The Worst Wing- How the East Wing
shrank Michelle Obama

New Republic, by Reid Cherlin

Original Article

In the fall of 2010, the nasty midterms drawing to a close, Michelle Obama was contemplating her next move. Two years into her tenure as first lady, the breathless fixation on guest lists and china selections was subsiding into routine, and she wanted a plan for the rest of her husband’s time in office. Of course, her calendar would never lack for National Hostess duties—the obligatory social functions outlined in binders left by Laura Bush’s team. She had already launched Let’s Move!, the childhood obesity initiative, and Joining Forces, a program to help military families and veterans, was also in

The first paragraph was misleading. I don´t recall her being an accomplished lawyer before moving on up to the WH. Her friend Valerie got her jobs which she did not do well. She finally gave up her license to practice law. Let´s get our facts straight.

She quit being a lawyer after she left her law firm. She went to work for Jarrett in the Daley administration (not the law dept.) and then to the U of Chicago Hospitals as a "community relations liaison" (ie, diverting patients out of the ER). The latter job paid her over $300K a year! Of course, she just happened to be married to a US Senator.

I started to read this. Then I realized what it was saying. Moochelle is an incredibly insecure woman. Trying desperately to BE Somebody and never sure that she is up to the task (with good reason), she puts the screws to everyone around her. But because of her innate insecurity, she cannot give them specific direction, so they are left to give it their best guess and effort and desperately hope that they are correct and it works out.

An article about her fashion designer wardrobe probiders gave me the first clue. They never receive any specifics (even size is estimated as she will not do fittings), nor do they get a good idea of just what she wants. It may be a color - "a great blue" - or a snippet of fabric. They design, they make clothes (if they are smart) that can be altered (taken in or let out). And they never know whether it will be worn or not, often finding that out when they read the paper and see a photo.

I worked for a company where the CEO once said "I´m the only one who knows where the goalpost is". He was a dreamy all-over-the-map thinker with not a shred of executive ability. It was hell.

"Shrank"? I don´t think so. There was nothing there to shrink. A walking Peter Principle, through affirmative action she had reached the level of her incompetency. And there were too many people, tasked with building her up and making her look good, who saw right through her.

Her office is known for having a revolving door. Most normal humans cannot work with such a weak despot.

She has "a rare political gift?" Really?

She is nothing but an angry witch (substitute b for w) who expects everyone around her to do all the work with no input. When it fails, she can blame everyone else.

She only works three days a week. Because she doesn´t get paid for her position she gets her compensation by taking expensive extensive vacations on the taxpayers dime.

I pity anyone who works for her, but then again, they got what they asked for when they applied for the job.

Can anyone imagine Laura Bush acting this way?

A few items jumped out at me:

1. Accomplished lawyer? All she accomplished was to surrender her law license under still-unexplained circumstances.
2. Electrifying speaker? If you mean I want to eletrocute myself everytime I hear her nagging Aunt Esther ABW (Angry Black Woman) screech, then yes.
3. She´s the "Ultimate straight-A student"? What is your proof? Or Barack´s grade, for that matter.
4. Her husband ´derives visible pleasure from his ability to improvise´? Huh? Without the TelePrompTer, he is an inarticulate clown. As Johnny Carson once observed about some comedian: He couldn´t ad lib some intestinal gas at a bean-eating contest.
5. Nice use of sprinkled obscenity in the article.
6. ValJarJar is Moochelle´s ´self-appointed enforcer´? Also Barky´s. Sheesh.
7. Mooch had an initiative called "Drink Up"? Who knew? Hell, I´ve been doing that ever since Nov 2008.
Overall sounds like her office would be sheer hell to work in. There´s only one part of Mooch that needs ´shrinking´...

There was once a copy of Mooch´s final year term paper when at Princeton. Pedestrian, semi-literate, grade school level were some of the more charitable descriptions. It has long since vanished and what we have left is a despicable poster child of affirmative action. Taking, taking, taking all the way.

Number #6 nails it, IMO. She is insecurity personified. Speeches written in stone months ahead? Concrete, guaranteed goals before she commits to any event? Inability to hear an idea in the formative stages from staff?

This woman is demanding that whatever success she is perceived to have (at least by her liberal worshipers) be handed to her on a silver platter by her servants. She knows she´s not up to her position and she´s terrified of being found out. Her scorn of the press on this China trip will turn out to be a huge tactical error. Some of the worms seem to be turning now.

Last January 2013, then Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, ordered the Joint Chiefs of Staff to study the feasibility of opening all military jobs to women by 2016. This would include more than 200,000 jobs that make up the core of the ground-level combat force in the Army and the Marine Corps. Opponents of women in combat argue, rightly in my opinion, that the military´s physical standards must not be compromised to expand access because our military´s fighting effectiveness is at stake. Hauling 50 pounds of equipment while walking 20 miles is a standard that must not be demoted as it

I did not listen to the secret audio tape of Mr. Sterling so I can´t comment on his remarks. The Washington Post reports on the Obama administration’s latest effort to sow global warming panic: The satellite images viewed by President Barack Obama before a meeting with eight Western governors were stark, showing how snowpack in California’s mountains had shrunk by 86 percent in a single year. “It was a ‘Houston, we have a problem’ moment,” recalled White House counselor John Podesta, one of two aides who briefed the president that February day. Obama mentioned the images several times as he warned the governors that political leaders had no choice but to cope with global warming’s impact. This is beyond stupid. Seriously: is

The popular television series Scandal has developed a cult-like following in recent years, but how accurate are the show’s story lines? Are there firms that are able to “fix” politicians’ messes? Can elections be rigged by tampering with voting machines? Do agencies exist that operate outside the boundaries of traditional government oversight with unlimited budgets? In at least one case, the answer is yes. In the fictional Washington of ABC’s Scandal, B613 is a super-secret spy agency that operates outside the bounds of the federal government, using its assets to “protect the Republic.” Similar to B613, the real-life Consumer Financial Protection

The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School.
