One Doctor’s Viral Letter Exposes the Harrowing
Reality of Obamacare’s ‘War Against Doctors’

Independent Journal Review, by Emily Hulsey

In an address to the House on Wednesday, Alabama Representative Mo Brooks read aloud a letter sent to him by Dr. Marlin Gill of Decatur. The letter holds nothing back while detailing the excessive costs and regulations that Dr. Gill calls Obamacare’s “war against doctors.” Here is the full text of the letter, courtesy of Rep. Brooks’ office: Dear Congressman Brooks, As a practicing family physician, I plead for help against what I can best characterize as Washington’s war against doctors. The medical profession has never before remotely approached today’s stress, work hours, wasted costs, decreased efficiency, and declining ability to focus on patient

Seems obvious to me that these new codes (e.g. broken ankle due to skateboarding) are fodder for a new avalanche of mindless regulations ... SkateBoard Rules and Regulations.

This insanity got started with the ubiquitous Speed Sign Laws that and more recently car seatbelt laws. I´ve been told that I could get a large fine for cutting the grass withing 50 feet of a small creek in my backyard (2´ wide creek). Wetlands

It´s an adrenalin rush that liberals cannot resist.

Where were you doctors when the bill was being debated; e.g., Administration paraded all those fake doctors and the real ones sat on their hands. Way too late...it´s the law now and the medical field should´ve been more active in opposing it.

So far there is a lot of bloviating and nothing to stop the ongoing train wreck.

Right on, right on, right on Dr. Gill. Doctors were silent during the sunup to the ACA (except for the puppets in lab coats that the administration trotted out). Computerized records and ICD10 are ideas so good, they have to be mandatory.

EMR is yet another bureaucratic blight on a so-called caring profession.

I get more eye contact from airline counter agents than I do from physicians glued to their computers.

PS - if you are using a computer then there should be no need to ask me my name and date of birth a dozen times!

The left ie Democrats hate Doctors because they make a profit. They will do anything to harm Doctors financially. The best and brightest became Doctors to help people and to be rewarded for all their hard work and financial cost. Now what we will get is less than the best. Those willing to work for a modest pay as a Doctor will not be in our best interest as patients. The Democrats are destroying the greatest healthcare system in the world and they are pleased with that. How any rationale person be a Democrat is beyond me.

One would reason the Democrats are heavily invested in these expensive requirements, like ICD10, etc. They probably have had parties to celebrate their new found wealth , at American citizen expense, back-slapping and making toasts over champagne. They see dollar signs but need to see stars from being knocked out.

Doctors in the US make twice what they do in other developed countries, yet their work product is worse. Insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors routinely rip off their customers. I have no sympathy for the medical profession.

It took years to master ICD-9 before you could even get hired to do the job. Seventy thousand codes!!! No one can learn that many and it´s a system that is designed to destroy the income of any dr who tries to continue normal practice. At the hospital where I worked, the one job that was always open, my five years there, was for coders. And it was a good paying job. I can´t imagine anyone being able to do the job now and for the record, codes are what Washington goes by to reimburse the dr.

Doctors did try to oppose Obamacare. They knew the AMA was selling them out. Surprisingly enough, they had no more success than LDotters who notice that the administration obeys neither the Constitution or the duly-passed laws. Nobody seems able to stop Progressives who are hell-bent on taking us to utopia.

Too many who have made comments are wondering where the doctors were when this obamacare was being written........REMEMBER......NO one knew what the h.e.l.l. was in the bill as it was written behind lock doors by the DEMOCRATS and LABOR UNIONS. It was not posted to the internet, even tiny bits of it until way after the bill was signed into law. It was voted on closed to Midnight on Christmas Eve by DEMOCRATS, alone.
Don´t blame the REAL doctors, they were at hospitals, their offices taking care of patients.
BLAME belongs to the DEMOCRATS, obama and his legion of LIARS who are enabling him and the DEM Congress to destroy this country.

My last visit to my doctor, just to have routine prescriptions refilled, took twice as long as before zerocare because my doctor was fumbling with his computer. He couldn´t find the right code for my hormone replacement therapy. I know he´s a "progressive" but even he laughed ruefully when I commented, "Just another example of the government getting involved in health care."

This doctor is asking for yet another change to the Obamacare law above all those Obama has already made! Is he suggesting that Obama break the law by changing a law that Congress passed? That would be like Roberts approving as constitutional a law that Congress has not passed! Obama can´t do that. He could get impeached over that sort of thing./s Seriously the work of doctors is too important, to essential to the health care system for them to be paid. It should not be done for personal profit or any greedy motive. Doctors should not be allowed to charge more than the direct costs of providing the service. All the money should go to the army of paper pushers in the 300 agencies set up to administer Obamacare and watch over the doctors. The thousands of codes can be data mined for more excuses to cut costs and shift blame. That should fix everything!

They think that the state should be able to push around all of the now ´managed professionals´. Wait until you meet your new doctor under their regime. Remember the show-biz spectacle of Pelosi and gang (gavel in hand) parading around the Capital in triumph? Remember the effort to claim racial taunting? Remember how Congress and the American people were coerced into accepting the ACA with no time to read it? Remember the "medical people" standing behind Obama as he made pronouncement after pronouncement about healthcare? The list is long..and we remember.

The "war against doctors" is very likely to turn medicine into a semi-profession, whereby medicine looses control over medical education and practice. Worse: the number of people in and out of the profession who sit back and say nothing.

The nearest hospital is 20 miles away and for very serious cases they already have to go to Boston and other far away locations.

The records system and codes are a solution designed by a bureaucracy for which there is NEVER enough paperwork since paperwork = job security. Bureaucrats don´t DO anything except generate and shuffle papers.

The sadistic technique of BOCare was to dump all the costs of the program onto the private sector. Yes, we will increase coverage by forcing everyone to pay far more for insurance and deductibles. Yes, we will standardize medical paperwork by making a monstrous paperwork system and forcing the medical system to foot the bill to support it.

They created a bloated beast and foisted it on us. Business cannot provide poor and expensive products and expect to stay in business. Only government can do that because it forces its customers to pay taxes to receive it´s "income".

BOCare will break the private insurance market and then the government will swoop in to help by taking over health insurance completely. It´s the same thing they did with the housing and financial markets. They put insane regulations in place. When the markets collapsed under their weight, the government rushed in to "fix" the problem. But the problem is NOT fixed and with government being unaccountable, nothing further can be done. Meanwhile the government largely took over the private market, which is what their goal was in the first place.

I can tell you one group that will benefit greatly from this downgraded health care system - 3rd world doctors who will be willing to come to America and work for government paid incomes that are well below current levels. Do not be surprised if the attention you get from the medical profession becomes rather off-handed.

Once more. THERE ARE NO DEMOCRATS IN THIS COUNTRY! They are Communists/Socialists/Fascists. They simply don´t give a hoot about anyone except themselves. And the one thing they want more than anything else is political power over the masses. They crave that even more that money or life itself. As for destroying the medical profession, that has been the underlying goal all the time. They simply want the government to run all aspects of healthcare, including on who gets to live or should just die and get out of the way. And this is a subject that needs to be made to the entire nation. Although I don´t think that enough people will be able to understand. The evil ones have already taken complete control of our educational system.

I am currently working for a company developing ICD 10 compliant EMR systems.

The ICD codes are used for calculating the reimbursement rates paid to providers by the government programs. I beleive the real reason for massively increasing the number of diagnostic codes, and for adding codes for preposterous events, is that it will increase the likelyhood of coding, and hence billing, errors. Then whenever a certain provider steps out of line, the feds will do an audit of their coding. (The ability to do this is a requirement of Zippycare compliant EMR systems). With that many codes it is likely they can always find some mistakes and then presto! The politically incorrect provider is charged with billing fraud!

It´s all about control people, not health care. ACA = Absolute Control of Americans

I totally think Obamacare should be rescinded. But....

My family has been with Kaiser here in the DC area for years. How I wish my company would switch to Kaiser. They are computerized, and have been for years. My family can make their appointments online, email their doctor with a question, and get lab result. In the meantime, their doctor emails them questions, solutions, and orders.

Because of Obamacare, my family practice is just beginning to computerize. They should have done it years ago. My cardiologist´s office is computerized. I have no problem with it. All of my records are on the computer my Dr. brings into the exam room. As a good doctor, he makes eye-contact, he touches when appropriate. He doesn´t have a 5-inch thick file to contend with (like my family physician).

Obamacare is wrong, wrong, wrong. But, computerizing is a no-brainer that should have been done years ago.

What a nasty situation Obama and ´his´ Democrats have put our country in - and the doctors whom we most rely on when we need serious help. It´s obvious Obama hates most of us and doesn´t give a moment´s thought or worry about the hardships - physical, emotional, financial - he has forced so many Americans to endure.

I thank this doctor for his courage and his thoughts on the dire situation in which we now find ourselves. Dr. Gill will probably have to ´suffer´ the consequences of his words (honest and truthful as they may be) so as to discourage anyone else from speaking out. Probably also will need some food tasters and burly bodyguards, as his opponents are strong, powerful and lawless (unfortunately) - emanating from the White House on down through various agencies and individuals who do Obama´s bidding and dirty work.

It´s very painful to realize our country and its leaders have come to this. I keep thinking…."For God´s sake….somebody do something!" How long must we continue to ´bite the bullet´ so as not to scream too loudly as we see our beloved America slipping away?

Wake up. You are all missing the argument. This is it (as I understand it): There´s a clot of plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean the size of Texas. We Americans are responsible for that toxic waste and the choking of the planet. Our medical care system has kept us alive to prosper and multiply to continue to poison Mother Earth and we are human versions of pigs unworthy of life. We must be eliminated except for the elite few who know we are pigs and try to eliminate us from the planet for exploiting the environment. Meanwhile, we elite few get some down time while our ugly spouses and sullen children fly around the globe at other´s expense; acting like we´re interested in something other than room service and talking down to the little people.

It´s a God complex thing. The Democrats have always longed for that kind of power - at least as long as I have been alive - dating back to FDR. The ACA is the culmination of their dreams.

Some doctors I´ve had came across as having a God complex; however, as long as they made me well I didn´t care. Now I´m concerned that they will no longer follow the Hippocratic oath, which I thought stated "first do no harm". In looking up what it really says I find that it has been revised numerous times. It seems that now the revisions are equivocating on that original oath.

Unbelievably, I even found that the Nazi doctors had a medical oath which must have eased any conscience those doctors had with putting to death six million Jewish souls.

The reluctance of Hamas’s “military wing”—a misnomer for the more extreme elements of its extremist leadership—to accept the cease-fire designed by Egypt is, well, logical. Let’s admit it. They do not wish to accept defeat, and the Egyptian terms are a defeat for Hamas. By attacking Israel, what has Hamas wrought? Considerable damage was done to Gaza by Israeli air power, and Gazans will be picking up the pieces for months if not longer. But Hamas proved unable to kill one single Israeli with its hundreds of rockets, and all its special tricks—tunnels, longer-range rockets, a drone—also failed. Nor could

House Republicans are moving quickly to address the growing humanitarian crisis on the southern border, possibly holding votes as soon as next week. As Congress moves closer to the monthlong August recess, the speedy action sends a clear message to Senate Democrats: Take it or leave it. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), incoming Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and a group of top lawmakers working on the border crisis are set to file a bill that very closely mirrors the legislation crafted by Texas lawmakers Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, and Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar.

The ideological alliance behind these changes is among the strangest in U.S. politics. Libertarians seek to lift governmental restraints on consensual acts. Republicans fired back today at Democrats’ plans to counter the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision that allows a contraception exclusion for closely-held companies with religious beliefs, saying they will propose a measure of their own. It was a dose of election year reality, dashing Democratic efforts at drawing bipartisan support for their plan. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., said the dialogue has been driven away from the religious freedom rationale of the ruling and distorted for political leverage. “I really am disappointed that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle would try to score election-year points by misrepresenting what the Hobby Lobby

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- Israel on Wednesday intensified air attacks on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip following a failed Egyptian cease-fire effort, targeting the homes of four senior leaders of the Islamic militant movement. It also told tens of thousands of residents to leave Gaza´s border areas ahead of more strikes. The Palestinian death toll in nine days of fighting rose to 204, with some 1,450 wounded, Palestinian health officials said. On the Israeli side, one man was killed and several people were wounded since the fighting erupted on July 8. The renewed bombings came a day after Israel initially

ORLANDO, Fla. — It´s something most of most students learn in elementary school -- the United States is made up of 50 states and the District of Columbia. But Channel 9´s Justin Gray found out it´s a lesson that an Orlando agent with the Transportation Safety Administration seems to have missed. Gray, who lives in Washington, D.C., was flying out of Orlando International Airport when a TSA agent said Gray´s District of Columbia driver´s license wasn´t a valid form of identification. Gray said his license is legal and up-to-date, but the TSA agent didn´t seem to know what the District of

As the conflict between Israel and Hamas escalates, attention is focused on those individuals whose heroism is very much in the public eye: the parents of the three boys who were kidnapped and murdered, who lifted up the nation through their stoic courage and generosity of spirit; the air force pilots who are currently in the forefront and the intelligence agents who assist them in selecting targets; and the men and women who defied the skeptics to design the Iron Dome system that has been remarkably effective in protecting Israelis from rockets and missiles Palestinian terror groups are raining down

I took a look back at the current crisis of illegal Central American minors in the Weekly Standard article “Disorder at the border,” published in this past Friday in the new issue of the magazine. In retrospect, I think that the events of the preceding days fixed these issues in the public mind and culminated in President Obama’s notable address following his meeting in Dallas with Governor Perry. Obama had resisted the meeting with Perry, as he resisted visiting the border along the Rio Grande. In Dallas and Austin for big-buck fundraisers with his conspicuously wealthy friends, Obama was ultimately shamed

Conventional wisdom is clear that the next Congress has a considerable likelihood of being a Republican Congress. That same consensus also holds that if the GOP does indeed take control, the next two years will be marked by confrontation with the White House and even less actual legislative action than the present Congress has accomplished. To be fair, there is some compelling logic behind these conclusions. President Obama has clearly opted out of the role of governing through legislation. He has become the most defensive president since at least World War II, blaming the Congress not just for all the ills of the

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
