Obama´s Inequality Pitch Falls Flat
Wall Street Journal, by Kimberley Strassel

Original Article

With his disapproval ratings at record highs, his health law flailing, President Obama decided 2014 would be the year for a new agenda. "Inequality has deepened," he warned in the State of the Union. "Upward mobility has stalled." He laid out a roster of populist proposals: more unemployment insurance, raising the federal minimum wage, giving women "equal pay for equal work." The White House and congressional Democrats have since spent every waking minute holding rallies, issuing reports, tweeting and giving interviews on all those issues. The political calculus is that vulnerable Republicans can be bludgeoned into joining Democrats to support poll-tested

I just ´Love´ the "equal pay for equal work" shibboleth. How many women are:

1-Plumbers
2-Iron workers
3-Welders
4-Mechanics
5-Trash collectors
6-Carpenters
7-Miners

And five hundred other nasty, filthy, dangerous professions ????

Don´t talk to me about ´equal´ until you understand the meaning of equal.

Among a number of good points this article makes is the strong one that Democrats are hoping this "income inequality" business will help distract people from the wretched failure of Obamacare.

The Obama economy is six years old. If it´s so wonderful, why do unemployment benefits need to be extended?

All I need to know about "equal pay for equal work" I learned from looking at the pay scales within 0bama´s White House...where the women earn about $10,000 less than the men on an "equal" level of responsibility.

NBC should be held liable for the editing of George Zimmerman’s 911 call in ways that made Zimmerman appear to be a racist. In a grotesque and apparently malicious act of misreporting, NBC, in multiple broadcasts, aired doctored, heavily edited versions of the 911 call, misleadingly moving around Zimmerman’s words like a Rubik’s Cube. The result gave a false impression of the tragic incident in which Zimmerman shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, and it exposed Zimmerman to the hatred, scorn and contempt of millions of viewers. Zimmerman is suing NBC and the network is fighting back. But the network’s

The Supreme Court’s
Powerful New Consensus

WASHINGTON — FOR years, particularly after the 2000 election, talk about the Supreme Court has centered on its bitter 5-to-4 divisions. Yet it is worth reflecting on a remarkable achievement: The court has agreed unanimously in more than 66 percent of its cases this term (and that figure holds even if Monday’s remaining two cases, on the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive coverage and on public-sector unions, are not unanimous). The last year this happened was 1940. The justices’ ability to cross partisan divides and find common ground in their bottom-line judgment in roughly two-thirds of their cases — including the two

With Republicans in Washington thus far successfully fending off insurgent tea party challengers in competitive races, odds makers are now indicating that the GOP has a better than even chance of retaking the upper chamber of Congress in November. President Barack Obama’s sinking job approval rating is not helping boost Democrats’ chances. Speaking anonymously to The Hill, one Democratic Senator said Obama’s “unpopularity” is troubling. “It’s a tense time,” the source said. It is with this backdrop that Obama descended on Minnesota on Thursday where freshman Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is seeking reelection. Franken has spent the last six years maintaining as

Inside the Other Bergdahl Negotiations

While the U.S. government was negotiating with Taliban representatives on the controversial prisoner swap that set Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl free, Bergdahl’s family opened up a separate channel to the Taliban to try to buy his freedom with cash, according to two sources with knowledge of the case. This channel of negotiations has not been previously reported. It was focused on winning Bergdahl’s freedom with a $10 million ransom to be paid by private sources, not U.S. government money, the sources say. These talks started in 2012 and continued until May 2014. The revelation of this second set of negotiations underscores two points:

I’m 41 years old, which doesn’t feel that old to me (most days), but history is short. With the exception of those trapped behind the Iron Curtain, the world as I have known it has been remarkably free and prosperous, and it is getting more free and more prosperous. But it is also a fact that, within my lifetime, there have been dictatorships in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Poland, India, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, South Korea, and half of Germany — and lots of other places, too, to be sure, but you sort of expect them in Cameroon and Russia. The Milwaukee (Wisconsin) Journal Sentinel, which is intimately familiar with the facts of this case, nonetheless headlined “John Doe prosecutors allege Scott Walker at center of ‘criminal scheme.’” The New York Times, all the networks, CNN, MSNBC, Time.com and all the other usual suspects chimed in with a deafening cacophony of alarm, using the same “Walker at center of criminal scheme” headlines. Even Forbes took the bait. In a year saturated with false, misleading or downright fraudulent misreporting from the left-wing

The talk about Republicans impeaching

All the talk about impeaching President Obama is crazy. Notice that most of the commentary about impeachment actually comes from Democrats, not Republicans. Forget about whether or not there might theoretically be a technically valid legal case for impeachment; it won’t happen. But the usual suspects on the left would like for Republicans to try. It is in the Obama forces’ best interest to pretend that the Republicans might really try to impeach the president. It is easier for them to motivate their base when it appears they are dealing with a dangerous, reckless foe. The fact that a few

President Obama prides himself on having taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago. So he must be smarting from this week’s Supreme Court decision saying he doesn’t understand a president’s recess powers under the Constitution. The high court slapped the president hard over what it said were his illegal recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board in 2012. And it wasn’t just the court’s conservatives: This was a 9-0 decision. The Constitution empowers the president to unilaterally fill high-level vacancies when Congress is in recess. Both parties have used the power when their appointments were blocked on Capitol Hill. But Obama

IT Trade Association Questions Whether

Were Lois Lerner’s allegedly lost emails actually destroyed? An Ohio-based trade association, the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), isn’t so sure, and they don’t find IRS commissioner Koskinen’s explanation of their loss very plausible. IAITAM administers internationally accepted certifications for information technology professionals. According to the group’s standards, if Lerner’s supposedly malfunctioning hardware was properly destroyed, there would be records of it. Dr. Barbara Rembiesa, president of IAITAM, questions whether there is documentation of the destruction of the files. Who performed the work, says Rembiesa, is important because not all IT professionals are IAITAM certified. “The notion

A nightmare for Affordable Care Act supporters has been the possibility that only the sick would be left to purchase insurance through its exchanges, driving premiums up and insurers out. While the law’s boosters have been quick to dismiss the possibility that such a so-called death spiral could occur, data published in the Wall Street Journal suggest that this chain of events may not be so far-fetched after all. The findings are significant not just for what they say about how Obamacare is working now, but also for their impact on the political debate over its future. At its base, the data

President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. And he’s shifting into hyperpartisan drive, traveling the country to campaign for Democrats, many of whom wish he’d just stay away. Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) In 1996, while at the FEC, Lois Lerner harassed Republican Senate candidate Al Salvi and made him this outrageous offer, “Promise me you will never run for office again, and

Ordinarily, President Obama’s days are planned out to the smallest detail. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000.
