My car crash TV appearance: trust me, it´s
no fun when you´re in the driving seat

Telegraph (UK), by Tim Stanley

When things go wrong live on air, they call it “car crash TV”, which is a pretty good description of how it feels to those in the driving seat. Terrifying, yet slow-moving enough for you to contemplate the tragic irony just before hitting the lamppost. This week I appeared on a BBC3 show called Free Speech, a show made “for young people by young people” and presented by a young person in trainers. I surveyed the list of panellists to see who was on to play the crazy Right-winger – and realised, by deduction, that it was me. My fellow

Reality Is Crushing
the Obama Presidency
Commentary Magazine, by Peter Wehner    Original Article

Yesterday I wrote a piece on President Obama’s staggering record of failure, including in the foreign-policy arena. Events in the last 24 hours appear to reinforce my case. Here is a story from the front page of today’s New York Times, hardly a right-wing outlet. It’s worth quoting at length: President Obama encountered setbacks to two of his most cherished foreign-policy projects on Thursday, as he failed to achieve a trade deal that undergirds his strategic pivot to Asia and the Middle East peace process suffered a potentially irreparable breakdown.

Before her recent resignation from CBS, Sharyl Attkisson was a mainstream news star. Multiple Emmys. CNN anchor, CBS anchor on stories about space exploration. Host of CBS’ News Up to the Minute. PBS host for Health Week. Investigative reporter for CBS. Attkisson dug deep into Fast&Furious, Benghazi, and the ill-effects of vaccines. Too deep. Her bosses shut her down and didn’t air key stories. She now has her own website, sharylattkisson.com. She is writing a book, Stonewalled: My Fight for the Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation and Harassment in Obama’s Washington.

People are waiting for 2 hours

Feline fanatics waited for up to two hours outside the first-of-its-kind Cat Cafe on the Lower East Side Thursday, just for a chance to play with adorable and adoptable kitties. Cat-food maker Purina ONE and the North Shore Animal League opened what they are billing as the nation’s first such eatery, at 168 Bowery. “I love the cats! I wish I could have an animal in the city,” said student Susanna Mazzoleni, 29, of Astoria. “Cat Cafe was on my bucket list of things to do. I waited for an hour and half.” Purina’s pop-up Cat Cafe consists of two

Amid the controversy over his comments about black Americans, Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy appeared on CNN’s New Day and suggested that if people are offended by his use of the word “Negro” then perhaps Martin Luther King, Jr., did not fully execute his mission. CNN host Chris Cuomo challenged Bundy to concede that even if he is truly concerned about the well-being of blacks, his musing about whether “the Negro” was “better off as slaves, picking cotton” was offensive on a racial level. “I didn’t say it to offend them,” Bundy asserted. “I was trying to ask a question, and

NEW YORK - Police are investigating the discovery of at least two dozen dead cats found inside plastic bags hanging from trees in Yonkers Thursday, according to the SPCA of Westchester. Some of the cats were badly decomposed but others appeared more recently killed. They were found in a wooded lot near Overlook Terrace. The bags were tied up in a row on branches of the trees. City sanitation workers who were in the area for an annual cleanup came across the grisly scene. Some of the cats had been ripped from the bags, apparently by wildlife. Mississippi Could Soon Shut Down
Its Only Abortion Clinic
National Journal, by Sophie Novack    Original Article

Mississippi could soon become the first state in the nation without a single abortion provider. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit is set to hear oral arguments next week regarding a 2012 law that would force the only remaining clinic in the state to close immediately. The legislation is part of a recent wave of antiabortion regulations that have shuttered large numbers of providers in several states. However, the situation in Mississippi is arguably the most extreme, as the state has only one facility offering legal abortions.

It´s not surprising to learn that various governments (not just the United States) account for the bulk of online mischief, but it´s a bit sobering to see the numbers laid out by a new Verizon investigative report, summarized by the UK Telegraph: there has been a 300 percent increase in cyber espionage since last year´s report, and government agents are responsible for 87 percent of it. (11 percent came from organized criminals, which I suppose leaves two percent traceable to random jackasses.) Almost half of the cyber espionage came from China and East Asia, while another 21 percent was sourced to

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) on Wednesday said he isn´t running for president in 2016, telling radio host Hugh Hewitt that he´s not angling for the job. "I am not running for president," Thune said. The South Dakota senator´s presidential stock was perhaps at its highest before the 2012 election, when he passed on running. He also told a group of grade-schoolers last year that it wasn´t in his plans for 2016, either. Thune has been climbing the leadership ladder in the Senate, serving as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference since early 2012. "I know a lot of my colleagues are [running for president],"

They may be good at making movies, but Hollywood celebrities’ lifestyles are far from an environmentalist’s dream. Their globetrotting, multiple mansion owning ways are inconsistent with the environmental agenda they loudly promote. Showtime’s new climate change series, “Years of Living Dangerously,” premiered April 13, 2014, slightly more than a week before Earth Day 2014. It relies on several wealthy, Hollywood celebrities to spread fear about climate change. While these actors and directors talk a lot about reducing carbon footprints and saving the world, they haven’t given up their own enormous mansions and private jets. Some time in the coming months, the Supreme Court will hand down its opinion in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby, the case of the retailer that claims that its religious freedom or that of its employees is violated by contraceptive coverage required as part of the Affordable Care Act. The attitude of the health-care act’s supporters toward such cases is irritation. How dare a little religious case trip up the mighty Affordable Care Act and jeopardize the ACA’s establishment as permanent law of the land? Cases involving religious details, however, do have a way of stopping big social legislation, and not only

The good news about yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling is that it affirmed the right of the people to ban racial preferences in university admissions. The bad news is that it didn´t go further. In 2003, the Court handed down two landmark decisions: Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger. Taken together, the cases struck down a racial quota system used in admissions at the University of Michigan, but allowed for more limited race-based preferences. As Kevin Mooney pointed out, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor said in the Grutter decision that voters have the last say on affirmative action regimes. So the people of

Today is Earth Day. Fox News’ The Five opened its show with a nearly 15 minute segment titled “Earth Day Hysteria.” The goal appeared to be to prove that scientists’ warnings about climate change are overblown and should be ignored if not outright mocked and co-host Eric Bolling was the ringleader of the effort. But he found an adversary in Bob Beckel, who challenged the status quo by presenting actual data on the rise of CO2 levels from NASA, of all places. But before Beckel got to his chart, Bolling took some time to “praise” President Barack Obama for what

Forget the current polling as between Hillary and Elizabeth Warren. It pits Hillary against someone who “isn’t running.” For all my criticisms of Warren, and they are extensive, I am convinced that if she ran, she would crush Hillary, just as Obama did. Warren, as did Obama, has a unique ability to demagogue the core Democratic narrative of victimhood in ways that would make Hillary blush. She is more cunning than Hillary, more popular with the base, would bring an excitement the contrived Ready-for-Hillary movement could only dream of. Democrats may be “ready” for Hillary, but they don’t really want

As new U.S. sanctions against Russia loom, the Kremlin has shut down—at least for now—intensive high level communications between top U.S. and Russian officials. Since the invasion of Crimea, President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama have had regular phone calls in an often half-hearted attempt to deescalate the ongoing crisis inside Ukraine. But as the U.S. and EU prepare to unveil new sanctions against Russia, Putin has decided the interactions should stop. The Kremlin has ended high-level contact with the Obama administration, according to diplomatic officials and sources close to the Russian leadership. The move signals an end to the

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Hillary Rodham Clinton´s faith in God was shaped by her grandmother´s hymns and the bedtime prayers from her gruff Navy father, the former secretary of state told thousands of Methodist women Saturday. Clinton said she struggled as a young woman between her father´s insistence on self-reliance and her mother´s concern for compassion. She reconciled those in the Biblical story of Jesus instructing his disciples to feed 5,000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. "The disciples come to Jesus and suggest they send away the people to find food to fend for themselves. But Jesus

The relationship (or lack thereof) between the mainstream of the Republican party and the tea party has long been pooh-poohed by GOP strategists as standard operating procedure for a party out of the White House. The base and the establishment feud and, in the end, the base falls in line, they argue. But what if the tea party movement represents something new -- and less manageable -- for the establishment heading into the 2016 presidential race?

President Obama’s landslide victory in 2008 was supposed to herald the beginning of a new Democratic era. And yet, six years later, there is not even a clear Democratic majority in the country, let alone one poised for 30 years of dominance. It’s not because Mr. Obama’s so-called new coalition of young and nonwhite voters failed to live up to its potential. They again turned out in record numbers in 2012. The Democratic majority has failed to materialize because the Republicans made large, countervailing and unappreciated gains of their own among white Southerners. From the high plains of West Texas to the

Pick a card, any card. Racist. Sexist. Homophobic. We all knew it was only a matter of time before Democrats/liberals played one or more of their Big Three Cards to silence, intimidate, and crush opposition to their latest power-grab/tyrannical attack on our freedom. With a majority of Americans taking rancher Cliven Bundy´s side against Obama´s BLM thugs, Democrat Harry Reid concluded that it was time to play the old tried-and-true race card. As Gomer Pyle use to say, “surprise, surprise.” We knew it was coming.

In late 2011, nearing the eve of the formal start of the 2012 presidential election cycle, America’s liberal commentators had already watched a series of Republican presidential debates and formed their opinions of the prospective GOP candidates. Most determined that former Massachusetts governor and eventual nominee, Mitt Romney, was an unsavory conservative, but he was a preferable alternative to his Republican competition. In fact, the left-leaning political press was so much more concerned about Romney’s arch-conservative competitors that they were willing to overlook the former governor’s offenses to liberal

Another ridiculous politically-correct brouhaha has broken out at Dartmouth College, America’s most hopelessly and disturbingly fragile Ivy League school. This time, the fracas is over a fundraiser for cardiac care that the Phi Delta Alpha fraternity and the Alpha Phi sorority had planned to jointly sponsor, reports Campus Reform. Problems arose because a single student, junior Daniela Hernandez, was offended by the party’s theme of “Phiesta.” As a result, the soiree, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled by the presidents of the respective Greek organizations. Had the party happened, it would have included a live band as well as virgin piña coladas

Three weeks ago, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) responded with a simple message to the news that Affordable Care Act enrollment had exceeded expectations: “House Republicans will continue to work to repeal this law.” Three weeks later, it appears even Boehner doesn’t believe Boehner’s bluster. Speaker John A. Boehner said Thursday that changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act make it impossible to just repeal the health care law unless Congress has a replacement ready as well. Speaking at a Rotary Club meeting in his Ohio district … Boehner said simply repealing the Affordable Care Act “isn’t the

Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a stern warning to Russia Thursday evening, one week after a tentative agreement to defuse the crisis in Ukraine appeared to have no impact on the violent clashes between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian government. "The window to change course is closing," Kerry told reporters at the State Department. "President [Vladimir] Putin and Russia face a choice." If Russia does not reverse course and take action to urge the separatists to stand down and give up their arms, Kerry said the U.S. and its allies are poised to take actions directed at hurting Russia´s economy.
