How to thwart a gunman at 29,000 feet,
by the only pilot who ever did

Times of Israel, by Mitch Ginsburg

Original Article

With the world’s attention focused on Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, a retired El Al pilot, a veteran of five armed hijacking attempts and plots, including one movie-worthy standoff at 29,000 feet, splashed some local brandy into his afternoon tea. “When you don’t know, you just don’t know,” Uri Bar-Lev said of the fate of the airliner, speaking two weeks after it dropped off the radar. Then, while he was folding the Hebrew paper, which was splayed open to the MH370 story of the day, came an endearingly familiar routine, the ritual dance performed by so many Israelis of Bar-Lev’s 1948

FTA: Before take-off, El Al’s security officer on duty at the airport told the pilot that there were four suspicious people seeking to board the flight. Two held Senegalese passports with consecutive numbers; two others, a couple, carried less suspicious looking Honduran passports, but all had ordered their tickets at the last minute.
And this: "Three other planes, in what Bar-Lev called a more complex attack than 9-11, had been hijacked."

They were doing this 44 years ago! And the US has NEVER followed their example. Why? Afraid to hurt a terrorist´s feelings?

Amazing story - should be a ´Must Read´.

Patriotism of Liberal Americans

You wouldn’t think, five years into the Obama presidency, that so many liberal Americans wouldn’t like America. A new Pew survey found that 44 percent of Americans don’t often feel pride in being an American, and only 28 percent said that America is the greatest country in the world. Respondents who “often feel proud to be American” were overwhelmingly conservative (from 72 percent to 81 percent depending on the kind of conservative). A majority (60 percent) of “solid liberals” said they don’t often feel proud to be an American. The polling data only proves what has been obvious for a

So much for secular stagnation. Thanks to the headline figures and revisions for previous months contained in the Labor Department’s jobs report for June, which was released a day early because of the July 4th holiday, we know that, since the end of March, the economy has generated more than a quarter of a million jobs a month. For June, the payroll figure was 288,000, well above economists’ expectations. During the past three months, the unemployment rate has fallen from 6.7 per cent to 6.1 per cent, and it’s now at its lowest level since Lehman Brothers collapsed in the fall

FIFA´s No. 2 official has said he´s "amazed" by the levels of drunkenness in Brazil´s World Cup stadiums, reviving a debate over whether alcohol sales should have been allowed at matches in the first place. In an interview with Brazil´s sports television network SporTV, Jerome Valcke acknowledged Monday that "maybe there were too many people who were drunk" at the matches and pointed to the connection between inebriation and violence. Brazil banned alcohol sales at soccer matches in 2003 in a bid to curb fan violence. But Budweiser is a major World Cup sponsor and the tournament´s organizer, FIFA, insisted Brazil

Non-Citizen Driver’s Licenses

DENVER - A new kind of driver’s license for non-citizens will soon be available but even before the Department of Motor Vehicles can issue them, advance requests are clogging up the system. Tens of thousands of drivers in Colorado are calling the DMV to register for the new ID which is clogging the system. Those licenses are the result of a law passed last year that aims to improve public safety by making sure every driver in Colorado, regardless of their legal status, has a license. The law doesn’t take effect until Aug. 1 but the DMV began making appointments

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has declared itself a caliphate, renamed The Islamic State, and named its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the caliph, and demanded that all Muslims worldwide pledge allegiance to him. Al-Baghdadi has called upon all Muslims to relocate to his caliphate to wage war against non-Muslims. Many have ridiculed and denigrated this declaration; few have realized its implications. The restoration of the caliphate has for decades been the central goal of jihad groups worldwide. The caliphate (khilafa) was from the beginnings of Islam until the early twentieth century, at least among Sunnis (who constitute

The organization responsible for securing America’s highly sensitive nuclear sites has been suffering from a “chaotic” and “dysfunctional” security policy that has endangered the country’s nuclear sites and left them vulnerable to attack, according to a new report by the government’s watchdog group. The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which is tasked with managing the nation’s nuclear stockpile and securing classified research sites, has “increased risks and reduced security” over the past several years in a bid to reduce overhead costs, according to a new Government Accountability Office (GAO) report. Security vulnerabilities at these NNSA sites still persist two years after a

On Tuesday afternoon, President Barack Obama continued his streak of railing against Republican “obstructionism” in Congress, taunting the rival party for “doing nothing” while threatening legal action against the president to curb executive authority. Speaking near the Key Bridge in Washington, D.C., Obama implored Congress to continue funding for the Federal Highway Trust Fund, and suggested that the political system is currently rigged in favor of those who aren’t in need, by those lawmakers who refuse to take action. “So far this year, Republicans in Congress have blocked or voted down every serious idea to strengthen the middle class—not ideas that are

President Obama will acknowledge Monday that there is no hope for legislation overhauling the immigration system in Congress this year and announce he is redirecting immigration enforcement from the interior of the United States to the border. The action, which beefs up efforts to stem illegal immigration across the border but could slow efforts to deport undocumented immigrants already in the country, is one of series of executive actions Obama will pledge since the House decided not to take up immigration legislation this year. The announcement represents the ends of hopes in the White House and elsewhere that the House might pursue legislation to strengthen the nation’s borders and immigration enforcement while also providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. The Senate passed such a bill last year.

Here’s one political paradox: A substantial majority of Americans do not fit neatly into the conventional “liberal” and “conservative” boxes, yet there is no coherent political center. Those who dream of a middle-of-the-road third party are destined to be disappointed. Here’s another: Groups broadly sympathetic to the Democratic Party significantly outnumber those sympathetic to the Republican Party. But in the smaller but influential universe of the ideologically committed, conservative Republicans outnumber liberal Democrats. The larger Democratic coalition has mixed convictions while the smaller Republican core is filled with passionate intensity. Every decade or so, the Pew Research Center sorts the U.S. electorate

Michelle Obama took some heat in 2008 for saying that, "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country..." As it turns out, that sentiment isn´t all that unusual on the far left of American politics. According to a new Pew Research Center study, only 40 percent of consistently liberal Americans say they often feel proud to be Americans. The other 60 percent say that doesn´t describe them. The finding is contained in Pew´s new "Political Typology" report, which breaks Americans down into seven different categories -- rather than the usual three. Among the seven categories, "solid liberals"

A charter plane believed to be carrying immigrants arrived this evening at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, apparently from Texas. Earlier this week, federal officials said that 140 immigrants who had been detained crossing the border in Texas would arrive Friday. But since the blockade by protesters Tuesday at Murrieta, officials have declined to provide information about the movement of the immigrants.

The Obamas have spent over 44 million dollars in taxpayer money on travel and vacations. Some are even calling him the “most well-trvaeled, expensive” president in our nation’s history. As Americans head off for the long holiday weekend, let’s take a look back at some of the president’s holiday spending. Our president vacations a lot — we’re talking $44,351,777.12 worth of “a lot,” with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer. As of March 2014, Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other president, taking 31 trips since assuming office in 2009. The 119 days spent overseas have
