Catholic League head calls for
Catholic boycott of beer

Catholic League president Bill Donohue is blasting beer companies that pulled their support for the St. Patrick´s Day parades this year. Donohue Mondaycalled for Catholics to boycott the companies behind Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams for dropping their sponsorship of the parades in New York City and Boston over the refusal of organizers to allow gays and lesbians from marching under a banner. In an email, Donohue blamed the "bullying" against the parade on its "Catholic element." "I have had my last Guinness and Sam Adams. Heineken was always slop, so there is no sacrifice there," Donohue wrote. "I urge

What´s a beer substitute for Guinness? I get some occasionally for other family when they visit. We´re not connoisseurs, so close counts. Any suggestions?

Dear beer companies, I don´t drink beer anyway, so any threat I make to boycott you is as empty as any beer mug in my house...if I had any beer mugs in my house. But I was wondering how many gays and transgender people are there out there that even drink beer. Are you catering to a few who may or may not even be beer drinkers at the cost of the many non-gay people who do? Is that really good business acumen? Does Chick-fil-a ring a bell? Don´t you think that bowing to the threats of the few might cost you the good will of the many?

As Donohue correctly points out, Gays, Lesbians, and all the rest of the self defined alphabet people are not banned from marching in the parade. They just can´t march under a banner that celebrates behavior that is considered immoral and inappropriate to the vast majority of Irish Catholics. They don´t want equal treatment, they want special treatment. The parade is about being Irish, not being Gay. We don´t care what they do in the privacy of their own homes. We don´t want it to be rammed down our throats. I, for one, think its sick to define yourself solely by your sexuality. Heterosexuals don´t!

Although as noted, Murphys Stout is excellent. Heineken sold in the Netherlands is great stuff; the Hiney sold here in the US blows chunks [and causes one to do so as well].

FTA: “A spokeswoman at Heineken did not comment on Donohue´s boycott call but defended the company´s sponsorship decision. "We believe in equality for all people," she said.”

Does that equality encompass Catholics who are faithful to the teachings of their Church? Apparently not. The parade is in honor of a Catholic saint. The organizers made clear homosexuals and lesbians could march in the parade as people, not representatives of a political agenda intent on embarrassing and harassing Catholics.

Would the LGBT be accommodating to a Catholic group wanting to march in the S.F. Gay Pride Parade with signs and banners calling homosexuals and lesbians to repent from their immoral sexual activities? Would they still believe in “equality for all people” then?

"Black Velvet" - half Guinness, half champagne. But Dad always said "Never mix grape and grain," so I stayed away from it.

Mr A used to make his own pale ale and liked India pale ale (IPA) best. He called his brand Nasal Radiator because when you´ve downed enough it´s impossible to say naval aviator.

Now Mr A has inherited gout and rarely touches alcohol, poor auld lad. When he does have a wee sip, it´s Trader José Light, sometimes TJ´s Dark. But if you´re really into Oatmeal stout (like Guinness), TJ´s has Stockyard Oatmeal Stout and you might try Black Toad Dark Ale too--and lots more brands of dark and light beer at very reasonable prices. Of course, you shouldn´t pass up the Three-Buck Chuck wine, either.

Mackeson Stout - Murphy´s Stout will substitute for all but the most particular of palates.

Heineken´s problem in the US is that they export it in green bottles - and it gets hop flash, better known as skunky Heineken.

Since Sam Adams dropped sponsorship of the Boston parade, perhaps a bit of a beer party might find some floating in the harbor.

John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

The headline in the Washington Post on June 4 was clear: Rove-backed American Crossroads won’t get involved in Cochran runoff Said the Post story the day after Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel had defeated six-term Mississippi GOP Senator Thad Cochran in the first round of the state’s GOP primary: American Crossroads, a GOP establishment organization, has decided to shift its political focus almost entirely to the general election and will not be spending money in the likely runoff election to decide the Mississippi Senate nomination that was virtually deadlocked after Tuesday night. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
