U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has extended federal recognition to the Michigan marriages of about 300 same-sex couples that took place before a federal appeals court put those unions on hold. Holder´s action on Friday enables the government to extend eligibility for federal benefits to the couples. It came two days after Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said Michigan won´t recognize the marriages performed last weekend. U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman struck down the gay marriage ban the day before. Snyder´s move closed the door to certain state benefits reserved solely for married couples. Four counties granted licenses before the 6th

The Civil War was fought over just such trampling of states´ rights. Methinks this administration is teetering on the edge of overplay for the sake of the 1-2%.

The mother of an off-duty police officer who was killed by a wrong-way illegal immigrant driver has written a furious letter to President Obama demanding to know why the man was not deported after being convicted of a crime. Mary Ann Mendoza, who lost her son Sgt. Brandon Mendoza in the horror crash in Mesa, Arizona in May, expressed her anger that the driver, Raul Silva-Corona, was not sent back to Mexico two decades ago after he carried out crimes in Colorado. ´The prosecutors were "lenient" on him and several charges were dismissed,´ she wrote in the letter. ´When he was convicted of

WASHINGTON – Top Republican Rep. Darrell Issa Friday accused the State Department of trying to repeatedly dodge congressional efforts to look into the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman sent a 37-page letter to the newly-created House Select Committee on Benghazi detailing attempts he claimed were made to sidestep providing documents and answering questions about the attack from September 2012 until May 2014. Issa said the State Department promised to cooperate with Congress but failed to actually provide information requested and missed many

Thursday night on The Kelly File, Megyn took on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s comments that the Supreme Court’s ruling on Hobby Lobby is “frightening” because it was decided by five men. Megyn said in reaction, “If Speaker John Boehner made a similar comment about the female Supreme Court justices, Nancy Pelosi would be crying sexism – and that’s what she is guilty of here.” Today, PolitiFact looked into Pelosi’s comments and rated it false. When the fact-checking site called her office, they said Pelosi “misspoke.” “She misspoke? What part? When she said five guys were determining what forms of

Chris Christie narrowly leads the pack of potential Republican presidential candidates in a poll of New Hampshire residents released Friday, but Mitt Romney crushes the competition when his name is added to the field. Christie, the cantankerous and controversial New Jersey governor, emerged as the most polarizing name on a list of 13 politicians presented during a phone poll between June 19 and July 1. While 46 per cent of New Hampshire Republicans like him, another 36 per cent don´t. And he topped the list when GOP respondents were asked who they definitely would not vote for. Who even knows what’s true anymore? The same administration that is watching 57,000 kids just stroll across the border, while claiming that the same border is more secure than ever before, now says that funds to deport are getting low. Even though actual deportations — not the phony ones that the administration claimed for years — are down overall. The Homeland Security agency responsible for removing immigrants who are in the country illegally will run out of money by mid-August unless Congress approves President Barack Obama’s emergency request for $3.7 billion to help deal with a flood of child immigrants crossing the

Reverend Jesse Jackson sat down with Greta Van Susteren on Fox tonight and basically took on President Obama for pushing for billions of dollars to help young illegal immigrants at the border, but not making that kind of commitment to places like Chicago. Jackson said helping these poor children is obviously a good, moral thing to do, but Obama can’t just “abandon urban America” in the process. Jackson said that there is a crisis going on in Chicago right now, with guns and drugs coming into the city while more jobs are heading out. He said things have gotten so bloody and tragic, it’s time for federal intervention.

The crisis at our southern border, coupled with President Obama’s visit to Texas, has propelled Rick Perry back into the limelight. And Perry has made the most of this unexpected opportunity. Perry would like to be known nationally for more than his embarrassing run for president during the last cycle. In the words of this article from Buzz Feed, the border crisis has enabled him “to be out in front on an issue he knows well: the border.” According to the same article, Perry’s expertise “was on display when [he] took his spot in front of the dais” at a Homeland Security field hearing on border crisis last week.

The facts are simple. The IRS systematically targeted conservative and Tea Party groups after their activism proved decisive in the 2010 midterm elections—Obama’s famous “shellacking.” The effects of this targeting were widespread. Some Tea Party groups were neutered in the months before the 2012 presidential election. Few of the explanations or justifications of this targeting provided by IRS leaders and Obama administration officials have held up. IRS officials at first denied that any targeting had taken place. That was false. They later claimed that the targeting had involved only low-level employees in the Cincinnati office. That was false. They argued

The next time you hear politicians denounce Barack Obama as a lawless, imperial president with a scandal-riddled administration, ask them what they’re going to do about it. Their gnashing of teeth over Obama’s self-granted omnipotence is repetitive. Let’s agree with our ninth president, William Henry Harrison, who said there is nothing more corrupting, nothing more destructive than the exercise of unlimited power. We understand the problem. The only way for politicians to fix it is with a little less talk and a lot more action. The Constitution provides the remedy for a president who commits “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
