4 Diseases Making a Comeback
Thanks to Anti-Vaxxers

These should be avoidable Measles has made a comeback, at least in New York City, where as many as 19 cases have been confirmed. New York City isn’t an anomaly, though. Diseases that are and have been avoidable in the U.S. thanks to vaccines, are resurfacing all across the country. Measles, for instance, was considered wiped out in 2000, but there have been several outbreaks in the past few years. This map shows outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases since 2008 (click on “Map” and select which diseases and regions you want to see).

The most advanced country in the world heads back to the Dark Ages - led by Jenny McCarthy?

As the article says:

The emergence of these diseases — especially measles — is alarming, and mostly due to parents in the U.S. not vaccinating their kids. “If you are unvaccinated and you come in contact with measles, there’s a 90% chance you will get it,” says Jason McDonald, a spokesperson for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Get your children vaccinated, make sure you are up to date with yours, those who choose to NOT get vaccinated will pay the consequence, along with their children.
WHY are we all so involved in other peoples´ lives?

#1 hits it out of the park. My nurse wife has told me some about new cases of diseases that we haven´t seen in many decades...and a couple that haven´t been seen in a century or more. Funny how those open borders bring open sores! I think Ellis Island was more than a paperwork processing station.

Anti-vaxxers think they´ll be protected by herd immunity (aka the people taking responsibility for their family´s health and well-being). What they don´t understand (and what many people don´t understand) is that their actions break down herd immunity. Get enough people in the mix with the disease and even those vaccinated could get it.

In our area, schools are demanding certain vaccinations before kids can take class. I´m not sure if they can legally do that, but they say, "no shot, no class" in the ads and robocalls. Not taking any chances.

two people at the place I was working at last year got chicken pox. I never had it as a child (I grew up in the 60´s before the vaccine), so at my age (and I have asthma) I had to go get vaccinated, because bad things could happen to me if I get it.

Well when I got the second shot I came down with a mild version of the disease. So now I have to worry about complications as I get older. Too bad I can´t sue the people behind the anti-vacine push.

#7 it sounds like you are saying impairing herd immunity results in a more virulent infection. My understanding of herd immunity is that it protects the unprotected by acting as a firebreak. True, even some vaccinated people will wind up with a disease they are vaccinated for upon exposure to it, but this is because no vaccine is 100% and there is always some amount of failure to protect. If impaired herd immunity does increase the strength of the infectious agent I would appreciate information on that - perhaps on The Connection.

Looking at the color spots on the map it is patently obvious the US has a huge problem with whooping cough - transmitted by people coughing and sneezing at you without protection. Good handkerchief and tissue use protocol starts in the home - teach the kids the importance of keeping their secretions contained. If vaccines were still offered as the simple few [mumps, measles, diphtheria and polio] instead of the massive onslaught of repeat combination doses in their first five years, kids´ immune systems might stand a chance of building up resistance to bugs, bacs and viruses, and less people might be anti-vaccination.

Around Columbus Day, we all hear the old complaints about how the Europeans introduced deadly diseases and infected native Americans.

If you read about Castle Garden where my ancestors landed (Doctors examined the passengers, reducing the amount of contagious diseases spread to the community.)

And later Ellis Island (If they had other diseases and these were confirmed or if the immigrant was to sick and to weak to manage to work, they were not allowed to enter to the US.) - all the immigrants were checked for diseases and sent back if they were ill.

No one dares complain about immigrants today.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida’s political landscape is being upended by a landmark legal ruling that one legal expert says could influence the way other states draw their congressional districts. A circuit judge ruled late Thursday that the state Legislature illegally drew Florida’s congressional districts to primarily benefit the Republican Party. Judge Terry Lewis ruled that two of the state’s 27 congressional districts were invalid and that the map must be redrawn. Justin Levitt, a law professor at Loyola Law School who tracks redistricting cases, called the decision a “big victory” for Florida’s voters that could be a model for other states to

East Coast swimmers are much more likely to wind up the victims of a shark attack, according to the data.
