The climate change deniers have won
Observer (U.K.), by Nick Cohen

Original Article

The American Association for the Advancement of Science came as close as such a respectable institution can to screaming an alarm last week. "As scientists, it is not our role to tell people what they should do," it said as it began one of those sentences that you know will build to a "but". "But human-caused climate risks abrupt, unpredictable and potentially irreversible changes." In other words, the most distinguished scientists from the country with the world´s pre-eminent educational institutions were trying to shake humanity out of its complacency. Why weren´t their warnings leading the news? In one sense, the association´s appeal

In science, only the facts win. Science doesn´t care who or how many are on which "side". Science is not politics. Only verified facts matter. It´s about reality, morons.

Absolutely pathetic rant and whine about how stupid people are not pay heed to the alarmist prophets of doom. The language is extreme and colorful (mass extinction, bloody) as people that drive political agendas have learned how to make them to scare you into compliance.

And as with most liberal screed, the author takes a selfie but then tries to apply it negatively to the opposition. "They had given up so much for their faith that they would believe anything rather than admit their sacrifices had been pointless." That is the exact position of the Alarmists at this point, the collapse of their Alarmist religion. Most hard science is refuting them. Temperatures have not risen for 17 years, glaciers have not disappeared, sea ice is abundant, harsh winters and record cold abound, sea level rise has not accelerated, hurricanes and tornados are at 30+ year lows.

What does this author site? The IPCC, which has steadily been criticized for misrepresenting and distorting the studies it incorporates. With every release the original predicted catastrophe recedes. Another round or two and the consensus will be that man is definitely to blame but not much is going to happen. Yawn.

The Alarmists, without proof, cry "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!" They, with the possibility of lung, pancreatic, or liver cancer would advocate the proactive removal of lungs, pancreas, and liver.

And they wonder why the rest of us are starting to ignore them.

If you want to pass a sleepless night pondering liberal insanity, read some of the comments after the article.

Hey Cohen, the "deniers" won because none of the hyperventilating predictions of the "scientists" has come to pass.

This article is so misguided it is actually funny. Before it became funny he trotted out the standby of GW deniers and then wrote: "The evidence for man-made global warming is as final as the evidence of Auschwitz. No other word will do." But then came the funny part. He noted a "end-of-time" prophet whose prediction didn´t come to pass as an example of "cognitive dissonance." Then he argued GW deniers share a similar cognitive dissonance, when in fact it is the ongoing advocates of GW whose predictions have not come to pass who are more accurately those swallowed up by cognitive dissonance. I got a good laugh out of it.

I view the global warming people as statists who are abusing science for their misguided delusions about the true nature of global warming. They are the ones suffering from cognitive dissonance when their little computer models do not match up with the observable facts, they resort to calling skeptics names rather than try to defend their defective models with logical arguments because there are none. They are not all that altruistic as their economic well-being is tied up in their ability to con governments to fund their livelihoods as "scientists".

Use of the Scientific Method can PROVE a hypothesis.
Perpetual belief in a hypothesis without PROOF is RELIGION.
"Deniers" essentially are infidels in the eyes of such religious zealots, who will seek to marginalize, delegitimize, and blacklist those who show such disbelief. Some of these zealots actually propose imprisoning such disbelievers, just because they have a different opinion, because such belief threatens THEIR belief. Generally, sane people rebel when such zealots attempt to control every energy-related human activity based on nothing but threats and alarmism.

We all win when real science wins, we all lose when real science ceases. By the actions of those involved, they can be judged. Who stands by, embraces, the scientific method? Who on the other hand is attempting to stifle, corrupt, full and open inquiry? One side stands to profit mightily from ending the inquiry. Can you guess who?
Again, by their actions, they are known.

Yes, the climate changes. But, these changes are not provably man-made. The Earth has been warmer, colder, wetter and drier long before man appeared on Earth.

During the last 15 years, the seas were supposed to rise several feet, average temperatures rise several degrees and droughts were supposed to be everywhere.

This did not happen! And, it is hard to convince anybody with snow up to their knees that they are experiencing global warming.

Thus, the switch to "climate change."

But Cohen is ruing the fact that folks are not convinced and many of the comments that follow the article infer that moneyed interests (you know, those ugly job creators) are behind the ´denialist" movement. Hogwash! There are thousands of scientists (myself included) who have looked into the data, the models, and climate history and found the anthropegenic climate change theory wanting -- and its claims of doom and gloom totally without merit. And, for the record, I don´t own any oil or energy stocks. One surmises that Mr. Cohen is upset because ordinary folks have seen through this massive hoax. hoaI I

Petulent Cohen writes:

"If they [deniers] admitted they were wrong on climate change, they might have to admit that they were wrong on everything else and their whole political identity would unravel."

Substitute "warmists" for deniers and the sentence works even better. It´s absolutely amazing that Cohen does not see/admit that he and the warmists are the cultists. They invented global warming to frighten all the sensible people of the world into all the political, economic and social changes that are the leftist cult.

I am about to give my lecture on how global cooling was responsible for Frankenstein. In 1816, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, Lord Byron and some of their friends went to Lake Geneva for a nice summer of sailing and enjoyment. Because of the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia, that summer was terribly cold in the northern hemisphere. Mary Shelley and her friends had to stay indoors more often than not and they passed the time telling stories. She wrote her story down and Frankenstein has been in print ever since.

The evidence for man-made global warming is as final as the evidence of Auschwitz. No other word will do.

They are going to be very embarrassed when the "deniers" turn out to be right.

Their denial fits perfectly with their support for free market economics, opposition to state intervention and hatred of all those latte-slurping, quinoa-munching liberals, with their arrogant manners and dainty hybrid cars, who presume to tell honest men and women how to live.

Well, spot on, gov. But it isn´t merely that. It is that even in the face of the IPCC and other groups actually denying that man is the cause of the two-way climate changes, the Left still lies about 97% of scientists believing that global changes in weather/climate are man´s fault.

Poor Mr. Cohen. He´s veritably awash in his own urine.

I just ask these people to show me a climate prediction they have made that came true. Then I ask them to show me the pictures of the Arctic Ocean ice-free last Summer, as they DID predict. Then I ask them why I should trust researchers who refuse to publish their raw data, email each other about hiding data that shows pre-industrial warming greater than today, and sue to thwart FOIA orders from being enforced against publicly funded research.

By this time they have usually called me a racist.

The Global warming thing is ... oh wait climate change now.. a scam and the highest levels to make scientist and politicians rich off taxpayers money. A lot of scientist out there are as intellectually corrupt as can be.
There is how the scam works- government and political groups fund studies. For example-If a "scientist" wants to study the mating habits of the polar bear- study denied!! So "scientist" needs money to fund his salary and research so now he write a proposal- "I want to study mating habits of polar bears and the negative effects of global warming/ climate change" Study funded. Problem is the "study" has a predetermined conclusion, that climate change has negative impact of polar bears. Theny these idiots go out and use the science to push their agenda to promote themselves- please poor stupid people send me money so I can save the world. Politicians send me money so I can pass legislation to save you! All of it is pure BS.

Its really simple- the earth revolves around the sun and the earth rotates on a "wobbly" axis, the sun doesn´t put off a constant energy- it fluctuates. This it why there were warmer and cooler temperature periods throughout earth´s history.

There appears to be a very large number of people who claim to believe in science, yet turn to unsophisticated accounts of climate change and poll numbers instead of good science.

Better journalism can surely help. Schools that offer degrees in journalism must encourage more science majors to enter the profession, those fully capable of reading and interpreting scientific research.

Yes, the climate changes and is changing. the arrogance comes from thinking that mankind plays a significant role and that we can somehow prevent it. Until we can stop volcanic activity, sun spots and ocean thermals we can do nothing to stem the evolution of weather. It all comes down to man imagining himself as God.

Poster #35 laid it out perfectly. Far too many people simply believe that any person that has a claim to be a "scientist" is always right and correct in all that they do. The real facts are that they are scientists that are just as corruptible as anyone else. And more than a few have, as #35 pointed out, figured out how to scam the system in order to receive grants from all sorts of organizations and the federal government. Living on a federal grant beats the daylights out of having to go out and find a JOB. However, there are those like Mr. Cohen that will believe just about anything that fits into there beliefs. This type of person thinks that the government has all the answers and can make everything ever so smoothly. They never take the time to look behind the curtain at who is pulling the strings or try to figure out what there motive really is.

If they really want to counter the deniers then all they have to do is release all the raw data from ALL the thermometers around the world that they claim is the source for their conclusions so that others can analyze the data and come to same conclusions. That is the true scientific process. Pier review. Repeatable analysis. But these people hold on to that data as if it is top secret. On the few occasions some of the data has been acquired by outsiders, it has been shown that the GW scientists have made huge jumps in logic, made errors, and committed outright fraud.

During the ´70´s, we heard about "global cooling," and the coming of a second ice age. The northern US was going to be swept up under massive glaciers and everyone else would be wearing sweaters and parkas due to the constant cold weather.

In the ´90´s and ´00´s, we heard from algore about GLOBAL AL AL WARMING ING ING (echo for more dire effect). The seas were going to rise due to the now-MELTING glaciers and flood the coasts and many island nations and we could forget about ever seeing snow again in our lifetimes.

Now we have climate change and who knows what the heck is going to happen?!?!! The alarmists say it will be overly cold AND overly hot. We will have more storms and LESS storms. They cannot agree on the degree to which we will suffer but suffer we will!!!!

Call me a "denier" if you will, but IMHO, climate change in all of its various forms is simply a hoax created by liberals to ensnare the ignorant and gullible to help give them more power over the lives of the American public.

The article actually states that the evidence for MMGW is as certain as
the evidence at Auschwitz for the Holocaust.

It also states that more than 2000 published scientific papers are
in a 97 percent consensus favoring MMGW as real and proven beyond doubt.

If you don´t actually read what these authors and writers are up to...
you might be lulled or tricked into letting your guard down.

Nick Cohen is absolutely certain he is right, and that "deniers"
are all liars and/or mentally ill.
And they are funded by right wing billionaires and only want to
believe in whatever supports free markets.

This is hardly anything to rejoice about.
This catty little male witch is obviously intent on having his way.
It is far far from over yet.

We must remain vigilant...

There was the Global Warming Petition Project with over 31,000 signatories advising that our government should not sign Kyoto or make any policies based on the glow-bull warming theory.

http://www.petitionproject.org/

I propose a required contract for all warming/climate change believers to sign if they want to be involved in policy matters. It would simply state that they agree with their dire predictions so deeply, that if the predictions do not prove true by, say 2020, that they will be stripped of all science related credentials and associated pensions, they would never be allowed to work in a science related field again, and they would be required to return any grant money that originated from the tax payers. Similar to when an architect designs a building that collapses, he loses his license and faces severe financial penalties.

There would be no defense that it was theory since they’re stating it as fact. My father used to say, “Talk is cheap, it takes money to buy whiskey”, and, “Time to put your money where your mouth is”. A true believer would be willing to bet the farm, so to speak. Only then would I listen to some of what they say.

The warmest/changers stand on the self made mount of importance to wave their hand over the multitudes of the populaces, to have them kneel to their demands for compliance! The omnipresence adrenaline must be over-whelming! But to have the populaces flip them the bird is so devastating to the ego!

When the proponents of global warming have to change the description of their propaganda to climate change in the middle of their campaign, you know the jig is up. I guess that global warming has lost its meaning when everyone east of California are freezing their butts off. When a new name was needed, what else but Polar Vortex.

There is always the explanation that state ´the coldest since the 1938 and 1912 cold spells´. Well, what did they do back in 1912 or even say the 1850´s to cause all that climate change.

Perhaps part of the change, is that forest fires would burn unhindered for months back in the good old days. Perhaps we need more of that to fight cold spells. Also when Al Gore is buying beach property after publically stating the oceans were going to rise by a great deal because of global warming, you know the fix is in.

By the way, I don´t think there are many ´pre-eminent educational institutions´ in this country anymore. Just mindless liberal propaganda mills.

There are no climate change deniers save perhaps for tiny children and those with a learning disability. Anyone who is old enough to understand the definition of climate and has learned about earth´s history of glaciations or ´ice ages´ and the days of the dinosaurs knows the climate changes. The only question is, does man change the climate and if he does, is he now changing it enough to be dangerous to mankind? The author might be surprised to find out that, of the people he dubs ´climate change deniers,´ very few think man does not change the climate, they just think man doesn`t change it enough to be dangerous. What´s the proof? Well, one might say almost two decades of zero warming while the CO2 levels continue to increase as fast as ever is one reason but that´s not really necessary. During the age of the dinosaurs the CO2 levels were 10 times what they are today and temperatures many degrees warmer than now yet the flora and fauna was much more prolific than it is now. Warmth and CO2 are apparently very good for life, yet the author is sure that we´ll be wiped out if the CO2 doubles in a hundred years or so. Sheesh, breathe into a paper bag.

If there were a shred of truth or a hint of a fact associated with this glo-bull warming hoax, we would expect to see something different. It does not exist.

I could think of a dozen reasons why the world would be better off with 75% less population than today, but combating AGW is not one of them! Even it it were, I would not be ready to choose which 3 or 4 billion to kill to get rid of their "carbon footprints."

BTW, why is it that before left-wing radical eco-nut scientists started getting grants to "find" evidence of AGW, was the most recent period of "global warming" referred to as the "Medieval Climate Optimum."

The biggest loser in all of this is everyone. The nonsensical ramblings of the climate change brigade has undermined the public trust in science, because people mistakenly believe climate change is a scientific field. It´s not; it´s a political dogma pushed by those who want to destroy capitalism. That damage is going to take a long time to overcome.

Former national deputy chief of the U.S. Border Patrol Ronald Colburn tells National Review Online that the Obama administration has undone all of the progress made at America’s southern border since 9/11. “We’re back to a pre-9/11 situation basically, and this administration did that in the past five years,” he says. “All of the good that was done after 9/11 up to now has been reversed singlehandedly.” Colburn, who spent more than 30 years working for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, says the resulting national-security risk has to do with the “clutter” of people at the border. WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has secretly notified Congress that the military intends to transfer six low-level Guantánamo Bay detainees to Uruguay as early as next month, according to people with knowledge of the communication. All six have been approved for transfer for more than four years. Mr. Hagel’s formal determination that the transfer would be in the national security interest of the United States breaks a bureaucratic paralysis over a deal that has been waiting for his approval since March, but stalled amid the political uproar over a prisoner exchange deal that secured the release of Sgt.
