BOSTON- Former U.S. President George H. W. Bush was pilloried in 1990 when he broke his "Read my lips: no new taxes" campaign pledge, and may have lost his chance at re-election as a result. But this year he is getting an award for the decision. The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation on Thursday announced the 41st U.S. president, father of former President George W. Bush, is co-recipient of the 2014 Profile in Courage Award for making the politically difficult choice to raise taxes two years into his first term. "Although he recognized the 1990 budget deal might doom his

The Left coerced GHWB to raise taxes (it almost seemed like their singular reason for existence after his "read my lips" pledge), and then used his acquiescent act to kill his 1992 campaign.

Now historians on the Left are trying to alter posterity´s view of that almost-Ceasarian backstab to make it look like there was no dishonor in that event. Don´t let them hide the knife they stuck in his back ... let future generations know that this was no heroic compromise -- it was political bullying and character assassination.

The Left reneged on their part of the agreement for spending cuts, and turned around and made this a negative campaign issue for GHB.
And because of that, the con artist and sexual molester Bill Clinton won the ´92 election.
This, more than anything, demonstrates NEVER TRUST A DEMOKRAT.

If GHWB in any way acknowledges or accepts this award, if not actually denouncing it, I will lose what respect I may still have for him.

And all the RINOs in Congress will see the betrayal of the American people as a way to win the Profiles in Courage award. They´ll be racing to sell us down the river again.

Bush knew this would kill his political future but he compromised on the budget bill anyway because he thought it was necessary not to plunge the country into further economic chaos. It probably would have been forgotten if not for Buchanan and Gingrich hammering it during the primaries and then picked up by Clinton in the general. Right or wrong, he thought he was doing what was best for the country.

No doubt that Democrats are pleased as punch to give an award to any Republican who commits political suicide!

They will acknowledge him because through this one little compromise the way was paved for Bill Clinton to enter the WH. This compromise doomed GHWB to a one term presidency. Kinda like "You can keep your doctor if you want to."

He betrayed his supporters - no courage there.
Saw a photo of a smiling trio eating BBQ - a young Bill Clinton, GHWB and George Wallace.
Recall GHWB and Jeb laughing in the Oval Office with Obama before putting the knife in Romney.
The GHWB and Bill Clinton redemption tour allowed the Clintons to reap MILLIONS in in his tax exempt foundation - Disgusting.
Now Barbara talks about how much she loves the Sexual Predator.
And Jeb gives Hilary an Award.
WAY TOO MUCH reaching across the aisle.
Time to sweep the Bushes and Clintons off the Political Board.

If he accepts this award, it will hurt Jeb..the next "Bush President!´

Or maybe it would highlight that the ruling elite never really changes and it will be business as usual with Jeb

When any Bush is in the news, their drum beaters are on hand w/the usual excuses and rationalizations for their failure and incompetence. How predictable. So just who are the Bushes? Essentially, nobodies who ´do politics´. In fact, if Reagan hadn´t thrown Bush a VP life preserver, it´s likely nothing further would have been heard from any of them.
Contrast them w/the Adams Family of Boston whose members made major contributions to our intellectual and political life for more than 150 years, as follows.
*Samuel: Publisher and Revolutionary Voice, 1775-83.
*John: President at the creation and a founder of the Federalist Party.
*Quincy: President who implemented the Monroe Doctrine and acquired Florida from Spain.
*Charles: As Sec´y of State, kept Britain on the side of the North during the Civil War.
*Henry: World ranking historian.
There are many more but the family record of significant achievement in letters, in business and in law is unsurpassed. And what is the core Bush accomplishment? Basically, ushering Clinton and Obama into the WH.

It was not a minor faux pas. Bush deceived himself and us about something fundamental to his campaign and central to our lives. He made as clear a promise as it is possible for a politician to make, and then he broke his word. I understand the Democrats were to blame, and that Clinton was infinitely worse, but Bush made a promise and he broke that promise. Politicians that do that must not be rewarded. They must be held accountable.

Giving Bush an award for his shameful stupidity is the worst kind of political perversity.

McAllen, TX -Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, freed after years of captivity in Afghanistan and returned to active duty this week, has retained an attorney — a military law expert from Yale. Eugene Fidell, who teaches military justice at Yale Law School, told the Los Angeles Times that he has been representing Bergdahl for about a week and is working pro bono. Fidell said he has received a variety of reactions to his decision to work with Bergdahl. "There are people who harbor ill will toward my client," Fidell said, but at the same time he has received emails "wishing my client

Car theft is a major problem in America, but most people would agree that it’s hard to lose a car. As an investigation by the Daily Beast has learned, however, the Pentagon has somehow lost multiple cars belonging to American servicemen and women. Here’s how it happens: The Pentagon often reassigns their soldiers to different stations throughout the world, and helps their families defray the financial costs of moving — including the cost of shipping their cars. For decades, the Pentagon contracted this service out to American Auto Logistics (AAL), but replaced them this summer with a company called International

In 2012, I alerted the federal government to the growing problem of unaccompanied minors making the treacherous journey across Mexico to reach the United States. At that point the minors could annually be numbered in the hundreds or thousands. In recent months, tens of thousands of children have come across the border and are now housed in federal facilities across the U.S., the result of failed federal policies and Washington´s indifference to securing the border. I visited one of these facilities in June and saw these children, frightened and alone, who left their homes and families, survived a harrowing trip, and

To the dismay of Jon Stewart, Hillary Clinton did not make her big announcement on "The Daily Show" on Tuesday. The comedian and talk show host opened his interview with the former secretary of state and possible presidential candidate by praising her memoir, "Hard Choices," before pivoting to the question Clinton is asked everywhere she goes. "It´s an incredibly complex and well-reasoned and eyewitness view," Stewart said of the book. "I think I speak for everybody when I say no one cares. They just want to know if you´re running for president. Are you?" "I was going to make an

Constitutional lawyers backing a planned House Republican lawsuit against President Barack Obama told a congressional committee Wednesday that the action is justified because Obama has exceeded his powers in carrying out his health care law. Attorneys allied with Democrats in opposing the suit said it´s the GOP that´s going too far by trying to resolve a political dispute by giving the question to the courts to decide. The lawyers appeared Wednesday before the House Rules Committee, which is considering legislation authorizing the House to file the lawsuit. WASHINGTON — The White House said Tuesday night that it would refuse to allow its director of political strategy to testify Wednesday before a Republican-led House committee investigating whether the administration had illegally conducted political activity in the West Wing. In a letter to Representative Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the president’s top lawyer said that as a member of the executive branch the political director, David Simas, had immunity from being compelled to testify before Congress. Mr. Issa’s committee subpoenaed Mr. Simas last week, contending that the White House should not

The bid was worth roughly $80 billion, or $85 per share in cash and stock, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters. Time Warner´s stock jumped 22.5 percent to $87 premarket as the New York Times reported that Murdoch was determined to buy Time Warner and was unlikely to walk away despite the rejection. WASHINGTON — The White House likes to use a phrase of tingling adventure to describe the president’s recent penchant for wandering the country talking to people: “The bear is loose.” There are three problems with this unbearable metaphor: Barack Obama is not in captivity, he’s not a bear, and he’s not loose. As Voltaire said of the Holy Roman Empire, it was “neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.” When our whippetlike president travels on Air Force One from staged photo-op to staged photo-op and then to coinciding fund-raiser to coinciding fund-raiser, encased by the White House travel behemoth and
