Perry seeks out tax-weary Californians
Union-Tribune [San Diego, CA], by Steven Greenhut

Original Article

Posted By:clw54, 3/24/2014 11:37:07 PM

Sacramento — Bob Lanier, a Texas-drawled Democrat who was Houston’s mayor throughout most of the 1990s, told a meeting I attended a few years ago that he fled his blue-collar hometown for Houston because it is an “open city” – a place where anyone from any background could succeed (or fail) based on his own merits. I haven’t been to Houston for ages, but I’ve known more than a few people who have fled California’s pristine scenery for the swampland and dusty plains of Texas. They didn’t leave for the landscape or the fresh air, but for the kind of economic opportunities that Lanier was talking about.

Comments:
Texas Governor Perry has been running local radio ads here in San Diego, inviting businesses to move to Texas. Hopefully Atlas will shrug here in this once great state.

Please note corrections & post properly as shown. LCom Staff.

Dear Californians, as a Texan, I need to inform you of something Gov. Perry may have failed to tell you. If you decide to move here...we have rules. You can NOT move to Texas unless you promise, swear, and take an oath to register and vote conservative. FOREVER. Okay..you have been told.

Dear Texans, as a Californian I encourage you to stop these people at the border and send them back here. No, I don´t like them and they´ve ruined my state, but it´s already ruined. Don´t let them come to Texas and destroy it too.

You´ve been warned.

Swampland and dusty plains? I think this guy needs to come to Texas and see more than he obviously remembers from western movies. We have a lot more than dust, swamps and economic opportunity. He DID get that part right. And don´t come here from California if you want to keep voting like most Californians. If you are a conservative, then come on over. You are welcome here.

Not sure he should invite voting age liberals from CA to take over Texas.

It would be like all of the liberals in the NE that headed down 1-95 to Flor ri duh to avoid taxes.

I think inviting fruits and nuts of CA (I used to be CA but not the lib type) to Texas is big mistake. They are brain dead stupid having elected Jerry the Pedophile Brown 2x as governor tho his disastrous 1st term should have earned him a Go To Jail card for life. He gave us Rose Bird. The education is so dismal you will have lots of little greenie robots ready to vote lib at every turn and we all know that libs never stop no matter what defeats they suffer. They are like termites, boring deeper and deeper into the wood. You will need massive offense to exterminate and neuter their votes, legal and illegal. I say libs stay in CA where you can enjoy the neighborly life with illegals who trash your neighborhoods and live off food stamps and pop out babies because they have nothing better to do.And enjoy the non-education your children get who score low on every test known to man but have great self-esteem. It´s disgusting. So glad I left CA.

Liberals do not have the common sense or logic to realize there are better places than California. I´m not worried about the odd libard that stumbles into Texas. We will throw them into Austin so we can keep an eye on them. Most people that want to leave California have the common sense and logic to realize the Utopian fantasies of their liberal fools will never allow California to prosper.

#9, you and I know that the writer´s image of Texas is shared with many whose only view of the state was the old Highway 80 route, now Interstate 10/20 straight across from El Paso to the Louisiana border. That route does show our "dusty plains" and, near Louisiana, some "swampland". But, what is missed is the beautiful Gulf coast, the Chisos mountains, our lovely piney woods, the hill country (I dare anyone to visit Leakey and believe Texas not to be beautiful)

California needs to address their "man made business climate", and the democrats that made it toxic.

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
