Cruz Control
Politico Magazine, by Erica Grieder

The last time I interviewed Ted Cruz, the freshman senator from Texas, was in October, about a week after the end of the federal government shutdown. (snip) Just last week, Cruz picked another fight with his own caucus. Although Democrats control the Senate, he announced, they would have to convince at least five Republicans to join them in supporting a bill to raise the debt ceiling or else he would delay the bill by filibustering. In doing so, he raised the ire of colleagues like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who was forced to vote to forestall the filibuster—and might

Grieder arrives at much the same conclusion as Thomas Sowell and Mona Charen, that Senator Cruz´s tactics are inexplicable.

Politico, the go to news source for those inside Washington. Cruz, however, is a man for all seasons.

Good link, #2. And from THIS article a quote by Cruz: “If you never lose any fight, then you’re not taking on anything of consequence or anything difficult,”. Reagan was willing to fight for principles, no matter the odds, or potential outcome. Remember his drawing the line at the air traffic controllers? THAT´S leadership, pure and simple. Not what you see in the current panty-waist GOP House and Senate leadership.

#1 et al,: I was prompted to post this article because of the way it was presented in RCP:

"Ted Cruz Keeps Picking Fights With His Own Party"

So much for "inexplicable tactics"! Cruz is PURPOSELY doing what sentient voters of both parties long for -- breaking out of party lockstep in the interest of OUR country. [And don´t think that Independents don´t notice (and applaud) this.]

At the brutal Senate luncheon where his fellow Republicans jawboned him into not aiding conservative primary candidates, it looked like they had effectively neutered Ted. Yeah, right!

Forcing his risk averse colleagues to show their true (blue) colors surely helps Conservative challengers.

Before conservative policy wonks can win any policy victories, they’ll need to overhaul the Republican Party. For an idea of what that might look like and the challenges any transformation will entail, they should look to one of the party’s wonkiest politicians, Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal. Last week, as President Obama touted the 7.1 million private plan sign-ups in Obamacare’s first open enrollment period, Jindal gave the world a glimpse at what the outlines of a Republican alternative might look like. Not only would the plan repeal Obamacare; it would, among other things, overhaul the tax code to remove
