partisan of a guy” as he mocked calls in the Republican Party for his impeachment. The president spent much of his address in Austin, Texas, hammering congressional Republicans, saying they have "blocked or voted down every serious idea to strengthen the middle class." “I’m just telling the truth now," Obama said. "I don´t have to run for office again so I can just let her rip.” He teed off on Republicans such as Sarah Palin who have suggested in recent days that he be impeached, and dismissed Speaker John Boehner´s (R-Ohio) proposed lawsuit

A group of friends and neighbors in California have posed surrounded by a week´s worth of their garbage to make a powerful statement about the extent of waste in the U.S. The series of images were the idea of photographer Gregg Segal, who wanted to provoke a discussion about the amount of trash the average American creates. Segal set his brave volunteers against natural backgrounds to make it look like they were on the beach, forest floor or floating in a river, and then added the food wrappers, pizza boxes, leftovers and cigarette butts that his brave had brought with them.

The terrorist group Hamas claimed late Wednesday that it attempted to target Israel´s nuclear reactor in the desert town of Dimona by firing three long-range M-75 rockets at the facility. One of the rockets was destroyed in mid-flight by Israel´s Iron Dome system, and two fell harmlessly in the rocky Negev. However, merely by targeting the nuclear facility, Hamas has committed nuclear terrorism, according to United Nations treaties. Article 2 (1) of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism states: 1. Any person commits an offence within the meaning of this Convention if that person unlawfully

The Hamas rocket offensive against Israel in response to Operation Protective Edge continues to grow, with Israel reporting on the third day of strikes that 250 rockets have been launched out of Gaza since Tuesday. That number threatens only to grow as Hamas releases propaganda footage promising "thousands" of rocket strikes. In a video published by the Jerusalem Post, the Hamas jihadist group promises Israel that they will continue their attempts to kill Jews. What transpired in the Mississippi Senate run-off is a red line for many conservatives across the country, because the Republican Party establishment essentially took a civil war and escalated it to a war for independence. It’s one thing to oppose your base in a primary. It’s entirely another to despicably play the race card against your base, and bolster the legitimacy of the propaganda of our race-baiting opponents on the Left. But that’s exactly what the Kamikaze pilots running the GOP did. As a result, Chris McDaniel won Republican voters handily on Tuesday, but still lost the run-off statewide thanks to

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

"In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. But three-dozen organizations representing newspapermen and other journalists, mostly liberals, beg to differ. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers
