Proposed budget will reportedly
shrink Army to pre-WWII numbers

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will reportedly propose a Pentagon budget that will shrink the U.S. Army to its smallest number since 1940 and eliminate an entire class of Air Force attack jets. The New York Times reported late Sunday that Hagel´s proposal, which will be released to lawmakers and the public on Monday, will call for a reduction in size of the military that will leave it capable of waging war, but unable to carry out protracted occupations of foreign territory, as in Afghanistan and Iraq. Under Hagel´s plan, the number of troops in the Army will drop to between

The smaller the military under this administration the better. I am glad to see a reduction that prevents prolonged occupations since the ROE´s get our troops killed for no good reason.

And finally we see the real reason that scum-Hagel was put in this position.

To gut the military under RINO leadership without the dem fingerprint.

Cutting the Military while at the same time increasing and arming Homeland Security. At the risk of being called a tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist, its kind of like what Hitler did with the SA after becoming Chancellor of Germany.

I suspect that cutting the Military is a prelude to some sort of political coupe.

Now if that sounds like a conspiracy theory, it is! I don´t think we can trust this President any more than any other enemy of the United States.

He has treated the Military with contempt as far back as his declaration that the Military should buy their own health insurance, as they knew what they were getting into when they joined.

No President in our history has treated the Military with such contempt and now with Hagel and Kerry in place he actually has a team.

After a proper military campaign there should be no need to occupy the territory if you don´t want to claim it as your own.
It makes your goal much simpler anyway.

Hitler didn´t need to reduce the strength of the German army; by terms of the Versailles Treaty it had been reduced to 100,000. At its peak the SA numbered in the millions. But I definitely see a parallel. Hitler, however, broke the SA in favor of the army, realizing he needed them for his future conquests.

Our army is not well suited to suppressing political dissent. But the tanks are very impressive and intimidating.

Police, secret and uniformed, work much better for deaing with political and media dissent.

Therefore don´t expect cuts at the many DOJ agencies or DHS or in many of the activities of the CIA or NSA.

Drastically reducing the army will give O a chance to retain only the right sort of soldiers. The ones who will follow any order.

The liberal Democrats will always move to reduce the military and defense contractors that they perceive as being a Republican leaning constituency groups and direct any money saved to liberal Democrat leaning constituency groups like education (teachers) and social welfare services.

Before the direct US involvement in the Second World War there was a period of a year or so that the US Army could be built up somewhat, but since things move along a lot more quickly today, in the future the USA will have to fight with the army that it has and there will be little time for a big build up beforehand.

Hillary Clinton may well be the most "known" politician in the world. She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been on the national stage for more than two decades -- traveling from Arkansas to the White House to the Senate to the 2008 campaign trail and finally to the State Department. During that time, every look and utterance from Hillary has been examined, then examined again, then analyzed, then overanalyzed. That´s why this series of photos -- shot by LIFE magazine in 1969 as part of a feature on outstanding college students -- is so fascinating. It captures
