Hillary´s Putin Problem
The Weekly Standard, by Jonathan V. Last

Original Article

It would be ironic if Hillary Clinton had a second presidential campaign torpedoed because of another politician´s foreign policy. People don´t much remember it now, but before Hope ´n´ Change Mania swept the country, Sen. Barack Obama shot to the lead in Iowa based almost entirely on drawing contrasts with Sen. Hillary Clinton concerning Iraq. Go re-read the speech he gave at Iowa´s Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Des Moines, shortly before he took off in the polls in November of 2007. Here´s the key passage:

I´m laughing hysterically at the headline! When he was small, one of our boys used to refer to his "passing gas" episodes as "pootin´".

I imagine old PIAPS is afflicted with bouts of gassiness from time to time but never imagined it would rate a headline.

Hey, Hil...try BEANO. Don´t bother to thank me.

That bad, huh? Newspaper so disappointed
in Obama it apologizes for 2008 endorsement

President Obama has so far been a major disappointment to even his most ardent supporters, his approval numbers steadily falling to fresh lows. And the president is apparently such a disappointment, that the Billings Gazette in Montana felt compelled last week to apologize to its readers for endorsing him in 2008 over Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Rewriting History

Hillary Clinton will shortly release a memoir, Hard Choices, chronicling her tenure as secretary of state. If what she has to say in its pages resembles what she had to say from the stage at the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) annual Global Forum on May 14—where she claimed undue credit for implementing sanctions against Iran—it’s worth setting the record straight now. In reality, the Obama administration, and Clinton’s State Department in particular, opposed, dragged their feet on, and sought to water down every piece of sanctions legislation introduced by bipartisan majorities in the House and Senate. With that history now being rewritten, let’s review the actual record.

Next month it will be 10 years since Ronald Reagan died at age 93. Next fall it will be 20 years since he withdrew from public view by releasing his handwritten letter announcing he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer´s disease, and 30 years since he was re-elected with 59 percent of the vote, carrying 49 of 50 states -- a political feat no one has come close to since. And it will be 50 years since his late October telecast for Barry Goldwater made him a national political figure.

What does America owe its veterans? Perhaps the best answer to this question I have ever seen came from a young woman named Julie Ponzi—wise beyond her years—in response to a review I had written of Karl Marlantes’s magnificent Vietnam war novel, Matterhorn. She observed that by providing a real understanding of war and its sacrifices, memoirs and novels such as Matterhorn make it possible for “our fighting men to finally get some genuine gratitude. Not sympathy or pedestals; but real gratitude.

GOP Committee Chairman

A Republican congressman bashing “crony capitalism” and “corporate welfare” is no longer a new thing. A Republican congressman actually trying to do something about corporate welfare, however, is nearly unprecedented. So it´s a sign that the GOP could go in a new direction when the Republican chairman of the House Financial Services Committee sets out to derail some of Wall Street´s favorite federal gravy trains and “reform the corporate welfare state.” Texas Republican Jeb Hensarling, who chairs the House banking panel, gave a call to arms at the conservative Heritage Foundation on Tuesday afternoon,

At fundraiser, Obama dismisses GOP

Washington Examiner, by Susan Crabtree    Original Article

President Obama, during a fundraiser Monday night, chided Republicans for spending additional time scrutinizing his administration´s handling of the Benghazi terrorist attack and the implementation of Obamacare and blamed the GOP for Washington´s dysfunction. Obama is under pressure this week to formally address the problems at the Veterans Affairs Department after allegations of secret waiting times at VA hospitals that may have cost 40 veterans their lives. White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough appeared on the Sunday talk shows and repeatedly said the president is infuriated by the unfolding VA scandal “and I have the scars to prove it.”

One change is not enough for veterans

I did not get to know Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki when we served together in the Obama administration, but in our limited interactions I liked him. He struck me as polite, smart, earnest and hard-working. Over time he resisted the ego-tripping that many agency heads find irresistible in Washington. Secretary Shinseki, however, has not been an agent of change. As his May 15 Senate testimony made clear, the management style which he brought with him—the only style he knows—is ill-suited for an agency that has serious management and integrity issues. Delegating and deferring to a broken bureaucracy that will not be candid

Eric Shinseki’s troubles began with a "Patton" video. Now the secretary of Veterans Affairs is facing charges that veterans are needlessly dying on his watch as the head of the largest civilian agency in the federal government. Scandals have cascaded over Shinseki and the VA since the Washington Examiner revealed in August 2012 that $50,000 in taxpayer money was spent to produce a pair of video parodies that came to define the lavish spending at the two Veterans Affairs training conferences in Orlando.

It´s hardly news that conservatives are not especially welcome on college and university campuses. Speech codes are designed to restrict discourse and punish the exercise of fundamental rights. Faculties are disproportionately left-wing in their politics. Administrators are sometimes intimidated by mobs. Conservative students can be marginalized and harassed. Visiting speakers are assailed, shouted down, sometimes physically assaulted.

In a previous post, I wrote about a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine finding the Massachusetts health care law signed by former Gov. Mitt Romney in 2006 led to a measurable reduction in mortality in the state relative to other counties in the United States with similar demographics that did not expand coverage. But as experts debate how much the Massachusetts experience is likely to be replicated nationally as President Obama´s health care law expands the number of Americans with insurance, one question worth exploring is how much of a role the world-class medical system in Massachusetts

And so Republicans, from candidates to consultants to commentators, cultivate a calm, cool, and collected affect. Keep calm and carry on, they say soberly and sagely to each other. Which is fine if you’re in the midst of the struggle, and your forces are already fully committed to the fight. But if you’re rallying your troops, and trying to persuade others that they need to join the fight,

“Without borders, there is no nation,” former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin wrote in a Breitbart op-ed this week. “Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America ... President Obama´s rewarding of lawlessness, including his own, is the foundational problem here ... It´s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the Left or Right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment.” That this desperate cry for attention (dangling participle and all)

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend. And Barack is from the heart of 55th in the City of Chicago… He will probably go down as the worst president ever elected. Bill Clinton was the African-American president.“

It’s true what they say about Michelle Obama. She has amazing arms. I saw this up close when she unfurled her bare right limb in front of me Thursday night, while the two of us were doing tapas at the jumping Barcelona on 14th Street NW. In his weekly radio/YouTube address, President Obama derided House Republicans’ planned lawsuit against him, warning that GOP lawmakers will spend taxpayer dollars on a frivolous legal challenge. “It’s a political stunt that’s going to waste months of America’s time. And by the way, they’re going to pay for it using your hard-earned tax dollars,” Obama said. Angry Democrats in Nebraska said the Obama Outhouse float in the 4th of July parade may have been racist. So now Eric Holder is looking into it. Omaha.com reported: The U.S. Department of Justice has joined the discussions over a controversial float in the Norfolk Independence Day parade. The department sent a member of its Community Relations Service team, which gets involved in discrimination disputes, to a Thursday meeting about the issue. Also at the meeting were the NAACP, the Norfolk mayor and The Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The Odd Fellows organized the parade. One of the floats included a zombie-like mannequin standing near

BOSTON — Comedian Bill Cosby and his wife Camille are supporting protesters marching across Massachusetts in opposition to Kinder Morgan’s proposed natural gas pipeline. The couple, who own hundreds of acres of protected land in Shelburne Falls, about 100 miles west of Boston, have been opposed to the pipeline since the company notified them last winter of plans to survey their land. Through a spokesman, the couple said it was “astounding” that New England’s six governors support the proposal, which they said shows “disrespect for humans, flora and fauna.” Supporters of the $3.75 billion Northeast Pipeline Extension Project say it will provide

Glenn Beck has set up Mercury One Children and Family Border Relief Fund to help illegals coming into the United States. He’s already raised $600,000. Beck stated that Obama would not have to step in and ask for $3.7 billion if private charities would pick up the slack and give to the swarm of illegals crossing the border. Is he kidding? Do we really need more churches and non-profits enabling this blatant attack on America? Rich people and liberal elite billionaires have no skin in the game when it comes to the consequences of illegal immigration so what do they care? It’s the working class and middle class who will take the hit.
