De Morgen apologises for Obama cartoon
De Redactie*, by Michael Torfs

Original Article

Posted By:wetenschapper, 3/24/2014 7:59:55 AM

The Flemish daily De Morgen has offered apologies for the Obama cartoon that was shown in its satirical section "The Daily Herald" on Saturday. The digital collage compares the Obamas with monkeys and triggered numerous international reactions. De Morgen says they made an error of judgement.

Comments:
From the Belgian news website, De Redactie (The Editors), *which calls its English-language page "Flanders News". The Flemish newpaper De Morgan has really stepped into it with this cartoon, which I offer here without further comment.

Apologies are indeed in order. No one has less regard for the President than I, but this "cartoon" was offensive and I´m glad there were protests.

Poor taste and inappropriate indeed.......primarily because the only persons who have been made to look like monkeys are the dopes that voted for him...

"That was a risk we didn´t consider enough beforehand...We wrongly assumed that racism is no longer accepted, and that in this way it could be the subject of a joke"

The part that really galls is the almost incessant ´reminders´ of how advanced and superior the residents of the E.U. are. This is Belgium for goodness sake...they look down their noses at America as the great unwashed and then, after pulling this, they say...´we didn´t understand"?

I guess a few words of explanation are in order here. If one reads the article closely, it´s apparent that De Morgan did not intend this as an affront to the Obamas, but were suggesting that this was the way the Vladimir Putin -the intended satirical target - sees them. In Europe, as in the United States, there is no shortage of race-baiters quick to take offense, whether this was intended or not.

Bad taste and offensive.

The world certainly seems less impressed with Obama than we were assured that it would be back in 2008

I´m tired of apologies. They mean absolutely nothing anymore. They are pretty much issued with every public statement.
Offensive? Yes, to Americans. We are offended by everything, including people who are offended. In that respect we arent much better than Moslems. The rest of the world isn´t nearly so thin skinned.

This isn´t 2007 anymore the globe has finally come around to their senses about the dupes in the White House with their cabal of misfits while the world burns. Thank Putin for this because he probably sees the Obamas like this just the PC crowd are ashamed of it. The Obamas want the spotlight well they have it.
The damage is done no need to apologise now.

That pic is gnarly, no doubt.

Having said that, I´m down with #3 and #6.

I get it why mooch is always ready to trash-talk stinky whenever she gets the chance.

Everything is always about him and she knows the low-down, and his farcical words and actions do nothing other than make her look irrelevant and ridiculous.

Yes, she is our Antoinette, but this isn´t what she wanted. I figure she started out pretty good and pretty lucky, only to fall into stinky´s tar baby.

Good luck, God bless; go the hell away.

Play with your post-royal trinkets and disappear. You owe us that, and nothing else.

In poor taste... maybe. Offensive? Yes, in a sort of ´don´t make fun of my President´ sort of way but, turn-about is fair play, or so they say. Besides, I find what this President is doing to our nation to be extremely offensive and, I´m guessing he just doesn´t care.

Go ahead, he´s a Marxist, he deserves to be the butt of every joke possible. I don´t like him or his ´let them eat arugula´ wife. He/they are not ´Presidential,´ they are acting as though they are Monarchs and, we in this country decided long ago that we weren´t interested in that form of government.

So where is the insult?

If a person acts like a monkey (steals from others and is happy), talks like a monkey (well monkeys don´t talk and some could take a lesson from that vs. lying all the time), and walks like a monkey, (ever see him strut?)...guess what...

The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
