A senior U.S. law enforcement official said Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was taken alive overnight in the beach resort town. Bubblegum machine (aka John Q. Law) done hit the jackpot. El Chapo is every bit the evil eminence that Pablo Escobar was, and has been responsible for several times as many murders as Escobar. He´s been the ultimate HVT for Mexican authorities and the DEA. If he´s unable to find another friendly laundry truck out of prison, others will take his place. Loz Zetas have won a minor victory by having Guzman taken off the street, but ultimately they face the same fate.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (AP) – Tony Stewart told anyone who would listen why he continued racing anywhere, anytime, regardless of purse or crowd or car. Even after he flipped five times last week, Stewart was quick to offer a stout defense for his short-track weeknight racing while some questioned if his extracurricular racing was putting his championship chances in NASCAR at risk. Well, his championship chances are officially over for this season. The three-time NASCAR champion broke his right leg Monday night at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa

Which United States president will go down in history as the greatest humanitarian to have served in the office? The Republican Herbert Hoover is often known as the "Great Humanitarian" for his work administering famine relief in post-World War I Europe (and Bolshevik Russia) in the 1920s — but he did all that before he actually became president. Others might make the case for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Democrat who succeeded Hoover in the White House, whose New Deal initiatives relieved poverty and sickness on a grand scale within the United States.

There was an 1854 Lefaucheux pinfire pistol carbine on display, as well as an 1876 .22-caliber derringer in a glass box. But neither was for sale. It wouldn´t have mattered if they were. The gun enthusiasts who showed up in Rosemont on Friday for what was billed as the first-ever Chicagoland Gun Show didn´t seem interested in gawking at antique pistols. Some wanted to buy high-powered rifles, semi-automatic handguns and high-capacity magazines. But there wasn´t a single gun dealer at the show, only a Chicago collector who said he was there to show off his collection.

Springfield — Citing inaction on pensions, a prominent Wall Street bond-rating agency downgraded Illinois’ bond rating Friday, making the state the nation’s worst credit risk. The move by Standard & Poor’s to rate Illinois’ bonds at A- with a negative outlook comes as the state is preparing to go out on the market Wednesday with a $500 million bond issue. With the new lowered rating, Illinois eclipsed California as the least creditworthy state in the country in Standard & Poor’s eyes and could face higher borrowing costs. “We assessed what the pension fund status is,

Caterpillar Inc.’s stock was downgraded to “Neutral” from “Overweight” by JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst Ann Duignan Monday. Duignan, who had rated Peoria-based Caterpillar “overweight” since April 2009, cited pressures on the sector to reduce costs and the potential negative impact on the U.S. coal and energy sectors following the re-election of President Barack Obama in downgrading the stock. Mining remains “pressured as companies continue to assess their investment plans for the longer term, and cuts are becoming more broad-based,” Duignan said in a research note.

Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. Students at three Dearborn elementary schools received the flyers. A large number of Muslim students attend the schools. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."
