How the Greens Help Putin
in Crimea Incursion

Washington Times, by Richard W. Rahn

Original Article

A primary duty of a sovereign nation is to put policies in place to protect the country from both military and economic aggressors. This normally includes the creation of a capable military force (and protective military alliances) and competent economic policies to make sure the country is not dependent on key resources from or exports to potential enemies. Ukraine, for a variety of reasons, some outside its control, violated these defensive principles. (Snip) The Department of Energy has been engaging in regulation by strangulation. As John Kemp of Reuters reported on March 13: "By making regulatory barriers and the permitting

Comments:
The Greens and their political supporters on the Hill (mostly Democrats) are doing incalculable damage to the U.S. and our allies the world over by adhering to masochistic energy policies that strengthen our enemies while weakening the Free World. Will political sanity ever make a comeback?

First time I flew into the UK and looked at the ground below I was surprised for about two seconds as I looked at all the farm land. From my American frame of reference I had unthinkingly presumed a more densely populated landscape. After I came to my senses I correctly concluded that the land was zoned as part of a policy to protect national sovereignty.

An economic war needs to be fought like war. Survive first cut whatever red tape stands in the way. Win, then balance any other considerations swept aside in a survival struggle. Two years to create the LNG logistic infrastructure no, not a "war" response. Too bad we have tainted the very meaning of what a real war footing looks like.

I had already saved this article before getting to the comments - it should be a ´must read´ please - it is well written, to the point and the meaning is crystal clear.

My take-away from the article is Obie´s non-existent, weak at best, foreign policy in Asia provided Yeltsin, now Putie, with the welcome mat they needed for absorbing Crimea and soon, Ukraine, someday. Yeltsin/Putie knew if they let Ukraine die on the vine after the USSR breakup that the re-acquisition would be a piece of cake.

Too bad Ukraine did not understand this when they had the chance.

Just as soon as Israel accepted an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire Hamas fired 47 rockets killing one Israeli citizen. Anyone who has followed the conflict could have predicted this with certainty; the point of a ceasefire — for a terrorist organization — is to break it for exactly the same reason it purposely attacks women and children. Dr. Anna Geifman tried to explain that the reason why innocents are selected as terror targets is because “children are the last consecrated absolute”. That is just why they must be killed in the cruelest way possible. For “militant nihilism strives to ruin first and

Charlie Haden, who died on Friday at age 76, was one of the most revered and influential acoustic jazz bassists of his generation, largely because he was incapable of being dull. Rooted in folk and country music, Haden combined earthy simplicity with an engaging storytelling style that inspired and propelled the music of dozens of artists, from saxophonist Ornette Coleman and pianist Keith Jarrett to drummer Ginger Baker and singer Norah Jones. His conversational approach to improvisation forged a new model for post-1960 jazz bassists, resulting in four Grammys.

Bill Roggio has a very interesting article describing the ISIS plan to invest Baghdad. (Snip) As everyone now knows the campaign against US forces back in 2006 failed. The attackers were counter-encircled by US-led forces who established intelligence assets of their own to find and destroy the enemy. Much effort was put into tracking back weapons smuggling routes back to their sources, including explosively formed penetration IEDs whose cores were manufactured in Iran. US conventional units provided the “top cover” for the intel guys who went out to look for the enemy. Now ISIS is playing the same number on

Why Israel will soon be the only state able to govern Judea and Samaria, and the only military force capable of securing its borders. A one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is upon us. It won’t arrive by Naftali Bennett’s proposal to annex the West Bank’s Area C, or through the efforts of BDS campaigners and Jewish Voice for Peace to alter the Jewish state. But it will happen, sooner rather than later, as the states on Israel’s borders disintegrate and other regional players annex whatever they can. As that happens, Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria is becoming inevitable.

The initial reports from the Los Angeles Times described the massacre of almost 30 women in the Zayouna neighborhood of Baghdad as an unsolved mystery: “gunmen in Iraq reportedly kill at least 30 in upscale Baghdad area”. (Snip) It was not long before a more sinister motive made itself plain. The murder site was a brothel. The gunmen came in order to kill every one in it and teach the world an Islamic lesson. “Police believe men using silenced

The Democratic Party creates its coalition by catering to a diverse group of ethnic interest groups, and sometimes the special interests of those special interest groups clash. (Snip) It’s true that our government’s reaction to what’s happening on the border makes no sense if we ordinary people look at it conventionally. But it makes plenty of sense to Obama and others in his party who think it will give them a permanent and unbeatable majority in the not-too-distant future, as well as placate the huge Hispanic voting bloc in the present. And if their formerly reliable ethnic group, African Americans,

LYING FLAT ON THE deck of a fishing boat was a twenty-pound striped bass, its gills rising and collapsing like the bellows of an accordion. "Purple is the color of adrenaline. That´s why the bass have a purplish tint when you catch them," explained Captain Sloan Gurney of Black Rock Sport Fishing Charters. Standing over the fish, grinning triumphantly, was chef Anita Lo, who had just won the battle with the formidable opponent on the other end of her line. Ms. Lo´s blood could well have been purple at that moment—she was exhilarated. She caught six fish that afternoon in

John Seigenthaler, a legendary Tennessee journalist, intimate confidant to two near-presidents and fierce advocate for racial equality, died Friday. He was 86. Mr. Seigenthaler passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. "We celebrate his life — his devotion to social justice, his advocacy of human rights, and his enduring loyalty to friends and family," said his son, John Michael Seigenthaler. "He was proud of his hometown, Nashville, and grateful for the opportunity to share his energy and passion with this community." As a reporter for The Tennessean, Mr. Seigenthaler once saved a suicidal man´s life on a bridge over the

CHATTANOOGA — In a move that is unusual but not unprecedented, the United Auto Workers union has sidestepped its loss in a worker vote in February and created a local union to represent workers at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee. And what´s surprising, considering decades of fierce anti-union efforts from the other foreign-transplant automakers in the South, this time the union has the tacit approval of Volkswagen itself. "We have a consensus agreement with Volkswagen management to form the local and be recognized when we get a majority of the workers to join," said UAW International Secretary-Treasurer Gary Casteel of

David Goldman writing from Tel Aviv, explains that Hamas is broke, has lost its patrons in Egypt and weaker than ever. It is bombarding Israel to attract more terror funding. By contrast, Israel has thrived under fire and is poised to become more prosperous than ever. (Snip) Eugene Volkh famously described how Asians in America became white. The process was simple: they became rich. This implicit correlation between wealth and race distorts nearly every media story. Proof that Israel is racist is shown by the fact that they inflict disproportionate casualties in every fight with the Palestinians, something you might

Sunny with light missile cover in Tel Aviv this morning. I awoke to muffled thuds in the distance, Iron Dome shooting down Syrian-made missiles launched from Gaza, according to news reports. (Snip) But the broader point is that Israel will win a war of attrition. Hamas has shot off hundreds of rockets (including one that landed a few kilometers from me up north in Zichron Yaakov while I had lunch there yesterday) without causing a single injury. Iron Dome has worked brilliantly. Traffic was a bit lighter than normal last night, but there wasn’t a free table at any of

STARKE – Florida prison officials today executed a man convicted of the 1994 rape and slaying of an 11-year-old girl. It was the state’s sixth execution this year. Eddie Wayne Davis was executed by injection at Florida State Prison at 6:43 p.m. Davis declined to say any final words before his sentence was carried out. Executioners put the IV needle into Davis’ left arm around 6:30 p.m. Davis began muttering to himself after the process began, but witnesses in the viewing area couldn’t hear what he was saying because the speakers had been turned off. Davis’ chest heaved up and
