Meet Cloak, the ‘antisocial’ network
that helps you avoid people

Washington Post, by Caitlin Dewey

We have myriad tech-enabled ways to encounter friends (and strangers!) in real life. (Snip) The inevitable backlash has, at last, arrived: It’s called Cloak, and it’s an “antisocial network” that uses social check-ins and other geo-location information to help you avoid people you’d, well, rather not see. Here’s how the app works. After downloading Cloak for the first time, you can connect it with Foursquare and Instagram (with more networks to come soon). Cloak then plots where your Foursquare and Instagram contacts are, according to their most recent check-ins. You can casually check the map, or — for exes, chatty neighbors and other

Comments:
I don´t use social networks, but this may be the answer to a tweet our Jonah (Goldberg) put out during the week requesting a way to stop these malicious tweeters.

From the description this technology could just as easily be used to find and make contact with friends. Does the fact that it is marketed in a negative way say more about the creators...or about us?

Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis suggested that the Republican stance on immigration is a racist one, and that conservatives simply don’t like “people who don’t look like them.” “You need look no further than what happened in Arizona with their anti-immigration bill and the withdrawal of tourism and the impact to their economy as a consequence of what ideological thinkers did to that state,” the Democrat said at a Human Rights Campaign PAC fundraiser in Austin, The Daily Caller reported. Miss Davis is running for governor against Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott, who is leading by double digits in most polls.

Geneva & Dubai - Iran´s talks with six global powers on a long-term deal to curb its nuclear program in exchange for an end to sanctions could be extended for another six months if no deal is reached by a July 20 deadline, a senior Iranian official said on Monday. (Snip) Western officials say Iran wants to maintain a uranium enrichment capability far beyond what is suitable for a civilian nuclear energy program. Iran says it wants to avoid reliance on foreign suppliers of fuel for its nuclear reactors and rejects Western allegations it seeks the capability to make nuclear weapons under the guise of a peaceful energy program.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that children waiting with their parents for immigration visas must go to the back of the line once they reach the age of 21. The court was divided 5-4 in deciding that only in limited circumstances does federal immigration law allow for children to retain their place in line after they become adults. The case concerns a program that allows people who are U.S. citizens or legal residents to sponsor relatives who live overseas. Antonio Iovine, former head of the Camorra, was a fugitive for 14 years before being captured in a hideout in the town of Casal di Principe, outside Naples in 2010. He recently decided to collaborate with police as an informer or “pentito” and sent shockwaves through Italy’s political establishment with claims of widespread collusion between the mafia and politicians irrespective of their party affiliation. The platoon was, an American military official would assert years later, “raggedy.”On their tiny, remote base, in a restive sector of eastern Afghanistan at an increasingly violent time of the war, they were known to wear bandannas and cutoff T-shirts. Their crude observation post was inadequately secured, a military review later found. Their first platoon leader, and then their first platoon sergeant, were replaced relatively early in the deployment because of problems. But the unit — Second Platoon, Blackfoot Company in the First Battalion, 501st Regiment — might well have remained indistinguishable from scores of other Army platoons

The street had a crosswalk that was not governed by traffic lights, leaving the onus to stop with the driver, according to The Huffington Post.
