Lessons From the Little Ice Age
New York Times, by Geoffrey Parker

Original Article

Posted By:Pythagoras, 3/23/2014 1:03:14 AM

Climatologists call it the Little Ice Age; historians, the General Crisis. During the 17th century, longer winters and cooler summers disrupted growing seasons and destroyed harvests across Europe. It was the coldest century in a period of glacial expansion that lasted from the early 14th century until the mid-19th century. ... The unusual cold that lasted from the 1620s until the 1690s included ice on both the Bosporus and the Baltic so thick that people could walk from one side to the other.

Interesting. The author expounds on the bad effects of global cooling. The tries to apply the same effects to global warming.

The beneficial effects of the Medieval Warm Period are not even considered.

A little knowledge and absolutely no ability to think critically. The author is the kind of person that cannot be reasoned with.

HOLY COW!

The fascist global warmists have been trying to erase the Maunder Minimum and the Little Ice Age from the public consciousness for a couple of decades. Now the NYT slips up and lets a factual, rational essay which shows that the climate has varied a LOT without mankind being involved get published. No "proof" that we MUST turn the reigns of power over to the lefties to "save us" from MMGW or Climate Change or the Sky Falling.

Some heads will roll over this when the GW/CC Central Command hears about this.

Humans have been spoiled by consistent weather for a long time. Now that it goes off the rails a little, the left has to assign blame for it. Doesn´t matter that the current state of the weather in child´s play compared to other times in history.

The left survives by the concert of group think, because their base in incapable of individual thought.

I fully expect this summer to be long and hot with maybe a month of spring like weather. This will throw the left into even deeper hysteria.

We can already see from this article how bad the country will continue to be with her being president.

The world warms up by El Niño currents and cools when there is less sunspot activity. The Sun controls global warming, not human emissions. Drill, Baby drill. And export liquified American Natural Gas.

I agree with No. 2. The article is factual and well written. When he says we must prepare for the effects of warmer weather he means that we must stop building homes on river banks, adjust to some of our land turning into desert, etc. Land presently too cold for crops will become available for use. Whether the warmer weather continues or reverses and we have a new Little Ice Age no one knows. It´s still good advice.

This was introduced to the public in "The Little Ice Age, How Climate History 1300-1850", in 2000 by Brian Fagen. Much has been written about it so this is nothing new, but the man made climate change fanatics don´t want to generally talk about it since it clearly illustrates that natural forces dwarf all human activity.

This is what we have to be concerned about........the fact that Obama and his followers will destroy the economy and raise your utilities so we cannot keep ourselves from freezing to death as well as run out of food. Also, ISLAM and our nation´s enemies are planning on hitting USA´s grids. Then we have no way of keeping warm folks. Also, you want generators? Obama and his followers will stop you from obtaining either coal or wood or gasoline. Bet on it folks. This is not just about politics or opinions. Obama has three more years to destroy and Putin and our enemy nations are gearing up for takeover which means war(s).

Regardless of what Americans think about Obamacare, reining in health-care costs is winning the support of investors in U.S. Treasuries. After doubling in the past two decades, medical expenses rose less last year than at any time since Harry S. Truman was president in 1949, helped by Medicare reimbursement cuts. The rollout of President Barack Obama’s signature 2010 law will hold down consumer prices for years to come as millions of Americans obtain coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, BNP Paribas SA and Credit Suisse Group AG said.

On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. (Snip) Forget that the United States is deep into what Mr. Obama dramatically declares a “humanitarian crisis,” that the Middle East is a powder keg about to blow, that Iraq has all but fallen to Islamist terrorists. (Why not forget; the president has.)

A Fox News exclusive reported this morning by Jana Winter inexplicably buried the lede. Winter reports that several dead children have been discovered “washed up along the riverbank” of the Rio Grande, but fails to note that there have been no reports by the Obama administration on this. This indicates a pattern of covering up dead illegal alien kids by the Obama administration. It was two weeks before news was reported on the sole child death acknowledged by the Obama administration, Gilberto Ramos, a 15 year-old boy from Guatemala whose body was found in the Texas brush dead from the

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

Hawking, 71, the world-renowned theoretical physicist and former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, had accepted an invitation to headline the fifth annual president´s conference, Facing Tomorrow, in June, which features major international personalities, attracts thousands of participants and this year will celebrate Peres´s 90th birthday. President Obama is “absolutely” the most transparent president in history, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Sunday after the White House received a letter from signed by a dozen top journalists’ groups complaining about the administration’s policies toward the media. “There are a number of steps that we´ve taken to give people greater insight into what´s happening at the White House,” Earnest said in an interview with CNN’s “Reliable Sources.” The letter, signed by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Poynter Institute, among others, accuses the White House of "politically driven suppression of news and information about federal agencies." Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. Those grievances range from (but are not limited to) Benghazi, the IRS scandal, the "targeting" of conservative filmmaker Dinesh D´Souza, illegal immigration, the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court case, the treatment of war veterans, the chaos in Iraq and deep reservations about President Obama. Inquiring minds wonder if there’s a “G” in the grading repertoire. And that does not stand for “good.” Pollster John Zogby has given President Obama an “F” this week for the White House performance on the global stage, and the researcher has no imminent good news for the president. “Some people have really bad weeks. Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff got an ‘F’ after the nation’s soccer team lost to Germany. But President Obama’s week was just as bad,” Mr. Zogby says. “Israel and the Palestinians are at war again. The president should have visited the U.S.-Mexican border, where so many immigrant children are in danger and so many

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
