Could MH370 have been ´swapped´ mid-air?
Yahoo News, by Rob Waugh

Original Article

Posted By:Ribicon, 3/19/2014 10:01:34 AM

Aircraft expert Ian Black previously worked as a fighter weapons instructor for the Malaysian Air Force, and is the author of two Haynes Manuals for aircraft, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom Manual and the RAF Tornado Manual. He flew the Tornado ADV in the first Gulf War and over Kosovo. He is now an A340 Airbus captain with Virgin Atlantic. Could the aircraft have been ‘swapped’ mid-air? Generally air traffic radars use something called a “Squawk” code - this is 4 digits, say ´1234´ - that is then used to transmit information to the ground radar of the aircraft’s position

Comments:
Scenario that occurred to me last night: pilots steal a second jumbo jet, disable transponders, and an explosives-laden, repainted MH370 flies in on the expected flight path, identifying itself as the original aircraft, veering away from the destination airport at the last moment and destroying a valuable target.

Terrorism in the UK: Social

If an Islamic terrorist is apprehended in Detroit or blows himself up in Stockholm, it doesn’t usually take long to trace their career progression back to Britain. The CIA despairingly refers to “Londonistan”, but the phrase doesn’t quite do justice to Britain’s ability to incubate terrorism all over the country. For various reasons – chiefly our being quicker to accept asylum-seekers than expel villains – Britain has ended up as a kind of finishing school for jihadis. So it is no great surprise to learn that an estimated 400 Brits have so far been to Syria to join the rebels

The art of the pin-up: The real women

Anyone who´s familiar with pin up paintings will know the caricature-esque works of Gil Elvgren. His fantastical cheesecake pictures feature curvy 1950s women revealing their stockings - and sometimes a bit more - in a series of eyebrow-raising situations. And now it has been revealed that the late American painter´s works were not just a figment of his imagination, but based on photographs of real women. A side-by-side collection of the paintings and the models who inspired them seen on Nerve.com reveals the similarities, but also where Gil exaggerated features best to comic effect. The artist´s painted ladies feature

Socialite Easterling goes out

Most of those in attendance seemed to agree that Mickey Easterling went out Tuesday evening just the way she would have wanted to — well-dressed and in the thick of things. Friends of the local philanthropist, socialite and party hostess packed the gleaming marble foyer of the Saenger Theater on Canal Street, plucking champagne and fried eggplant from the trays of passing waiters. Music sounded from a jazz combo parked on the balcony overhead. And Mickey, as everyone called her, took in the whole scene from her perch on a wrought iron bench, her famous accouterments of hat, feather boa and

The number of Americans buying new homes plummeted in March to the slowest pace in eight months, a sign that real estate´s spring buying season is off to a weak start. The Commerce Department said Wednesday that sales of new homes declined 14.5 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 384,000. That was the second straight monthly decline and the lowest rate since July 2013. Sales plunged in the Midwest, South and West in March. But they rebounded in the Northeast, where snowstorms in previous months curtailed purchases. New-home sales have declined 13.3 percent over the past

Nearly 40 children have been found with guns on school premises over the last three years, a shocking new national survey has disclosed. Figures obtained from police forces across Britain showed guns and air weapons had been confiscated on 37 occasions by officers - including two hand guns. The other guns included 27 ball bearing guns and seven other air weapons. The figures showed almost 1,000 pupils in total were caught by police with weapons in schools including a Taser stun gun, a meat cleaver, three axes and a cut-throat razor. The total is likely to be only the tip

Montgomery, Alabama — Less than three months before the June primary, four Alabama counties had more voters on their rolls than what the Census Bureau says is their voting age population. Officials give a number of reasons for that, including under-counting by the census. Secretary of State Jim Bennett said the discrepancies create opportunity for voting fraud. “Every duplicate name and every bad address is just an opportunity for crooks to attempt to manipulate our elections,” Bennett said. Each county has a three-person board of registrars that is responsible for maintaining the voting lists with help from the secretary of

New York City — A belligerent bus rider who was caught on camera attacking a pair of senior citizens received a taste of street justice from fellow riders, who took him down and tossed him onto a sidewalk. The nearly 2-minute video starts with a straphanger verbally assaulting a woman sitting down in the bus’ priority seating. He goes on an expletive laden, sexually derogatory tirade, gradually moving closer toward the victim. Soon after, a rider with a cane stands up to defend the woman and the attacker pounces, knocking the man’s cane from his hand. That’s when several riders sprang

With the bells of Notre Dame heralding a glorious Easter Sunday morning, a tourist uses a cash point a short stroll from the ancient Paris cathedral. Within seconds he is surrounded by an aggressive gang of Roma sneak thieves, who make no secret of what they want from him. Feeling hands on his back and arms, the middle age man turns around in horror to see the utterly fearless gang casually trying to help themselves to his money. Such scenes have become so common in the French capital that police last week called for the ´systematic eviction´ of Roma.

First lady Michelle Obama took her campaign to help veterans find jobs to Fort Campbell, Ky.., Wednesday where she said that most Americans don´t know much about the military. Following comments from Jill Biden, the vice president´s wife and Obama´s teammate in helping veterans, she noted that unlike Biden, she had little familiarity with the military prior to campaigning for the White House in 2008. “Unlike Jill, I wasn´t a military mom. I wasn´t a Blue Star family member. I didn´t know much about the military, and I was probably more like the average American,” said Obama.

In advance of President Obama’s four-nation Asian tour this week, the Washington Post published an article saying this: President Obama’s bid to focus U.S. attention on Asia has failed to meet the lofty expectations he set three years ago in a grand pronouncement that the new emphasis would become a pillar of his foreign policy. [Snip] By now, nearly five and a half years into the Obama presidency, objective people can draw reasonable conclusions, among which are these: Barack Obama was among the least prepared men to ever serve as presidency. It shows. He has been overmatched by events right from the start.

Anyone expecting rancher Cliven Bundy to apologize at a news briefing Thursday for widely condemned remarks — that black people were “happier” during the slavery era than now — would be disappointed. Wearing his signature cowboy hat, Bundy, who led an armed confrontation with federal rangers over a land dispute and was then hailed as a patriot by Fox News’ Sean Hannity and other conservatives, repeated in Bunkerville, Nevada, what he had said earlier — he was “just wondering” if blacks were better off under slavery. At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list. The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources. For six months, CNN has been reporting on extended delays in health care appointments suffered by veterans across the country and who died while waiting for appointments and care.

President Obama’s landslide victory in 2008 was supposed to herald the beginning of a new Democratic era. And yet, six years later, there is not even a clear Democratic majority in the country, let alone one poised for 30 years of dominance. It’s not because Mr. Obama’s so-called new coalition of young and nonwhite voters failed to live up to its potential. They again turned out in record numbers in 2012. The Democratic majority has failed to materialize because the Republicans made large, countervailing and unappreciated gains of their own among white Southerners. Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a stern warning to Russia Thursday evening, one week after a tentative agreement to defuse the crisis in Ukraine appeared to have no impact on the violent clashes between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian government. "The window to change course is closing," Kerry told reporters at the State Department. "President [Vladimir] Putin and Russia face a choice." If Russia does not reverse course and take action to urge the separatists to stand down and give up their arms, Kerry said the U.S. and its allies are poised to take actions directed at hurting Russia´s economy.

The age comparisons between Hillary Clinton and Ronald Reagan seem as natural as they are nonsensical. Yes, were Clinton to win in 2016, she would take office at age 69—just as Reagan did in 1981. And yes, the comparison is often made when Clinton´s critics and allies debate whether she has the health to serve out two presidential terms. But it´s a wildly misleading comparison, as the number that matters when assessing Clinton´s health is not her age, but her life expectancy. And there is where the Clinton-Reagan comparison is revealed as a stretch. A combination of federal data and
