In China, Michelle Obama
gets a taste of Tibet

USA Today, by Calum MacLeod

BEIJING — Among the superlatives and breathless praise visitors lavish on Tibet, few involve its largely forgettable food. In a tough climate, on the roof of the world, most meals consist of tsampa, a tasteless dough made from roasted barley flour. But Michelle Obama, accompanied by her mother and daughters, did more than promote a little-known cuisine Wednesday at lunchtime with her controversial choice of a Tibetan restaurant as the final stop of the first-ever solo trip to China by an American first lady. Simply by dining at the Zangxiang Teahouse in Chengdu, a city in southwestern China, Obama drew

I have no idea why Michelle chose to eat there, but I do know how rude 0bama was to the Dali Lami on a recent visit to the White House. The Dali Lami was shown out the back door, he photo showed him walking through aisles of black bags of trash. I was very ashamed of how the 0bama´s treated him.

LOL, #5...The black trash bag-line walkway was probably, in fact, the front entrance and you were just confused. With the classless Obamas, you never know!

Re #2, seriously? Courage? This is a Tibetan-style restaurant in Chengdu. The food may have tasted quite foreign. Maybe not too good to our palate. But not hazardous. They´d have made sure of that before she dined there.

When we were planning a three week tour of China a few years back, I asked a travel doctor what precautions we should take, especially about food. He said their food was not a worry. He knew of no one coming back with the GI complaints one would pick up in Mexico. Rather, he warned that we might end up with respiratory problems due to the dust, especially in the north (Beijing, etc.).

Some Chinese eat things we don´t eat, but we don´t have to eat those oddities. Vegetables were fresh every day because they were typically whatever is grown locally. Shellfish were wonderful when we were near the ocean. We drank beer (wonderful), only sealed bottled water, and had an interesting time.

What made me sick? Eating a gourmet box lunch at the Hong Kong Sevens (major rugby match) during the first week. It included a shrimp salad with mayonnaise and had not been refrigerated for a few hours. And I knew better.

Notice grandma and the sullen sisters never tried the scrolls ?

I see grandma has a wig hat on too. You can see the black band in the back when they are looking at the pandas.

DPA.
#7, For decades China has OCCUPIED Tibet, enslaved the indigenous peoples and done their darndest to repopulate the country with Chinese nationals to wipe out the Tibetan culture.
As I said, no fan of the Admin at all, and I am as disgusted by the shabby treatment of the Dalai Lama( the leader who IS NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER HIS OWN COUNTRY BECAUSE OF CHINESE DOMINATION)by Uhhhbama BUT this tiny show of support by the FLOTUS is worthy of note.
Did you really think I meant the food?????????

A quick and reflective stroll down memory lane. The slick orating, teleprompter reading, public misleading new face in politics in full bloom in this video from the archives. I will make our government open and transparent…..that our business is the people’s business. I will make it impossible for lobbyists or Congressmen to slip pork barrel projects into law when no one is looking. Law making will not be done in secret but open to public viewing. No more secrecy. Meetings between lobbyists and government agencies will be placed on line for viewing. The public will have the opportunity to read, on

(Video) FALFURRIAS, Texas—A natural gas pipeline being constructed in the western portions of Brooks County is rapidly becoming a super-highway for illegal immigrants struggling to sneak around the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint located in the county. Workers report regularly seeing illegals making their way along the pathway of the pipeline. Brooks County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Walden brought Breitbart Texas to the construction area during a ride-along. He said the pipleline has already become a massive flow point for the illegal immigrants who struggle to find their way north to an area where they can be picked up. Pipeline construction workers

The Democratic National Committee is holding a contest to win a trip to meet President Obama during his fundraising swing through Los Angeles on July 23, when he will attend a fundraiser at the home of “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes. An e-mail announcing the sweepstakes went out on Tuesday afternoon, with the entrants eligible also for airfare and hotel accommodations and a trip to a reception, the details of which were unspecified. Earlier in the day, the website Charitybuzz.com removed an auction from its site in which a winner could bid in an auction to win two tickets to the

In 2012, I alerted the federal government to the growing problem of unaccompanied minors making the treacherous journey across Mexico to reach the United States. At that point the minors could annually be numbered in the hundreds or thousands. In recent months, tens of thousands of children have come across the border and are now housed in federal facilities across the U.S., the result of failed federal policies and Washington´s indifference to securing the border. I visited one of these facilities in June and saw these children, frightened and alone, who left their homes and families, survived a harrowing trip, and

To the dismay of Jon Stewart, Hillary Clinton did not make her big announcement on "The Daily Show" on Tuesday. The comedian and talk show host opened his interview with the former secretary of state and possible presidential candidate by praising her memoir, "Hard Choices," before pivoting to the question Clinton is asked everywhere she goes. "It´s an incredibly complex and well-reasoned and eyewitness view," Stewart said of the book. "I think I speak for everybody when I say no one cares. They just want to know if you´re running for president. Are you?" "I was going to make an

Constitutional lawyers backing a planned House Republican lawsuit against President Barack Obama told a congressional committee Wednesday that the action is justified because Obama has exceeded his powers in carrying out his health care law. Attorneys allied with Democrats in opposing the suit said it´s the GOP that´s going too far by trying to resolve a political dispute by giving the question to the courts to decide. The lawyers appeared Wednesday before the House Rules Committee, which is considering legislation authorizing the House to file the lawsuit. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has said he wants to take the legal

WASHINGTON — The White House said Tuesday night that it would refuse to allow its director of political strategy to testify Wednesday before a Republican-led House committee investigating whether the administration had illegally conducted political activity in the West Wing. In a letter to Representative Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the president’s top lawyer said that as a member of the executive branch the political director, David Simas, had immunity from being compelled to testify before Congress. Mr. Issa’s committee subpoenaed Mr. Simas last week, contending that the White House should not

Rupert Murdoch´s 21st Century Fox (FOXA.O) said it made a bid to buy media conglomerate Time Warner Inc (TWX.N) but was rebuffed. The bid was worth roughly $80 billion, or $85 per share in cash and stock, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters. Time Warner´s stock jumped 22.5 percent to $87 premarket as the New York Times reported that Murdoch was determined to buy Time Warner and was unlikely to walk away despite the rejection. The new self-serve beer stations at Minnesota´s Target Field might herald the future of stadium concessions - but they are hardly the most incredible food or drink options available nationwide. While the Twins basked in the glory of the latest ballpark innovation which debuted on Sunday, the rest of the country carried on pushing the boundaries of game day fast-food away from simple peanuts and hot dogs. However, nowadays a game is not complete without a selection of calorific monstrosities that would turn the stomach of the carb-conscious and healthy, but delights the average fan. And in that spirit of

WASHINGTON — The White House likes to use a phrase of tingling adventure to describe the president’s recent penchant for wandering the country talking to people: “The bear is loose.” There are three problems with this unbearable metaphor: Barack Obama is not in captivity, he’s not a bear, and he’s not loose. As Voltaire said of the Holy Roman Empire, it was “neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.” When our whippetlike president travels on Air Force One from staged photo-op to staged photo-op and then to coinciding fund-raiser to coinciding fund-raiser, encased by the White House travel behemoth and

Thanks to our friends at Washington Free Beacon, you’ll never have to watch a Barack Obama speech again. Reason being, this 76-second video shows you everything he’s going to say. He will: Tell you it’s great to be back in whatever town he’s in. Tell you to have a seat – twice. Appreciate the introduction. Love you back. Recommend building more roads and bridges. Say the economy grows from the middle out. Say the wealthy have to “pay their fair share.” Blame Republicans in Congress for everything. Encourage you to vote rather than boo.

Bad news for chocolate lovers -- your favorite indulgence is about to get more expensive. Hershey Co., the nation´s leading candy producer, said Tuesday it is raising prices of chocolates such as Kisses, Reese´s, Mounds bars and other candies by 8% to combat increasing food, utility and transportation costs. The costs for cocoa, dairy and nuts have "increased meaningfully since the beginning of the year," said Michele Buck, president of Hershey´s North America, explaining that prices of these commodities "have been volatile and remain at levels that are above historical averages." Cocoa futures jumped to almost a three-year high this
