The new faces of the Minneapolis NAACP
Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, by Isaac Peterson

Original Article

Posted By:Up2Here, 3/21/2014 2:18:26 AM

Seventeen years ago, Ilhan Omar was a young girl in war-torn Somalia, with a bleak future and uncertainty about whether things would ever look better. Now she is an aide to Minneapolis City Council Member Andrew Johnson, as well as the third vice president of the Minneapolis NAACP. After leaving Somalia in 1997, “We moved to Kenya, stayed in refugee camps, and then got sponsored to come to the United States for a better life,” Omar told the MSR. “So my father and my siblings came here, seeking better education, a better life, and a chance to be free.”

Comments:
And you settled on the NAACP? Talk about an underachiever.

If it sounds too good to be true, too educated, too wealthy, could be a Muzlim.

Nothing good comes from Somalia.

The NAACP = DNC. There you have it! The DNC is now the jihadist muslim party or the Muslim Brotherhood Party. Take your pick.

The Independence Day weekend, usually one of the year´s biggest, fizzled drastically this time. Here´s what to blame — and it wasn´t the World Cup or Hurricane Arthur What if they gave a July 4th party and nobody came? That’s what Hollywood is wondering in the wake of an Independence Day weekend that had moviegoers expressing their Declaration of Indifference — by boycotting the multiplexes.

Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night in the most shocking primary defeat since Republicans took the House in 2010. The conservative challenger’s victory halts one of the most meteoric rises in national politics, and illustrates the strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantor’s Richmond-area district. Cantor is the second House incumbent to lose this primary season — Texas GOP incumbent Ralph Hall was defeated by a tea-party backed challenger at the end of May. Cantor’s defeat not only reorders Virginia politics, where Cantor was the highest-ranking

The fate of amnesty legislation this year may depend on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor´s (R-VA) margin of victory Tuesday in a primary campaign that has surprisingly emerged as a high-profile immigration battle. While a trio of House Republicans – Reps. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC), Paul Ryan (R-WI), and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) – are canvassing the GOP conference on whether there is appetite to tackle immigration before the August recess, Cantor has had to fend off a long-shot, underfunded economics professor who rose in the polls by relentlessly attacking Cantor on the issue. In the closing hours of the campaign,

Last week, the Indiana state legislature passed further reductions in corporate business tax rates that, within eight years, will establish the Hoosier State as having the lowest business tax rate in the country. Indiana Governor Mike Pence has said that he plans to sign it into law. The bill will lower the corporate income tax rate each year through 2022, when the 4.9% rate will become the lowest corporate rate in the U.S. It also provides three options for local governments to lower the business personal property tax. This is good news for Indiana, which is rapidly becoming a pro-growth

The Army´s new grooming and uniform regulations, set to be released in coming days, have leaked online and the news isn´t good for soldiers wanting to sport some extra body art. The rules, approved March 6 by Army Secretary John McHugh, replace about 50 existing regulations and cover topics such as tattoos, fingernail polish and hair. The regulations haven´t been officially released yet but a 57-page PowerPoint document was posted on the Facebook page "U.S. Army W.T.F. Moments" on Wednesday, reports Army Times. CHICAGO- With a hunger to reclaim the governor´s office, Republican voters set out Tuesday to shake up Illinois´ Democratic-dominated political order, energized by candidates´ talk of taking on unions, unseating "career politicians" and righting the state´s troubled finances. The talk at polling stations from the Chicago suburbs in the north to the St. Louis suburbs in the southwest was of reversing the state´s indebtedness and keeping businesses and jobs from leaving Illinois. Describing their desire for change, people used phrases like "break the system." To many, the governor´s race was shaping up as a potentially transformative battle over union influence, with some voters

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend. On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. A Fox News exclusive reported this morning by Jana Winter inexplicably buried the lede. Winter reports that several dead children have been discovered “washed up along the riverbank” of the Rio Grande, but fails to note that there have been no reports by the Obama administration on this. This indicates a pattern of covering up dead illegal alien kids by the Obama administration. It was two weeks before news was reported on the sole child death acknowledged by the Obama administration, Gilberto Ramos, a 15 year-old boy from Guatemala whose body was found in the Texas brush dead from the
