Climate Report Predicts Dire
Threats for People, Including
Food, Water Shortages

A planet warmed by human-produced greenhouse gases poses significant risks already to people, cities and nations today and not just in the far-off future, according to a report the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will release at the end of this week. And those risks could mean "abrupt or drastic changes" that could lead to unstoppable and irreversible climate shifts like the runaway melting of Greenland´s glacial ice or the rapid drying out of South America´s Amazon rainforest, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The dangers of a warming Earth aren´t limited to animals like polar bears. They´re immediate and very human,

The pictures after the article showing various famous landmarks submerged after the onslaught of Global Luke Warming were interesting. Particularly the Sydney Opera House. It could add drama to operas such as Wagner´s Flying Dutchman.

"It is now pretty clearly agreed that the C02 content will rise 25% by 2000. This could increase the average temperature near the earth´ s surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit. This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York.
Goodbye Washington, for that matter. We have no data on Seattle."

A warmer world is a wetter world. Simple physics. More water evaporates from the oceans, increasing precipitation. Actually, there is a negative feedback built into this by the clouds shielding out sunlight. There can be no "runaway" anything.
But this isn´t about science now, is it?

Actually, any shortages, ´´Including Food, Water Shortages,´´ are now, & no doubt will be in the future, due to disastrous policies pushed by the environmentalist wackos & statist pols seeking to centralize their PC power. Currently consider their man-made policies such as cutting off water for produce farmers in Calif., using corn for that destructive ethanol in the Midwest, preventing the building of Keystone to safely transport oil, preventing the building of refineries and new clean coal plants, bad forest management policies, etc.!

#6 Not necessarily. Warmer oceans causes more evaporation. To warm the ocean just one degree would take each family on the planet, to detonate a 1.5B - megaton bomb. It´s not the air that warms the ocean, it´s the ocean that warms the air. Think about being outside on a 45 degree day or being in water that´s the same temperature. What causes ocean warming are undersea volcano´s, not a rise in air temperature.

It always comes back to the dinner table with this guy. The 75-year-old Pakistani immigrant convicted in Brooklyn of beating his wife to death because she served him lentils instead of goat should get the minimum sentence, his lawyer argued Wednesday — because the lack of Pakistani food behind bars will be a hardship. “His inability to speak English and his inability to have Pakistani food will make his incarceration even more difficult than the average inmate,” defense attorney Julie Clark wrote in court papers seeking the minimum 15 years to life sentence for Noor Hussain. But prosecutor Sabeeha Madni

Happy 158th birthday, Nikola Tesla. The anniversary of the Serbian-American inventor´s birth will be celebrated Thursday with cake and a flag-raising ceremony at his former laboratory in Shoreham, followed by discussions of his work at Shoreham-Wading River High School. Both events are free. Tesla, who was born July 10, 1856, in Croatia, has been credited with developing wireless technologies and devising some of the major components used in modern radio and electricity. Tesla achieved local fame in the early 20th century when he worked for about 12 years in a Shoreham lab called Wardenclyffe, at Route 25A and Randall Road.

If you’re an American, you might not flinch when you hear a certain bumpy green citrus fruit referred to as a kaffir lime. But in many parts of the world—most notably South Africa—the common moniker for the fruit, best known as an ingredient in Southeast Asian cooking, sounds heinously offensive. As Veronica Vinje recently pointed out on Straight.com, kaffir is “a horrible racial epithet, akin to using the N-word in North America.” So why are these limes called by that name? The K-word has a long, complex history, but how it came to refer to a type of citrus fruit is a bit murky. The Arabic word kafir was originally used to refer to
