Democrats face turnout problem,
dissatisfaction in ranks
leading to midterms

Washington Post, by Dan Balz

If President Obama’s 2012 campaign was known for anything, it was its voter mobilization operation, said to be the most sophisticated ever assembled in a presidential campaign. Which makes David Plouffe’s comments over the weekend all the more telling for Democrats as they look nervously toward the November midterm elections. When Republican David Jolly defeated Democrat Alex Sink in Florida’s 13th Congressional District a week ago, Democratic leaders explained away the outcome by arguing that the district tilted heavily in favor of the GOP in midterm and especially special elections. Rep. Steve Israel (N.Y.), who chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign

Sure. The most sophisticated voter mobilization ever seen. And it certainly didn´t hurt that at least half of them voted a half dozen times.

No, they don´t face a turnout problem. They never do. They have True Believers who will even go to another state to knock on doors and drive people to the polls. They also have the dead turnout which is never a problem for them.

They will turnout. It´s the Republicans that have a turnout problem and the way the establishment has been attacking, insulting and allowing Obama to wreak havoc on the GOP base, it´s not going to get any better.

The leadership depresses the Republican vote when they push unwanted immigration reform. Hanging your hat on that is a sure way to lose. Why the push for immigration when every poll shows Americans are not interested in the issue. They want jobs and the economy improved. We are in a crisis of unemployment in this country and the Republicans want to legalize illegals who will be vying for jobs Americans need and want. This is insanity. Shilling for the Chamber of Commerce will get you one thing, anemic turnout. Count on it. Please buy a clue, give the people something to vote FOR like jobs, improved economy, and getting the government off our backs.

Just about the most solidly Democratic town in the US is on the San Francisco Peninsula just South of Daley City. The residents of Colma, also known as "The City of the Dead," faithfully cast their votes wherever they are needed in the State. And they never complain. Ideal Dem voters.

Colma, has 1,500 residents - live ones that is. It also has 1.2 million dead ones. Colma is the city of cemeteries - around 17 or 18 of them, I think, in a city that is only 2.2 square miles in area.

The Dems don´t have much of a turnout problem in Colma and who is going to challenge a zombie at the voting place? Wyatt Earp is buried there. Wonder why he votes Dem.

With all of the issues that Republicans have to use against Dims, I fear that the Republicans will come up with a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Someone will do or say something stupid and outrageous and the drive-by media will jump on it with both feet and claim that ALL Republicans are the same. It seems to happen every election cycle. I don´t know how to put a stop to it except getting rid of the RINO´s and the establishment type crowd.

In the foyer of the Central Intelligence Agency’s headquarters, there is a marble wall covered in stars. They are carved divots that represent those who have fallen in the service of the CIA. Below them, jutting out from the polished rock, is a black book entombed in a case of glass and steel. The book is a guide to the stars, giving the names of some of those who died and withholding the names of others. On the pages of the CIA’s Book of Honor are 107 hand-drawn stars organized by the years those officers died. For 2007, there is

SO FAR Hamas’s military campaign against Israel has been a dismal failure. Thanks in part to Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, some 1,200 rockets fired at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities have caused only one Israeli death and a few other casualties. Attempted commando attacks via the sea and a tunnel were stopped short, and a drone that ventured into Israel was quickly shot down. Yet Hamas on Tuesday rejected an Egyptian cease-fire proposal that was supported by Western governments and the Arab League and had been accepted by Israel. Why would Hamas insist on continuing the fight when

Sarah Palin is right about impeaching President Obama. No, not that the president should be impeached. But Palin is correct in arguing that, for those who assert that Obama has grievously abused his executive authority, impeachment is the proper course of action. Of course this won’t happen, for the obvious reason that this tactic didn’t go so well for Republicans last time. Hence House Speaker John Boehner’s curt dismissal of Palin’s call for impeachment: “I disagree.” Boehner’s alternative — a lawsuit — offers the political benefits of draining impeachment fever from the more rabid Republican precincts while rallying the base

Israel’s pledge to intensify its military operation in the Gaza Strip could hasten the moment when the Obama administration will be forced to decide whether to use its leverage to corral its closest ally in the Middle East. Israeli officials, in a series of television interviews, statements and social-media venues, said Tuesday that Hamas’s rejection of a cease-fire offer validated the force it has used over eight days of conflict and made legitimate their argument for a wider military effort. The Obama administration appeared to accept that rationale, blaming the armed Islamist movement in Gaza for missing an opportunity to

Four out of five illegal immigrants seeking driver’s licenses under a new D.C. law have failed a written knowledge test — a rocky start to a program that in its first two months has issued 268 licenses, according to city officials. The failure rate of 80 percent compares with a 58 percent failure rate for people seeking traditional driver’s licenses, the Department of Motor Vehicles told a D.C. Council committee.
