Video: Protesters Take Over
The Guggenheim To Protest
Cruel Labor Practices

Gothamist, by Nick Pinto

Original Article

As hundreds of tourists and art lovers enjoyed the Guggenheim´s evening of free admission last night, scores of activists briefly took control of the museum, blaring a bugle, dropping banners from the spiral balconies, and raining leaflets on visitors. The activists, affiliates of the Gulf Labor group, were calling attention to the construction of a new Guggenheim branch on the artificial Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. The emirate is pouring money into a massive project to bring western cultural institutions to the island, including the Louvre, and the controversial New York University branch.

Another "peaceful" protest by the left wing.

They should have asked the TEA people to attend. You know, those extreme, violent, right-wing radicals. The place would have been spotless after the party.

In a new study, researchers found an increased risk of multiple sclerosis (MS) among women who have taken oral contraceptives. However, the findings do not mean women should stop using birth control, the researchers say. Utilizing membership data from Kaiser Permanente Southern California, researchers analyzed the health records of 305 women aged 14 to 48 who were diagnosed with MS or its precursor, clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), between 2008 and 2011. They looked at the women’s birth control use up to three years prior to the onset of MS symptoms. Overall, researchers found a 30 percent increased risk of developing

A man who essentially came back to life after his heart stopped for nearly 45 minutes is now telling the story of his astounding near-death experience. According to FOX 4’s sister station, FOX 8 in Cleveland, Brian Miller suffered a massive heart attack and seemed fine until the next day when he began experiencing Ventricular Fibrillation, which is a usually deadly fluttering pattern of the heart where blood is no longer being pumped through the body. Without treatment, the condition can kill a person in just a few minutes. After about 45 minutes of Miller being without a heart-rate, pulse,

So many changes to the health

After President Barack Obama bowed to critics in November and allowed people with canceled health insurance policies to keep their coverage for another year, the White House quickly hit the spin cycle. In a telephone briefing with reporters that same day, senior administration officials said their “enforcement discretion” allowed them to tweak the Affordable Care Act to ensure that it would be implemented with minimal disruption. Previous administrations had done the same thing with complicated new laws, they said, and the slow-motion rollout of the sprawling health care law was sure to encounter more problems

There’s a new exorcist in town. Four decades after the profession gained popular prominence in the gory horror flick “The Exorcist,” the Catholic Church is training a new legion of demon-fighting priests. The Rev. David Fleming of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale is one of 50 U.S. priests recently chosen to train in the rite of exorcism. Fleming was named the official exorcist of the Diocese of Des Moines. It is the church’s first effort in the United States to coordinate a “comprehensive and systematic formation process for this particular ministry,” Fleming told the Catholic Mirror, Des Moines’

Austin, Texas, is supposed to be weird. It is not supposed to be a police state. But take a look at this video, taken downtown near the University of Texas campus and posted Thursday. In the video, a pair of police officers can be seen standing over a woman who is sitting on the sidewalk. She speaks to the videographer across the street, telling him that she hasn’t done anything wrong. The officers cuff her and lead her to their squad car to take her to the police station. At that point, she begins to scream at full volume that

This unusual and unofficial video of Pope Francis discussing Christian unity (and speaking English) was recorded on an iPhone for the Kenneth Copeland Ministries, a group of Pentecostals meeting in the United States. In the video, which was posted on YouTube and not officially released by the Vatican, Pope Francis discusses the historical divisions between Christians and expresses hope that all men and women of faith would be able to move forward.

Administrators at a hotel run by Iowa State University have given the boot to Bibles in their guest rooms after protest from a religious separatist group. The push to remove the books began when a guest at the Hotel Memorial Union complained to Freedom From Religion Foundation about the "unwelcome religious propaganda in the bedside table," according to a local NBC News affiliate. The foundation, a nonprofit which advocates the separation of church and state, said the hotel is part of the Iowa public university system and, as such, cannot legally place the Bibles in the room.

FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. It was a world in which “the tide of war is receding” and the United States could, without much risk, radically reduce the size of its armed forces. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he

But Apple chief executive Tim Cook has shocked some in the US with an impassioned attack on the single-minded pursuit of profit – and a direct appeal to climate-change deniers not to buy shares in his firm. Eyewitnesses said Cook, who succeeded Steve Jobs as boss of the technology giant in 2011, was visibly angry as he took on a group of right-wing investors during a question-and-answer session at a shareholders’ meeting.

The crisis in Ukraine has brought out a fresh round of critics of President Obama´s foreign policy who see a pattern emerging: the president tries to assert his authority and direct events on the world stage with empty threats, which inevitably have no follow through. With each instance, U.S. power grows weaker as foreign powers view Mr. Obama as the president who cried wolf. The latest case: Mr. Obama´s public warning to Russia to stay out of Ukraine was followed by an invasion just days later. It´s just the latest failure, say critics who point to Syria as an example.

WASHINGTON—Police arrested hundreds of people who strapped themselves to the White House fence on Sunday to protest the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. The protesters were mostly college students who participated in a peaceful march that began at Georgetown University and ended outside the White House. They chanted "climate justice now" and carried signs with slogans such as "don´t tarnish the earth" in an effort to persuade President Barack Obama to reject the pipeline. They say it will worsen global warming. Protesters were passionate but quite orderly. Police were waiting for them with buses and vans to speed the process.

Rubio explained that “many of my supporters maybe disagreed with me on immigration — and disagreed strongly — but they understand that I’ve been involved in other issues that are important for the country.” The concern, though, is not lack of involvement by Rubio on the right
