14 of California´s 32 measles
cases this year were
intentionally unvaccinated

Southern California Public Radio, by Adrian Florido

California public health officials say 19 of the 32 cases of measles they have confirmed so far this year are in people who had not been vaccinated, and of that group, 14 were intentionally not vaccinated. As the number of measles cases continues to grow across the state — there were only three by this time last year — officials at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) have urged parents against opting out of vaccinating their children. They say an increase in the number of people choosing not to vaccinate could drive a resurgence of the respiratory disease, since

Comments:
CDPH officials say 99% of those who have two doses of the vaccine develop immunity to measles.

Parents can opt out by signing a form. Tragic ignorance. They mistakenly believe that if others are vaccinated, they will receive the benefits. They don´t understand the "herd effect" of vaccination.

This absurdity of allowing parents to "opt out" of vaccinations and still have their children in public school will someday result in a large outbreak of a disease with many deaths.

Are they talking about rubella or rubeola? German measles or English measles? The English measles is what a lot of us ´oldsters´ got as kids. It is not harmful to a fetus, but rubella is. So which one is resurgent now?

Many years ago, one of my close friends was an anti-vaxxer. She had educated herself, and made a good case for it. According to her, current vaccines don´t provide life-long immunity, as does having the actual childhood illnesses. Most of the time, measles, mumps, chicken pox, etc. are mild illnesses in children, and only present problems for unborn children, and adults. Immunity provided by vaccines can "wear off" during young adulthood, making people vulnerable to those diseases when complications are most likely to occur. Don´t know if it´s true or not.

What accounts for the other cases? Think maybe the others are people who came here through less than legal means and have never been vaccinated, intentionally or not?

If this is the regular old measles, not rubella, why is everyone getting the vapors over it? Geez! This is NOT the kind that causes birth defects. That´s rubella. This is rubeola. Big difference.

When I was a child, all girls got vaccinations against rubella (German measles), which, although much less symptomatically severe than rubeola (red measles), could cause birth defects when the girls reached childbearing age.

When I was five years old I caught red measles, and was a very sick little boy for several days, quarantined in my bedroom. My temperature hit 105. If it had gone any higher, I would have had to be hospitalized, and my life would have been in danger. In the years after my vision want from perfect to very myopic, and my pediatrician said that the deterioration of my sight was a consequence of having had red measles.

Just one hour of exercise a week can halve the chance of getting Alzheimer’s disease, claims a study that ranks the seven lifestyle threats driving the rising levels of dementia. The research by Cambridge University says one in three cases of the condition could be prevented by increased activity levels, a cut in smoking and tackling health problems such as obesity and diabetes. The study, published in the Lancet Neurology Monday, is the first to quantify the combined impact of lifestyle factors influencing dementia. It identifies exercise as the most significant protection against the condition. Those who failed to do three 20-minute bursts

Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
